PB hotel design editorial

Behind an ornate baroque gate on Emilio Castelar, where Polanco's tree-canopied streets carry the lingering residential ease of Mexico City's most quietly wealthy neighbourhood, sits a property that refuses to resolve its own contradiction — and is better for it. Casa Polanco was carved from a early twentieth-century mansion whose white stucco facade, wrought-iron balustrades, and carved stone portal survive intact, while a contemporary addition rises behind and above it in clean horizontal planes of concrete and glass. The tension between those two registers, Porfiriato ornament and restrained modernism, is the defining condition of the hotel. The interiors work the same negotiation with considerable skill. In the courtyard restaurant, spiral plaster columns and arched openings anchor the historic volume while hand-drawn botanical murals, cane-back banquettes in sage stripe, and slender planted trees give the space a garden lightness that avoids pastiche. Guest rooms in the newer wing present a sharper palette — houndstooth-upholstered headboards in terracotta or putty, blackened steel nightstands with brass hardware, rattan bench frames, and floor-to-ceiling glazing that draws the Bosque de Chapultepec's canopy directly into the room. The rooftop terrace, planted generously around its timber deck and furnished in matte graphite, dissolves the boundary between building and parkland entirely. The hotel runs to around 30 rooms across three floors, a scale that keeps the house feeling exactly like one.

"I have nothing but positive words for this amazing, boutique hotel. It was our first time to CDMX for our family of 5 and we booked CP very last minute. Due to the last minute booking, CP was able to accommodate our family in 3 rooms with a room change necessary half way through our stay. The staff handled the rooms change seamlessly. From the minute we walked in the door, everything was lovely. The staff is so helpful and gracious, the design and decor are stunning, and the neighborhood is divine. Regina, Robert, and everyone at the front desk are incredibly helpful. Every room is different. Some have private decks, some have 2 sinks, some face an interior garden and some have park views. We experienced a variety of rooms due to the room change and they were all thoughtfully designed and beautifully decorated. The beds and bedding are very comfy. The meals at CP are delicious. We ate breakfast there daily and often had an afternoon snack after exploring the city. The gym is small but more than enough to do a workout. CP has partnerships with larger gyms in the neighborhood should you need."

"Casa Polanco is a very special place. From the moment we arrived at the front gate, we felt like beloved family members (albeit in a very well-heeled family!). The first thing I must point out is staff - to a person, they are the best. Professional, friendly, warm, helpful, caring. We lacked for nothing. Warmest thank yous, in particular, go to Denise and Carla at breakfast, Roberto at the front desk, and "Juanito," the bar man extraordinaire. Everyone remembered our names, what we like and how we like it, and helped to make this a unique stay. The building itself is a designer's delight - a fully renovated mansion in the upscale Polanco neighborhood with large, gorgeous rooms (we had a Park View Suite on the ground floor), a light-filled atrium where we enjoyed breakfast and, later in the day, afternoon snacks and beverages. There is a beautifully appointed "library" where guests can relax with snacks and beverages (they even have a tequila honor bar). And, because they seem to have thought of everything, there is a ice pop cart that comes out in the afternoon, just the thing to cool you off on a hot day. All the beverages and snacks in the room are part of the daily rate (which, to be fair, ain't cheap), as are drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and the curated selection of snacks at the bar. Often, we would return from our day's travels to find a surprise "gift" in the room - a chilled bottle of champagne or a bottle of high-end mezcal. Back to our room for a second - we had an extremely comfortable bed with luscious linens, it was very quiet (we had worried, needlessly, that because we were on the ground floor, it might be noisy - but nope - quiet as a tomb), the bathroom was furnished with both a marble shower and a separate, and huge, soaking tub, and the toiletries and general room scent were fabulous - from local scent designer Xinu (I am told, the Latin American version of Le Labo). Towels were soft and cozy and we never lacked for any. Honestly, if you can see clear to the splurge, GO TO CASA POLANCO - you will not regret it."

"Terrific experience. Everybody makes you feel at home and special. Beautiful boutique hotel. Everything is complimentary - do not nickel and dime you on things like drinks (free), minibar, etc. I literally returned to CDMX just to stay at Casa Polanco."

"It's been five months since we went and i can't stop thinking still about how amazing the service and experience was at Casa Polanco! From the moment we were greeted curbside to every person who worked there, we felt cared for and every person was so exceptional. The location is superb too! If you're looking for a boutique hotel that feels more like you're staying at a luxurious villa, this is your place without question. We felt so safe, as they prioritized security and service. If there were more than five stars to give, I would!"
