PB hotel design editorial

Mexico's first B-Corporation-certified hotel arrived at Puerto Los Cabos marina in 2012 with an identity built around creative process as much as hospitality. Hotel El Ganzo, designed by Pablo Sanchez-Navarro, is set against the working marina of San José del Cabo, its low whitewashed modernist volumes reading from the water as something between a Mediterranean village and a Baja art institution. The exterior's most arresting detail is a large-scale mural spread across the roofline — a signal of the artist-in-residence program that treats every wall, corridor, and surface as an evolving canvas. Beneath that, the building's 72 rooms and suites are finished in poured concrete floors and interiors assembled from recycled materials, giving the whole property an industrial warmth that feels genuinely earned. The rooms divide between two moods: some keep to a spare, coastal simplicity — pale linen, natural pine bed frames, large-format stone tile floors, balconies framing the marina and Sea of Cortez — while others carry vivid hand-painted murals sweeping across walls and ceilings, bathtubs set into timber surrounds bringing a studio-like intimacy to the space. The waterfront restaurant terrace uses woven-rope seating, reclaimed timber tables, and a reed-and-dark-timber pergola ceiling that dapples afternoon light across the deck. Up top, an infinity pool traces the full length of the roofline, the marina below and the Pacific horizon ahead. The underground recording studio, open to visiting musicians, completes El Ganzo's argument that a hotel can be a genuinely productive creative environment.

"We had a fabulous experience!! Great location. Super chill neighborhood but a quick uber ride from downtown. Couple of great neighborhood restaurants like spicy tuna and borracho marinero. The rooms were impeccable with daily housekeeping and they even bring milk and house baked cookies every night. Rooms were super well equipped. Food at the restaurant was delicious and they had live music several nights. Unique rooftop pool with a great view and bar. But what we enjoyed most is the exceptional service from the staff. From the front desk - Liz and Manuel, to the restaurant and service all around the hotel. A special shoutout to the wait staff Yosef, Jordan, Missy, Ysidro, Jhossi, Gustavo and a few others."

"This is what I shared with the hotel staff: “Thank you for your hospitality. Every single El Ganzo staff that we interacted with exceeded our expectations. They helped to make this one of the most memorable trips, ever! We kept hearing from our friends how much they enjoyed your excellent customer service. We had organized a multiple 50th birthday celebration for 25 friends, and we are so incredibly thrilled that we chose this boutique hotel. I had one experience in particular that I really enjoyed. One of the staff at the ground floor (that helped us with our luggage on the first day), saw that I was extremely overheated on Saturday after our photo shoot. He immediately ran to get me a cold refreshing wet towel! How incredibly sweet. He also asked how many guests we had (I told him 24) so that he could prepare some for next time. We never had such a hot day again, so it didn’t happen, but that initial experience stayed with me. He is to be commended! I wish I had gotten his name so I could share who he was. By the way, the food was EXCELLENT (although very expensive, but worth it!). Beautifully plated, and gorgeously presented. We also really enjoyed the option to order our own food for our group dinners and bill them to our own room. I also loved that there was an El Ganzo taco truck parked outside for a couple of days so that we could have the option of the same excellent tacos at a fraction of the price. Again, thank you again for everything. We hope to be back again someday soon!”"
