PB hotel design editorial

Tucked behind a canopy of mature trees on a leafy street in Mexico City's Colonia Roma, a stuccoed early-twentieth-century villa carries the arched openings and symmetrical massing of the neighbourhood's Porfirian heritage while everything behind the facade moves decisively forward in time. Brick Hotel took over this two-storey structure and extended it with a contemporary rear volume, the contrast between the original white render and the new dark-framed glazing making the generational conversation visible rather than concealed. Ferns spill from the upper balustrade, string lights thread through the tree canopy overhead, and the Hela spa signage anchors one side of the entrance stair — all of it suggesting a property more interested in atmosphere than announcement. Inside, the interiors settle into a palette of charcoal grey walls, herringbone oak floors, and brass hardware that runs consistently from guestrooms to bar. Upholstered headboards in pale linen, leather-trimmed nightstands in warm oak, and pendant reading lights with polished metal shades furnish rooms that look outward through floor-to-ceiling louvred windows into the greenery beyond. The restaurant extends that dialogue with the exterior most directly — floor-to-ceiling glazing framed in black steel, a slatted timber ceiling filtering light, laser-cut metal screens dividing the dining room, and Tom Dixon-style cone pendants casting warm gold pools over marble-topped tables. At the bar, a veined marble counter anchored by brass disc pendants and antiqued mirror backsplash completes a vision of contemporary Mexican hospitality that draws quietly on its colonial bones without being constrained by them.

About

Mexico City’s rich heritage reveals itself in a vivid array of architecture, landmarks and lifestyles. The ancient allure of its pre-Hispanic temples and canals. The brilliance of colonial-era buildings like the Palacio Nacional, adorned with murals by Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Old-style cantinas and shops living elbow-to-elbow with cutting-edge museums, art galleries and restaurants showcasing the latest culinary techniques. Moments from Mexico City's dynamic, non-stop downtown, a neighborhood of relative tranquility features charming, ivy-draped homes, eclectic shopping and nightlife and traditional vendor carts serving-up inexpensive street food. This is Roma, where Old World enchantment is infused with fresh, contemporary energy. This is where the Brick Hotel Mexico City resides. A classic Belle Époque mansion built in the first decade of the 20th century, the Brick Hotel has been meticulously updated to reflect Roma’s seamless blend of the authentic and avant-garde. Our 17-room boutique hotel is intricately woven into the fabric of its surroundings, timeless yet modern, sophisticated yet livable, and chic yet familiar and inviting. It is a place designed to surprise and delight discerning explorers who appreciate that a deeper connection to the places they visit, is the key to a life well-traveled. "Hotel Brick is an intimate and welcome oasis in the heart of Mexico City! We enjoyed our stay as the staff, the hospitality, the dining experience were all wonderful. This botique hotel is immaculate, quiet, and private. We especially liked how close and easy it was to get around, the restaurants nearby and walkability, and mostly the wonderful staff there."

"My husband and I spent 5 nights at Brick hotel in late May. We stayed in room 302 which was a Rooftop Suite. We had a lovely 2-story room with a nice 2nd floor terrace (enclosed but you can see the the rooftop bar and trees) and we relaxed in the comfortable lounge chairs there each day. There was a very nice bathtub upstairs that we didn't use. The bathroom had nice amenities and the water pressure in the shower was great. The bed was very comfortable, but not sure if it was a Queen - it may have been a Full or Double. I really appreciated the glass water bottles being refreshed daily and the chocolate that was left for turndown (I took the one with pop rocks in it home to enjoy later!) Rooms were very quiet. On the first night there was a wedding being held and the concierge said that the music would be done at 10:00pm and I thought "No way - it's a wedding, they're going to party all night" - but sure enough, it was literally silent after 10:00pm. We had breakfast everyday at the restaurant in the hotel (which was complementary) and was AMAZING. The service was top notch and so kind. The fruit plate (served to each person) was incredible and made me wish I ate that for breakfast everyday at home - it was such a great, healthy way to start the day. After the first day, we split the breakfast main course for the other four days because the courses were HUGE. The chilaquiles was the highlight (because it was so decadent) but everything we had was great. I had an 80-min massage at the Spa (I believe her name was Griselda?) and it was incredible, perfect pressure, relaxing, lovely room, and fairly priced. I felt great for days afterward. I spent about 5 minutes in the private sauna before the message. They booked me same day which was awesome. I even left my necklace in the pocket of my robe and they were kind enough to search for it after I came back after everything had been sent to be laundered. I left 20% gratuity. We also had drinks several times on the patio - it was at odd times and it wasn't busy, but our servers were attentive and kind. The mixed drinks were also very good, but the wine list was lacking (IMHO). I can get Kim Crawford Chardonnay at home, but I get it if they're catering to non-locals. Also, regarding the location - it could not be better. This is like the upper east side of Mexico. So beautiful, safe, and central to everything. We only ubered to Casa Azul and Masala y Maiz (because it was raining) - everything else was walkable. You get street noise (honking) but it's the city and not disturbing if you've ever lived in a city. There were security guards posted outside at all times (I think because of a past review) but we never felt unsafe at any time. This was our first trip to Mexico City and we will ABSOLUTELY be back - obviously we only touched the surface staying 5 days. I would definitely stay at Brick Hotel again but may ask for a bigger bed. Other than that, it was the perfect place for our trip."

"We loved our stay at Brick Hotel. Everything was just perfect. Our room most comfortable, clean, airy and well designed, the location in Roma is charming and you can walk everywhere without having to hire transportation, the staff is professional and always smiling and helpful, the breakfasts are beyond fantastic. A special shout out to the concierges Mariel Gonzalez and Miguel Ayala who went out of their way and beyond to design us an exclusive two-day guided tour of the city center and the areas a bit further out. It was a perfect combination of art, architecture, design, culture, history and food markets that exceeded our expectations. And also the fantastic guide that they hired for us, Ivan Perez Gutierrez, could not have been better and well prepared. All in all Brick Hotel is the perfect stay for either leisure or business. It is a proper hotel, practical, beautifully designed and professional too."

"Stayed at The Brick Hotel in Mexico City and had an awesome experience. The location in the Roma area is perfect—walkable, great energy, and surrounded by some of the best spots in the city. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic—easily one of the highlights. Everything was fresh, high-quality, and the overall vibe in the restaurant made it a great way to start the day. Service across the board was great, but a special shoutout to Alondra at the front desk—she was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and made everything seamless from check-in to recommendations. Would definitely stay here again. Great vibes all around."
