Roma Norte's streets have a particular quality at dusk — the old Porfirian mansions glow amber under their uplights while jacarandas filter the last of the evening light, and it is into exactly this atmosphere that Roso Guest House was set when it opened in 2015. The building, an early twentieth-century townhouse characteristic of the district's Francophile optimism under President Díaz, retains its original wrought-iron gates and window guards, elaborate plasterwork cartouches above the entrance, and the kind of high-ceilinged proportions that no developer today would leave intact. DECU Hotels, the Mexican collection behind the property, chose to work with the bones of the house rather than overwhelm them: a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Roso operates across just ten rooms, each treated individually. Inside, the ten rooms layer herringbone-laid timber floors and warm walnut joinery against the original ornate cornicing, the contemporary furniture — low platform beds, open shelving, a Louis XVI-style upholstered bench in dusty rose — calibrated to feel residential without being precious. The internal passageway is paved in blue and white encaustic mosaic tiles and lined with a dense curtain of climbing plants scaling a steel-framed living wall, connecting old and new volumes with an offhand generosity that feels entirely Mexican. The terrace restaurant carries the same ease: green hex tiles underfoot, a long banquette in bold cabana stripe, cast-iron bistro chairs, and cascading ferns overhead turning the whole courtyard into a garden room.
