PB hotel design editorial

At the intersection of Presidente Masaryk and Anatole France in Polanco, a curved glass tower wrapped in a continuous curtain wall announces itself with the quiet confidence of mid-century commercial modernism — all reflective facade and rounded corner, the mature trees of one of Mexico City's most polished avenues softening its street presence. Las Alcobas, which opened in 2011 within this existing structure, turned the building's cylindrical geometry into an interior asset: the tower-facing rooms curve gently around the glass skin, sheer linen curtains diffusing the Polanco streetscape into something closer to landscape than cityscape. Interior designer Yabu Pushelberg handled the 35 rooms with the kind of restraint that Polanco's gallery-dense neighborhood demands. Darkly carved geometric credenzas — their relief pattern appearing both pre-Columbian and Art Deco in the same glance — anchor the public spaces alongside custom bronze screens cast in branching botanical forms, while original figurative paintings bring a specifically Mexican sensibility to the collection. Guestrooms layer rosewood-toned cabinetry and lacquered glass side tables against grey wool rugs and upholstered platform beds, the palette shifting between warm timber and cool slate in a way that keeps each room feeling considered rather than assembled. The ground-floor restaurant, with its herringbone parquet and black-steel gridded windows, draws Polanco's lunch crowd as reliably as any standalone address on the street.

"A very nice, luxurious hotel to stay in, in the midst of Mexico City. The staff is wonderful, and the room was clean and quiet, as well as incredibly comfortable with all the amenities one could need. The Polanco neighborhood is also pleasant, with nearby parks and restaurants, as well as higher end shopping. 10 minute walk to the subway and 30 minute walk to the Anthropology and several other museums and to the Botanical Garden. I felt very comfortable as a solo traveler when I stopped into Mex City for 3 days on the way home from a week with friends in Oaxaca. Thank you to everyone - great breakfast as well!"

"Such a great boutique hotel!!! Room was pretty spacious and nicely decorated and furnished. The shower was amazing! We had adjoining rooms, which was super convenient. Both rooms were pretty quiet at night. Breakfast was included with our room and was really delicious - I was surprised! The service was very friendly and attentive. They even gave us a room to sleep in after we arrived on a redeye and our actual room wasn't ready yet. The location was great - smack in the middle of a high end shopping area with great restaurants and bars."

"I just wrapped up an incredible stay and it was hands-down one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Mexico City. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was warm, genuine, and truly exceptional – the staff remembered our names, offered thoughtful recommendations, and went out of their way to make everything seamless and enjoyable. The breakfast was an absolute highlight! Every morning felt like a treat. It was varied, high-quality, and generous – we looked forward to it every day and never felt the need to eat out for breakfast. Location-wise, it’s ideal surrounded by tree-lined streets, endless charming cafes, top-notch restaurants (from casual tacos to upscale spots), and boutique shopping – everything within a short, pleasant walk. The neighborhood felt very safe day and night; we strolled around comfortably. The main museum districts were an easy 20-30 minute ride away. The room was comfortable, clean, and stylish, with great amenities and a peaceful vibe that made unwinding easy after full days out. Overall, this stay exceeded expectations in every way – fantastic service, delicious food, prime location, and a real sense of safety and ease. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience the best of Mexico City without the hassle. We’ll definitely be back!"

"Our room was spacious and spotless. Service is remarkable. The hotel Concierges booked our restaurants, arranged a driver and a fabulous guide to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, and arranged tickets to a show. Angel was particularly helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The hotel is in an upscale, fabulous location"

"I trawled for weeks looking for a hotel, glad I settled on Las Alcobas. We stayed in room 43 for 4 nights. Great bright large room with everything you could need and more. The room controls are all on a handy tablet and the housekeeping service is beyond excellent. Full turn down service is offered with homemade ( they must be ) chocolate buttons in cute tins each night, it’s the little touches that makes a hotel a temporary home. We felt at home. All the staff are beyond polite and welcoming, as you’d expect for a quality boutique style hotel. Breakfast was great generally, with fresh bakery items and then included order from the a la carte menu, and service on the first few days was far superior to our last day. The stay would have been perfect apart from our departure day breakfast where our order ( by the head person as he had a jacket on ) was forgotten and after 35 mins of no breakfast we enquired. They then sent out rushed food with uncooked eggs which were ‘snotty’ so we went without breakfast. Clearly a slight on their part but that’s why our perfect trip went from perfect 100% and 5* To a strong 4.5 stars As there is no option for 4.5 it’s fair to level up to 5 Gracias Las Alcobas ♥️"
