PB hotel design editorial

Carved into the volcanic hillside above the Sea of Cortez at El Ranchito, where the Baja peninsula narrows before its final drop toward Land's End, the architecture here takes its cues from the desert terrain rather than imposing upon it. Zadun, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, opened in 2018 across roughly 300 acres of protected land, its low-slung pavilions and villas stepping down the escarpment in a language of rough-cut local stone, dark steel screens, and rammed-earth tones that dissolve into the surrounding scrub and cardón cactus. The perforated tower visible at the resort's heart — a sculptural lantern of laser-cut metal — functions less as architecture than as a sundial, the Cortez light burning straight through it at dusk. The 115 suites and villas carry that material restraint indoors: travertine-look tile flooring, walnut-framed floor-to-ceiling pivot doors that fold entirely away to merge bedroom with terrace, and handwoven indigo textiles on beds and upholstered benches that reference the craft traditions of Oaxaca and the Mexican Pacific coast. Leather director's chairs and dark-stained wood seating groups furnish the terraces with the ease of a well-used private house rather than managed resort furniture. At the beach club, a palapa-style canopy of bundled reed shelters woven-rope lounge chairs and a concrete bar counter, the whole structure framed against the Pacific in a composition that feels as much fishing village as five-star reserve.

"We couldn't ask for a better family vacation. This is our 3rd year in a row of going to Zadun on spring break as it never dissapoints. The location, rooms, etc are stunning but like any 5 star resort its the people who make the difference. Butlers (Tosanis) Carlos and Andres go above and beyond to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Constantly checking in to offer assistance with anything. Outstanding in every way that you can ask for to make the most of your trip. This was our second time having Carlos as the hotel is great about matching you up with a Tosani from a previous stay. We hope to get matched up again next year. Pedro at Candil Bar is the best you could ask for. He remembered our kids names when we walked in, despite it being a year since our last visit. He was so nice and engaging with the kids throughout our time having a drink before dinner. Our son and Pedro bonded strongly over their love of Pokemon. Pedro was nice enough to lead me through an informative mezcal tasting as his knowledge of tequila and mezcal is vast. The Ambassdors of the Environment (Kids Club) staff do an incredible job as our kids were chomping at the bit to go to the club at 9am opening. And we had to pry them out of there after noon to come get lunch with us at the pool! Alejandra, Carmen, Linda, and Jair (spelling?) all were incredible and our kids were nearly in tears saying goodbye. Our ride to the airport to fly home was highlighted by Daniel, the self proclaimed best driver in Los Cabos. He was friendly and engaging and left us with many great ideas of places to visit on our next trip. The property is beyond gorgeous and the rooms have an excellent indoor/outdoor feel which is great when traveling with kids as it allows Mom and Dad to have a seperate space outside to hang out in while the kids wind down at night. Last but not least the location of the property stands out to us. We love the vibe and culture of downtown San Jose Del Cabo as it feels much more authentic vs Cabo San Lucas. Zadun is a short Uber from getting dinner on a cobblestone street or also an easy ride to Flora Farms."

"Fantastic 4 night getaway. The photos do not do justice to the magic that awaits you at Zadun. The rooms are spacious and kept immaculately clean. The staff are all so polite, considerate, welcoming and resourceful. The pool areas provide lots of chaise lounges and the area is well staffed. We ate at all 4 restaurants- and they were all very good in their own unique way. Humo was our favorite- food/service/atmosphere- unbeatable. Management was responsive and welcomed feedback- special kudos to Gerardo the guest experience manager and Wasem the hotel manager- they’re doing a great job. We saw at least. 10 whales/day - many moms w babe in tow and some fancy acrobatics 100 m from shore. The spa areas is a beautiful oasis- definitely worth visiting on a 2 hr pass at least once in your stay. We loved the fitness area - lots of new equipment and the 25m lap pool and used it daily. We also visited the ambassador center to learn about the flora/fauna/astronomy/origin of chocolate making. Be prepared to walk and the property is a little hilly. If you stay onsite- be prepared to pay minimum of $250 pp/day for meals- more if you enjoy alcohol. We spent our 4 days/night enjoying the property and we look forward to coming back. It was expensive and we felt it is worth every peso."

"The Ritz Carlton Zadun Reserve is a must visit!! I am a loyal RC client, The Zadun Reserve RC property is the most beautiful sanctuary I've ever visited. I went with my daughter Logan (23) and her soon to be Mother in Law, Gabi, who's also a close friend of mine as well; from Jan. 3-13th. As usual, the Ritz concierge sends a note asking about your stay, any preferences etc. I shared w/ RC Zadun; that my husband passed away in June 2025 unexpectedly from a heart attack, and that we had our wedding on the beach at the Ritz Carlton Turks & Caicos; and this ( Zadun, Cabos was going to be our next Ritz trip...) and I was going to be spreading his ashes in the ocean during my stay. I also told him on a happy note that my daughter Logan, was engaged and getting married to her 8th sweetheart in Aug. '26 so we were celebrating that!! We arrived to the RC Zadun having upgraded us to a Beautiful suite, which was so very kind, generous, and unexpected and SOO appreciated!! They had beautiful welcome snacks in a unique cabinet on the dining table, and many other beautiful touches. On the 3rd day of our stay; I impaled my rt heal on the beach ( not at the Ritz, rather the down the beach...) with a metal rod ( size of a pen ) but it got infected and our Butler / the RC staff got the Dr. on site to see me, he cleaned the wound, wrapped it, got me strong atibiotics and pain med, and specific instructions not to put weight on it or get it wet. The RC staff took AMAZING care of me, golf carting me and my daughter everywhere, checking in on me constantly to ensure I was comfortable. They, as usual, went above and beyond. I can't thank the Ritz Carlton Zadun Staff for the impeccable service and experience you provided to me, my daughter, and her future mother in law. and the Food and Service all around were Fantastic! Its my favorite Ritz I've ever stayed at.... they're all great, but this property and their curated staff stands out. Well done Ritz Carlton ~ Customer for Life!! Sincerely, Jill McElroy Hamburg"
