PB hotel design editorial

Facing the gardens of San Anton Palace, one of Malta's most storied royal residences, the Corinthia Palace has always drawn its identity from this proximity to power and greenery rather than from any coastal drama. The original villa structure — its colonnaded entrance portico, balustraded terraces, and warm Maltese globigerina limestone facade articulating a confident late-colonial classicism — was converted into a hotel in 1968, making it one of the island's earliest purpose-converted luxury properties and the founding asset of the Corinthia Group, which would go on to build a significant international portfolio from this single San Anton address. The interiors across the hotel's 147 rooms pursue a register of quiet Mediterranean classicism: oak-panelled headboards paired with honey-gold velvet throws and botanical-patterned carpeting in grey and cream, floor-to-ceiling glazed doors opening onto balustraded balconies that overlook the mature gardens below. The pool terrace, framed by clipped topiary spheres, columned pergolas draped in creeping fig, and mature Aleppo pines, carries more design conviction than most of the interior spaces — a garden room in the truest sense. The restaurant interior, refreshed with large hammered copper pendant lights, whitewashed timber-beamed ceilings, curved banquette seating in pale linen, and terrazzo surfaces, brings a lighter contemporary touch that sits in productive contrast to the limestone gravitas of the building surrounding it.

"A last minute search on the internet and we found ourselves on a plane, heading for the Corinthia Palace Hotel in Malta. No real idea of what was in store for us but we certainly were not disappointed. Greeted on arrival by the Hotel Manager who gave us a good introduction to the hotel and the surrounding area. In the hotel, our room was spacious, bed was huge and everything spotless and very neat. The reception/ lobby corridors, stairs, bars, restaurants, spa and pool area were also spotless, with marble floors, walls, steps and columns giving a real quality feel about the hotel. These physical assets were good but better still were the staff, all very courteous, polite and willing to help to provide an excellent service. Food and service in the bars and restaurants were very good, particularly the breakfasts which set you up well for the rest of the day. Externally the hotel grounds were neat and tidy with plenty of seating and numerous water features to the front. Sadly to the rear, the outdoor pools were not yet ready for use which is understandable for early March, but the internal pool was fine. The hotel location is fairly central to the island. A free shuttle bus from the hotel is available to Valetta and local buses to various places around the island are plentiful. So overall, we found a gem of a hotel on a very interesting island and had an unexpectedly excellent holiday."

"This hotel is absolutely stunning the staff all work so hard they are professional, attentive, friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. As soon as you enter the reception area with it's huge central floral decoration, there is an atmosphere of calm luxury. Our room was very comfortable, very quiet with a huge comfy bed. Breakfast was wonderful with so much choice. The gardens and outside pool area are beautiful, we didn't use the spa but it looked lovely. The hotel is in a quiet area which was perfect for us, the Palace gardens are right opposite and well worth a peaceful stroll around. There are a few bars and restaurants scattered around within walking distance. Bus stops are nearby and we used the free hotel shuttle into Valletta too. While in Mdina I sprained my ankle and the Hotel Operations Manager showed genuine concern and the following day there was a card in our room saying they were sorry to hear I had sprained my ankle and asking if there was anything they could do to make me more comfortable, a bottle of Prosecco on ice and some small cakes, amazing customer service! This hotel is more than worthy of it's five stars ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ thank you so much for our wonderful stay."

"Absolutely the best place to stay in Malta. Beautiful building and outdoor space with lush gardens. Excellent spa facilities. We stayed for a week and ate in the restaurants for 4 nights as the food so very good and reliable price. We also had dinner in the Michelin star restaurant which was enough experience to be had. The overall staff are so friendly and attentive, the best we have had. The breakfast is outstanding and a must. The bedrooms and bathrooms are slightly outdated but you can over look this for the general vibe of the hotel. Overall, we will be back for sure."
