PB hotel design editorial

Where the Yucatán jungle meets the Caribbean at Playa Mujeres — a private peninsula north of Cancún largely shielded from the hotel-strip churn — Atelier Playa Mujeres makes a case that all-inclusive resort design need not default to institutional scale or synthetic cheerfulness. The property, which opened in 2019, spreads across roughly 600 metres of white-sand coastline, its main tower stepping down toward the water in a series of terrace-fronted floors whose clean white horizontals and deep overhangs draw more from contemporary Mexican residential architecture than from the blunt massing typical of Caribbean mega-resorts. The interior language shifts register depending on where you find yourself. Guest rooms carry exposed timber ceiling beams, polished dark slate floors, warm sapele or parota wood millwork, and jute rugs — a palette grounded in craft materials that keeps the Caribbean light from turning antiseptic. Platform beds sit low against the floor, and the proportions lean residential rather than transactional. The restaurants move in a different direction entirely: the main dining space photographed here deploys harlequin black-and-white marble flooring, fluted stone columns banded in brass, amber-lit coffered ceilings, and curved saddle-leather seating — an Art Deco-inflected richness that reads as deliberate evening counterpoint to the barefoot ease of the beach. Connecting everything is a long lagoon-style infinity pool that threads between palms toward the water, framed by the hotel's tiered facade on one side and the open sea on the other.

"If you’re on the fence about staying here, let us hear sign to book your statement. We take lots of vacations and I’ve never been more happy with a place that I spent my money at. You truly get so much for your cost of your stay and it is worth it ten fold! We absolutely loved everything about our stay including the service. Everyone there makes you feel so welcomed and catered too. Carlos with the pool towels, went above and beyond, not just once but every single day of our six night honeymoon. Ethan with the entertainment team also went above and beyond to include us in games and remembered our name from prior days, which made us feel great! The rooms were impeccable and the food was outstanding. You truly cannot beat the quality of food that you get there. Every staff member that you see greets you and makes you feel special. We are definitely going to be back and hopefully it with some friends!"

"What an amazing experience - the service is out of this world. I have Celiac and was able to eat safely and they took great care of me. I brought a card in Spanish explaining my allergy and they would take it to the chef/bartender and confirm what all could be made GF. Our butlers Rodolfo and Yareni were next level awesome!! So caring, thoughtful, and quick. I needed meds and Rodolfo was able to source them for us quickly. Yareni made a little birthday surprise for me as we were there for my 30th. I would recommend this place to anyone and when we go back we’ll be requesting Roldofo and Yareni as our butlers as they really set the experience apart."

"This was our first all inclusive and we probably set the bar too high for other resorts. We went with some friends who have been to various resorts in Cancun and we all agreed Atelier was top notch. The resort is an incredible spectical and the pictures are accurate online. The room was gorgeous. The ambience is unmatched. A few highlights that stood out to us. 1. The staff. Outside of a few staff members who were okay, 95% of the staff were absolutely special. Particular credit to Guadalupe at the Life and Vive Pool, Carlos at Mercado 19, and so many others. 2. The dining. The food was honestly better than expected. We ate at Mercado 19 for breakfast everyday and it was really quite good. We also did dinner at Mercado 19, Kopai, Takeshi and Los Abrazos. Would rate them in that order, with Mercado 19 being truly exceptional. All the waiting staff were phenomenal. 3. The spa. The spa experience was truly amazing. The atmosphere is unmatched. The hydrotherapy before our 80 minute couples massage was incredible. The massage was excellent. The did splurge for the mini facial which probably wasnt worth it. But everything else we did was truly worth the money. Would absolutely go back here in the future and would honestly be nervous going to another resort because Atelier set the bar so high."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Service from Julio at the Pool Bar! We had an amazing stay at Atelier Playa Mujeres, and we especially want to recognize Julio, our pool bar server, for taking such great care of us! Julio was incredibly attentive throughout our stay. He frequently checked on us to see if we needed drinks or wanted to order food, and he always did so with a friendly smile and wonderful attitude. He was never intrusive—just genuinely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time by the pool. His excellent service really stood out and added to an already fantastic vacation. Employees like Julio are what make a resort experience truly special. He is a wonderful asset to Atelier Playa Mujeres and deserves to be recognized for the exceptional care he gives his guests. Thank you, Julio, for taking such great care of us! We truly appreciated you and hope to see you again on our next visit! ❤️🌴🍹"
