PB hotel design editorial

From the air, Emboodhu Finolhu presents one of the Indian Ocean's most recognisable silhouettes — a slender, palm-fringed atoll in South Malé Atoll with two sweeping arms of overwater villas curving into the lagoon like the flukes of an anchor dropped into turquoise shallows. Taj Exotica Resort and Spa Maldives, which established itself on this private island in 2003, spreads across 56 hectares with 64 villas, giving it one of the lowest density footprints of any resort in the archipelago — a statistic that shapes everything about the experience. The interiors draw on a relaxed colonial tropicalism: white-painted tongue-and-groove cathedral ceilings, dark-stained timber door frames, and upholstered headboards in warm cream linen anchored by jewel-toned accent cushions in teal and amber. Sliding glass walls dissolve the boundary between bedroom and overwater deck, where teak planking extends above water so clear the coral is visible beneath your feet. The resort's signature overwater restaurant, Latitude, captures the property's broader design sensibility most vividly — a soaring thatched pavilion with exposed dark timber trusses overhead, a trio of woven-shade chandeliers descending over crisp-linen tables, and a cut-out floor panel revealing the lagoon below. Wicker dining chairs and rope balustrades keep the atmosphere closer to a well-appointed yacht club than a formal dining room, a register the Taj Group has maintained with consistent conviction across the property's two decades.

I would like to highlight few names like our chef Ashis, our host Ahmed and Prashana one of the staffs in 24 degrees restaurant - they all are just exceptional. Hope see you all very soon. Cheers! Last but not the least, a special thanks to Asish for making a special menu for us during our stay in this masterpiece property."

"Our stay at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa was honestly one of the best experiences my family and I have ever had. The property is absolutely beautiful and has such a peaceful feeling to it. You can tell it’s one of the older properties in the Maldives, but that’s honestly what makes it feel so special and full of charm. One of my favorite things was the view from our room. Every day we would spot different fish swimming around, stingrays, manta rays, tiger fish, and so many other beautiful species. It genuinely felt unreal at times. But more than the property itself, what made this trip unforgettable was the hospitality. A special mention as well to Mr. Ali, who welcomed us at the airport on arrival and also personally assisted us during departure. He explained the history of the Maldives so beautifully to us and told us so much about the islands, resorts, and how everything works there, which made the experience even more interesting and memorable. From helping us with our bags to making sure we safely reached the resort by speedboat, he handled everything so smoothly. During departure too, he stayed with us till check-in and made sure we reached the gates comfortably and without any hassle. A huge thank you to Mr. Aalif, who took care of us throughout the trip. He was basically our go-to person for everything. From helping us when we first arrived to organizing activities and answering every little question we had, he was always there and always so kind and helpful. One thing that really stayed with me was that during check-in, the resort had kept a complimentary fruit platter in our room and there was one fruit I really liked. A day later I messaged him saying asking if I could have more and Mr. Aalif actually made sure it was sent to my room again. It may sound like a small thing, but gestures like that really make you feel cared for. And now coming to the food — I genuinely don’t think I have enough words for how good it was. If nothing else, I would honestly visit Taj Exotica again just for the food. Chef Ashish was incredible. During our first meal, he spent time talking to us about our taste preferences and after that he personally made a few dishes for us that were genuinely some of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Since I’m sugar-free, he along with Chef Shubham and Chef Sana also made special desserts for me, including panna cotta, mango cream kunafa jars, and mango sorbet. And honestly, not once did they feel sugar-free. Everything tasted amazing. I also have to specially mention one coriander chicken tikka starter Chef Ashish made for us. I’ve tried chicken starters in so many places around the world, but this one was genuinely unforgettable. Apart from the food, Chef Ashish himself was such a warm and lovely person to speak to. We had conversations about food, hospitality, and even my future plans in baking back home, and he was incredibly kind and encouraging. I even told my family that one day when I open my own hotel or restaurant, I might just have to come back to Taj and steal Chef Ashish because his food and the way he treats guests are honestly on another level. Thank you to the entire Taj Exotica team, the chefs, reception staff, and everyone working behind the scenes for making this trip so memorable for us. This place genuinely felt like home."

"Our honeymoon at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa was nothing short of magical. From the breathtaking turquoise views and stunning villas to the peaceful island vibe, every moment felt special and unforgettable. The hospitality truly made the experience even more beautiful. A special thank you to Ahmad, our host, for taking such great care of us throughout the stay and making everything so smooth and memorable. Special mention as well to Chef Ashish for the amazing food and warm hospitality, and to Naushad for being incredibly kind and helpful during our trip. We made the most beautiful honeymoon memories here and had so much fun together. The sunsets, ocean views, and overall experience were absolutely dreamy. Can’t wait to come back again someday 💙"
