PB hotel design editorial

Bahia Chileno is one of the few protected coves along the Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, its calm turquoise water flanked by desert scrub and volcanic rock — a setting that demanded architecture with enough restraint to avoid overwhelming what drew people here in the first place. Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection and opened in 2017, was designed with low-rise terraced pavilions that step down toward the beach in a rhythm calibrated to the slope of the hillside. The massing, visible in the images, combines cantilevered concrete overhangs, horizontal timber louvers in what appears to be teak or a comparable hardwood, and cladding in warm travertine-toned stone — a material palette that borrows from Baja's desert geology without resorting to folkloric pastiche. Inside, the interiors move between two registers. The upper-category suites feature walnut-toned tongue-and-groove ceiling panels, full-width glazed walls that dissolve the boundary between bedroom and terrace, and stone-clad outdoor soaking tubs oriented directly toward the Sea of Cortez — the whole arrangement feeling closer to a well-appointed private residence than a resort room. Standard accommodation takes a warmer, earthier approach: travertine-tiled floors, leather-upholstered headboards in chocolate brown, woven-frame mirrors, and blue zellige-tiled bathrooms that introduce a subtle regional note. The infinity pool deck, lined with draped white cabanas and teak-framed loungers, extends the property's consistent grammar of pale stone, warm wood, and open sky.

About

Nestled along a protected cove, the most desirable beach in Los Cabos has long been known for its tranquil, swimmable waters and pristine coral reefs, where a short venture out to sea unveils a hidden underwater world of tropical fish and sea turtles. Chileno Bay was created with a distinct vision to bring a contemporary take on the classic Baja escape with an airy, open aesthetic that blurs the line between indoor and outdoor with private terraces in each guest room.

"Chileno Bay Resort & Spa was phenomenal. The staff throughout the resort were friendly, accommodating, attentive, and genuinely helpful, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. The dining was excellent across the board — from the restaurants to the pool service and the private beach event. There was a wonderful variety of options, and the fish in particular was incredibly fresh and flavorful. My accommodation was extremely comfortable, and I loved the thoughtful layout of the room. The oversized doors opening to the closet area, the spacious living area with the sofa bed, and the stunning bathrooms with their beautiful tilework all made the suite feel luxurious and inviting. The property itself is beautifully maintained, with gorgeous pools overlooking the sea and expansive pool areas that comfortably accommodate guests without ever feeling crowded. The swimmable beach is a huge highlight, and the spa was absolutely beautiful with exceptional masseuses. One of the highlights of the stay was the sunrise paddleboarding experience with our guide, Emilio, who was phenomenal. Overall, Chileno Bay is a stunning, well-located resort with exceptional service, outstanding dining, beautiful accommodations, and wonderful experiences throughout. I would highly recommend it."

"Service and food were exceptional. The partial ocean view room was a comfortable size, large walk-in closet with plenty of storage and a huge bathroom and indoor as well as outdoor shower."

"The pool service left much to be desired. Not sure if they were understaffed, but it did not compare to the last two times we have vacationed at Chileno Bay. We did have wonderful experiences at Comal, Yaya, and TnT. We also loved the H2O cave for snorkeling and paddle boarding. Top notch."
