PB hotel design editorial

Where the Sea of Cortez meets a sheltered bay on the East Cape — far from the crowded marina strip of San José del Cabo — a low-slung constellation of sand-coloured pavilions announces a deliberate counter-argument to the region's older resort typology. Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas, which opened in 2019 as the anchor property of a 1,000-acre private residential community, was conceived by WATG with interiors by EDG Design, the palette and massing drawn from the desert and shoreline in equal measure. The architecture spreads horizontally across the beachfront in stacked two-storey volumes clad in warm concrete and local stone, flat overhanging rooflines creating deep shade in the manner of Mexican modernism, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains forming an improbable backdrop visible from the water. Inside the 96 rooms and suites, the material conversation continues with honed concrete floors, textured headboards in layered plaster and wood, and Berber-inflected flatweave rugs in cream and charcoal that anchor each room without competing with the floor-to-ceiling glazing framing the sea. Dark slate fireplaces — unexpected and quietly correct for desert evenings — anchor the living zones of the larger suites. The beach bar extends under a woven reed canopy, rope-wound lounge chairs and geometric-patterned cushions in indigo and terracotta arranged toward the shore, the whole atmosphere closer to a well-edited private compound than to any conventional resort formula.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Four Seasons. Pick up and drop off was secured through the Concierge and worked beautifully. I’d highly recommend booking through them knowing that this is taken care of. The property is about a 50 minute drive up to the East Cape. We booked a ATV waterfall hike through the Concierge with the adventure team. Normally I would book a water activity such as whale watching and so this trip was really different and we absolutely had a blast. "Hussey" his nick name was our private guide and arrived with our two seater ATV. My daughter had an absolute blast driving to the waterfall. He took care of absolutely everything brought towel towels, snacks, and really took great care of us in the absolute best Four Seasons Way. The driving age limit was 16. We saw wild donkeys, horses, and cows. The waterfall was absolutely spectacular and we hiked up to the pools above. Swimming here was really worth it, even though it was a little cold to begin with. This was such an outstanding tour they provide helmets and goggles. Just book it you wont make a mistake! We really enjoyed going to the spa, caught the water taxi over for coffee in the morning, which was really a fun experience. We love the fitness center and enjoyed drinks at Limon. The resort was not overly full and we loved our plunge pool room. We actually had dinner through room service one night, which I couldn’t recommend any more. Everything was delivered hot and crispy. Very much recommend this resort it felt very much like Punta Mita and is going to be developed into that I would say in the next 15 years. We loved having the use of the bicycles that were delivered from the front desk for our stay. Service and the friendliness of the staff was highly recommended. This Property totally lived up to the expectations of the four seasons in every way."

"We had a wonderful time at this resort. The whole place was beautiful, I especially loved my room and the landscaping. The spa facilities and the pool were so nice; the food was good; and the ocean was calm and easy to swim in. The gym was well appointed and tennis courts were available. In fact, the place had a private feel, nothing felt overcrowded or scarce. The staff could not have been nicer- they accommodated all our needs. They even had it noted that we were non drinkers, and pointed out the mocktails on the menu. What a nice place."

"New Four Seasons at Costa Palmas is a true gem for people looking for total relaxation, beautiful nature and long walks on prestige white sand beach. It is located on the shores of beautiful Sea of Cortez, away from busy Cabo. Service and food is exceptional! Perfect for romantic holiday and family vacation. Highly recommend restaurant Limon. It is incredible! Also if you wish to change a hairstyle or just experience world class cut - visit David at hair salon. He is an exceptional hairstylist, true master. What a surprise to have the best haircut in my life on beach vacation in remote Mexico!"

"As someone who visits Cabo several times a year for both work and pleasure, I've stayed at almost every luxury property on the tourist corridor. However, I never venture out to Costa Palmas - which I realize now was such a mistake! The drive is EASY! And the property - well worth it! I was so surprised - in a great way - by the rooms, the food, the spa. It's a true luxury resort - sprawling over a vast, amazingly swimmable beach (I took the best night swims in calm, warm water), SO many fantastic restaurants that it's impossible to get bored with the food even for a multi day stay, and a spa I could live in for a week (and I've been to many spas and used to grade them on practical exams to achieve Forbes 5 star ratings). The staff was gracious and well trained, the activity options are abundant, and the property is laid out in such a way that it never felt crowded. Highly recommend!"
