PB hotel design editorial

Cantera stone — the pale, porous volcanic rock quarried from Oaxacan hillsides for centuries and used to carve the facades of Santo Domingo and the cathedral — reappears here as the primary surface of a contemporary four-storey building in the city's historic centro. The Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca translates that deep local material vocabulary into a modern hospitality language: rough-cut cantera blocks clad the courtyard walls and rooftop terrace, perforated screens echo the geometric lattice patterns of regional textile and craft traditions, and raised planting beds filled with columnar cardón cacti, agave, and river-washed stone bring the semi-arid landscape of the Oaxacan valleys into the heart of the building. The interior design follows through with similar discipline. Guest rooms are finished in terrazzo floors and warm sand-toned wallcoverings, with walnut-faced millwork providing the primary furniture structure and woven rattan armchairs introducing a domestic softness. Pendant lights in perforated metal echo the geometric screens visible throughout the exterior. The pool terrace runs as a narrow lap lane between a heavily textured relief wall — its raised square motifs drawn from pre-Columbian decorative forms — and an open-air bar furnished with teak sun loungers. On the roof, live-edge mesquite tables, bamboo screening, and woven pendant chairs give the restaurant terrace the unhurried atmosphere of a Oaxacan courtyard at dusk rather than a hotel amenity deck.

Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca Reviews

"We stayed at this beautiful hotel whilst attending a wedding in Oaxaca. We booked a suite and it was very spacious and comfortable for the two of us and our granddaughter in the days we looked after her. The staff were amazing - so friendly, responsive, providing excellent service, and I have to specifically call out Jaime at the front of the hotel, Nefaili (sorry if I have misspelled the name) and Frida who took wonderful care of us at breakfast and in the lounge. We went to the spa the day before we left and it was by far one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The sauna, cold shower, steam room, and plunge pools were a lovely way to unwind and relax before the massage. I had Hayde and she had magic in her hands and my husband had Gabi and she helped him with a tight muscle in his upper back. I highly recommend the spa and massage. Overall, we had a truly fantastic stay in this awesome hotel."

"I came here for a birthday trip with friends. One of my friends is newly pregnant and we all had some tea from the lobby. It turns out the tea they put out in the lobby is an herbal tea used for abortion purposes, but declined to notify anyone what kind of tea it was. My friend experienced severe cramping and stayed in during the day. We reported our concerns to the hotel and they declined to do anything about it except offer to call a doctor. It was shocking. They also threw away our ear plugs in our room and then didn’t have enough ear plugs to replace them. Overall I would not recommend."
