PB hotel design editorial

Mauritius's east coast has been reshaping the definition of Indian Ocean resort design since Le Saint Géran first opened in 1975, establishing the template that dozens of subsequent properties across the Maldives and Seychelles would imitate without quite matching. One&Only Le Saint Géran sits on its own private peninsula at Pointe de Flacq, a geographic privilege that gives the property two distinct shorelines — calm lagoon water on one side, open ocean on the other — and that shapes every design decision made across its 163 suites and villas. The low-rise white-rendered pavilions, their generous covered terraces framed by warm timber detailing, are arranged to dissolve the boundary between groomed lawn and powdery beach, a sequence visible in the images where thatched beach parasols punctuate a palm-lined foreshore that fades directly into the turquoise of the lagoon. Interiors after the One&Only rebranding carry a calm coastal register: tray ceilings with brushed-bronze pendant lights, deep indigo and slate blue patterned rugs over pale limestone floors, upholstered headboards in muted grey-green panels, and open-fronted oak bar cabinets that give standard rooms a quietly residential feeling. Against these composed spaces, the beachside restaurant asserts a dramatically different mood — a high thatched roof structure of lashed bamboo and rope-wrapped columns, suspended woven fish forms turning the ceiling into an artisan installation, the whole dining room open to the lagoon at sunset. The contrast between the two registers, restrained and theatrical, is what keeps the property from feeling like a single idea stretched too thin.

"Wow, what an amazing hotel! We have stayed in many places and this hotel was extra special for us! The staff are trained so well, really trying to get to know us and what we liked! There was not an area in the hotel that you wouldn’t be impressed by, utterly wonderful! Every restaurant has its own speciality and wow their food is absolutely superb! Their evening buffets were the best we have experienced- changing every night with different themes. Really exquisite! Tapasake restaurant was such a special treat one evening over the lagoon. We absolutely loved a sunset drink each evening in the bar on the beachfront, with a wonderful live DJ! Our rooms were spotless, had great views of the lagoon and extremely comfortable beds! The rain shower in the bathroom was fabulous too! The best part of this hotel was the small things! If you just sit back, relax and observe…. You quickly notice so many small quirks and final touches around the hotel that made our stay extra special. I won’t spoil it for future guests, but I recommend you go, relax and enjoy your time at the One & Only Saint Geran! We stayed as a family with 2 teenager boys and all of us had a super time. Water sports, padel, gym, teen club area, bicycles to ride, pools, beach, snorkelling, spa, sound bath session . All were truly fantastic! I don’t think I have ever reviewed a hotel without any points for improvement, but wow….this is that review! Although the perhaps Charlotte (or Charl?!) the gorgeous crane bird needs a mate?!"

"This Easter holiday we returned to One&Only Le Saint Géran as a family of five, and once again it exceeded even our very high expectations. This stay also coincided with several important family milestones, and the way the resort acknowledged and celebrated them was nothing short of outstanding. The setting is, of course, spectacular. The location is breathtaking, immaculate and serene, with that unmistakable Mauritius beauty at every turn. The food across the resort is exceptional – consistently world‑class in both quality and variety, with something to delight every member of the family, whether casual beachfront dining or more refined evening experiences. However, what truly sets One&Only Le Saint Géran apart from its competitors is the customer service and extraordinary attention to detail. From the moment we arrived, it genuinely felt like returning home to family rather than checking into a hotel. Every single person we encountered – without exception – was warm, attentive, and sincerely invested in making our stay perfect. Nothing felt scripted or transactional; the care was authentic, thoughtful and personal. The team’s ability to remember returning guests, anticipate needs, and quietly go above and beyond is what makes this resort so special. Luxurious surroundings and great food can be found elsewhere, but this level of heartfelt service cannot. It transforms a holiday into something truly memorable. If you are looking for a luxury resort in a stunning setting, with quite simply the best customer service on the planet, this is the place. We left already looking forward to our next return. With particular thanks to: Roman and the management team, Dimitri, Iqbal, Graziano, Giovani, Michael and Olivier. All of the team at Le Point including Eric, Yogesh, Zumar, Ritesh and Asshbin and Kumal (housekeeping). The team at Riva including Umah and Ryan and the team at La Terrasse including Shevin, Anu, Nicole and Steve the Chef for the amazing Market to table experience. Thanks also to our host Ishwar, Laetitia, Joyce and a special thank you to Hrithik who goes above and beyond every time and is one of the sweetest human beings on the planet. The Berry's"

"Fantastic experience ; excellent staff that have loyally been at the hotel for many years and have deep experience of what true luxury service looks like. In particular, our butler Basel, our cabana attendant Eric and restaurant manager Alex made our stay genuinely first class - and we have very high standards."
