PB hotel design editorial

Where the Sierra Madre meets the Pacific at Punta de Mita, one of Mexico's last undeveloped stretches of Nayarit coastline provided the site for Conrad Punta de Mita — a low-rise resort that earns its footprint by spreading horizontally rather than asserting itself vertically against the jungle backdrop. The property's white-rendered blocks, no taller than four storeys, step back from a broad crescent of beach in a configuration that keeps the mountain ridgeline visible from nearly every angle, a restraint that reads clearly in the aerial view as deliberate planning rather than accident. The interiors take their cues from the palette immediately outside: warm tawny wood headboards in a herringbone pattern, large-format pale stone tile underfoot, and accent textiles in Pacific blue and burnt amber that shift register between rooms without abandoning the same coastal grammar. Woven rattan chairs on deep balconies open to unobstructed ocean sightlines, while the beach club — teak tables set directly on sand beneath tensile canvas shade sails strung with warm Edison bulbs — gives the property its most atmospheric moment, the Pacific framed by a colonnade of coconut palms whose trunks recede toward the horizon. The freeform pool system meanders through planted grounds toward the water's edge, terminating in an infinity edge that dissolves the boundary between fresh and salt water at the property's quieter, more private southern end.

"I am so incredibly grateful that we decided to stay at the Conrad punta de mita for a special event that we planned for our family. The event staff were a pleasure to work with from the beginning, between helping us with our room block, to planning a big party for our 150 guests, everything was seamless. They were accommodating, creative and an absolute pleasure to work with. We are so thankful to Heriberto, Wendy and the entire Conrad team for their effort and support to help make our events amazing. We hope to be back soon!"

"We did not expect the Conrad to feel like a 5 star hotel. We were most shocked by the food - we visited all 3 restaurants and the food was outstanding. We live in the city of Chicago and are "spoiled" by good food, and the Conrad met our expectations. We also were coming off a trip from Mexico City & San Miquel and didn't expect the food to even remotely come close to the food offered in those cities!! The service was 5 stars - upgraded room, assistance when my son was stung by a jellyfish, macaroons in the room (thanks Andrea Ontiveros), poolside servers, etc. The pool water was super clean, towels always stocked, and my kids loved the slide and sweet game room. Would definitely recommend!!"

"I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Conrad Punta Mita. We originally booked a Standard Ocean View room, and even as a Hilton Diamond member, where I should get free upgrades if available. Ahead of time, I was contacted by Omar, Gladys, and Andrea and encouraged to pay an additional $200 per night for a Superior Suite Ocean View. I agreed because we were already spending a lot of money and expected a meaningfully better experience. Instead, we were placed in Room 1201, and the so-called “upgraded” ocean view was incredibly misleading. The attached photo shows what Hilton/Conrad considered an “ocean view.” My sister-in-law stayed in the same original Ocean View category and had essentially the same view, so paying extra felt like a complete waste and a bait-and-switch. At check-in, we were then told there was an actual beachfront option available, but that it would cost another $300 per night on top of the $200 per night upgrade. That was the moment this started to feel like a scam. For a stay costing close to $700 per night, this was unacceptable. As a Diamond member, I understand upgrades are based on availability, but when I finally got into my room a few hours later to complain, I was told they were sold out and couldn't move or upgrade us. They said we could move the next day, but nobody wants to pack up and switch rooms in the middle of a vacation. Zain did waive the $200 per night, which I appreciate, but much more should have been done given how misleading the room category was and how much money we spent. A few warnings for future guests: Do not assume “Ocean View” means a real ocean view, especially on lower floors. In my opinion, anything on the 2nd floor or below should not be marketed as ocean view. Be very careful with transportation arranged through the hotel. We paid $150 for a car to the airport, then later learned an Uber was about $30. The property itself is nice, but the pricing and constant upsell culture made the whole experience feel exploitative. For Mexico, this was wildly overpriced and left me feeling like the hotel was constantly trying to take advantage of guests rather than provide luxury service. I would not stay here again."

"We are having an amazing time here. The service, the food, and the relaxed vibes are immaculate. Nice and quiet during our stay in April too! Our favourite part of our trip so far is the Bingo in the pool with Juan Carlos! He is an amazing host; funny, kind, and knows how to make guests happy and have a good time. We will certainly be back."
