PB hotel design editorial

Three thousand acres of protected Pacific coastline in Jalisco set the terms for everything that followed. Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, which opened in November 2022, was shaped by an unusually collaborative architectural vision — Victor Legorreta, Mauricio Rocha, and Mario Schjetnan of LegoRocha working alongside Uribe Krayer and Nodo Taller — and the result carries none of the generic resort vocabulary that might have colonized a site this dramatic. Instead, the 157-room property steps down the cliffside in staggered concrete volumes, their warm sand tones drawn from the landscape rather than imposed upon it. Lava rock walls, locally sourced stone, and custom concrete whose aggregate seems calibrated to disappear into the hillside give the massing the feeling of something geological rather than constructed. Inside, the interiors by Uribe Krayer and Estudio Esterlina translate that material restraint into warmth rather than austerity. Guest rooms are finished in dark tropical timber, woven cane headboard screens, and rattan seating whose curves echo the coastal vernacular without tipping into pastiche. The open-air dining pavilion, framed by sand-toned concrete columns, pulls the jungle-covered hills into every sightline, while infinity pools at multiple levels reinforce the property's essential argument: that a resort can be entirely of its place. Architectural Digest recognised it among its 2023 Great Design Hotel winners, a judgment the images make hard to argue with.

Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo Reviews

"The moment we stepped onto our terrace and saw the Pacific stretching endlessly before us, we knew this wasn’t going to be just another beach getaway — this was something extraordinary. Our three-night stay at Four Seasons Tamarindo truly flew by. We stayed in a Panoramic Ocean View Suite, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Waking up each morning to that sweeping ocean view was breathtaking. From our suite, we could see the beach below and even the immaculately maintained golf course in the distance — an incredible vantage point that made the setting feel both dramatic and serene. The suite felt private and expansive, thoughtfully designed to maximize the views at every turn. The gigantic lap pool was a highlight, and the outdoor rain shower overlooking the ocean elevated the entire experience — there is something unforgettable about showering with that kind of scenery. Service was exceptional, especially with our dedicated butler, who made everything seamless and personalized throughout our stay. Dining was equally memorable. Enjoying meals oceanfront with the waves crashing along the shoreline created such a powerful sense of place. We especially loved the cozy taco bar — relaxed yet delicious — and the breakfast buffet offered an impressive variety each morning. Next time, we are definitely making time to play the golf course — it looked pristine and beautifully integrated into the natural landscape. Four Seasons Tamarindo offers a rare combination of raw natural beauty, privacy, and polished service. We are already looking forward to returning"

"Wow! What a spectacular place. The architecture and the nature meet each other in perfect harmony. The natural setting of the reserve makes you feel like you’re in a different, personal world. The blend of scenery and design is unlike any other place on earth. SAL restaurant is divine. The rooms are spectacular, and represent the place you are in. There is so much to see- beaches, nature, animals (see whales while you eat breakfast!) there is no place like this in the world."

"The interior decor in this FS property is amazingly beautiful. Subtle colors and textures that perfectly blend with the jungle around it and the sea in front. Everything is selected with purpose creating a relaxing, peaceful environment. The staff is very welcoming following the tradition of Mexican hospitality. My gratitude to Paola, Luis, Ariana and everyone who took such good care of us. Honorable mention to Nacho’s where tacos are taken to the next level. Absolutely delicious!"
