PB hotel design editorial
Forty-eight forested acres on a private Pacific peninsula, and only 3% of the ecosystem disturbed in bringing it to life — that restraint is the founding principle of Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, which arrived in Punta Mita in December 2022 as Four Seasons' first luxury tented resort in the Americas. Luxury Frontiers, the specialist studio behind a growing canon of high-end safari and wilderness camps, handled both architecture and interiors, deploying their biophilic framework with particular care here: the 15 permanent tented bungalows are threaded through the jungle canopy rather than imposed upon it, their curved tensile roofs — white and taut as sails — rising just enough above the treeline to catch the Pacific breeze while leaving the forest ceiling largely intact. Inside, the material palette is warm and deliberately local: reclaimed hardwood decking runs continuously from living area to terrace and into the private pool surrounds, where pink granite boulders have been left exactly where they were found, incorporated into the pool's freeform edge as though the water simply gathered around them. Interiors layer linen upholstery, solid walnut furniture with clean Arts-and-Crafts joinery, jute rugs, and rattan lanterns — nothing that couldn't credibly have come from the region's craft traditions. The effect, across every space, is of a camp that grew out of the land rather than one installed on top of it, which at Naviva is precisely the point.

Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita Reviews
"What a fantastic stay! We travel quite a bit and Naviva may have ruined hotels/resorts for us going forward. The staff is fantastic. Everything is so personalized, intimate. I would love to come back."

"Fabulous stay here at Naviva Beautiful place with stunning, super luxury individual style house/pods with every luxury considered and with private pool. Service and food were excellent. Cocktails a plenty! Pelicans flying by and humming birds. What a treat! Thank you team Naviva"

"Naviva is not a resort. It’s a rebirth. It’s what happens when luxury sheds its layers of pretension and becomes presence. Where the only transaction is trust—trust in the experience, trust in nature, and ultimately, trust in yourself. From the first moment I stepped onto the property and was greeted by Eduardo, I knew this would be different. He wasn’t just the property manager; he was a curator of energy, tailoring my days to reflect how I like to live—fully immersed, endlessly curious, and deeply present. He somehow knew I didn’t come here to lounge on a beach. I came to feel, move, explore, and transform. And he made sure of it. The Tamazcal ceremony set the tone immediately—a powerful, primal detox that stripped away the noise and pulled me straight into stillness. I emerged drenched in sweat and clarity. The rest of the trip flowed like a dream—massages, ocean adventures, soulful meals, sound healing, movement, even a cooking class that nourished far more than hunger. The food? Sublime. Not just in taste but in intention. Between the ceremonies, the ingredients, the sweat, the saltwater, and the sacred silence—I’m convinced I left half my inflammation behind in those jungle canopies. I’ve never felt so light in my own body. On my last morning, after yoga, the Restore Ceremony (a second Tamazcal followed by an ice plunge), and another massage, I returned to my room with the strangest sensation—grief. A deep, childlike sadness that it was over. And I don’t say that lightly. I travel weekly. I check in and out of places like clockwork. But this wasn’t a check-out. It felt like a goodbye to a part of myself I didn’t even know was ready to be released. I came to Naviva expecting a beautiful getaway. I left with something far more rare: wholeness. Whether you’re a solo seeker or arriving hand-in-hand with someone you love, Naviva will hold you, challenge you, surprise you—and soften you. It’s where the jungle meets soul. Where the only itinerary is intuition. Where you don’t just stay—you become. Thank you, Naviva, for creating something that transcends words. A place where nothing is expected, and yet everything is delivered. No transactions. No tension. Just truth. Worth every second. And then some."

"My wife and I stayed at Naviva to celebrate a special milestone, and even among all the glowing reviews online, it completely exceeded our expectations. We’re not regular high-end travelers—our typical splurge caps around $1–2k/night—but decided to go all-in this time. From start to finish, Naviva delivered something rare: a stay that felt deeply personal, restorative, and designed just for us. Pre-Arrival & Welcome: Before arrival, we had a virtual consultation with a guest experience coordinator who asked thoughtful questions about our allergies, preferences, and trip goals. While the preliminary itinerary they created was a nice touch, we ended up changing plans a lot once on site. It might work better if they helped guests identify general interests and then finalized details after arrival. Upon arrival, Edu (the GM) and Manuel (one of the 4 guides) welcomed us warmly and explained that Naviva was our home. From the outset, we were encouraged to ask for anything—an invitation we eventually embraced, and it made all the difference. Dining & Service Naviva’s dining is spontaneous and tailored. There’s no formal menu, but a rotating list of daily specials and a team that pays close attention to your likes and dislikes. They took my dislike of cilantro and my wife’s lactose intolerance seriously and seamlessly adapted dishes for us. • Chef Miguel and his team blew us away daily. • Kevin, their pastry chef (previously at Rosetta CDMX), surprised us with an almond croissant and gifted us guava rolls to go on our last day. • Highlights included: ceviche, poke bowls, tacos, fresh seabass from local spearfisherman, and many wonderful cocktails • After I showed interest during their seacuterie class, I was invited into the kitchen to learn and cook alongside Chef Miguel—an unexpected and unforgettable moment. Wellness & Activities • Yoga at Risco Terrace (9am) – Peaceful and scenic, but not flexible on time. • Stretching and training session with Ram – Informal and totally customized. • Outdoor “gym” – Visually cool with a Flintstones vibe, but not practical in heat/sun. One major highlight (or ordeal, depending on your perspective) was the Temazcal ceremony. It’s a traditional ritual involving a dome-like adobe sweat lodge. It's offered 3 times a week. A shaman leads you through chants, steam, and intense heat using lava rocks and herbal infusions. It was spiritually ambitious and physically brutal—total darkness, four cycles of escalating heat, sweat pouring from everywhere. Some may find it healing. We mostly found it overwhelming and… humid. Glad we did it, but wouldn’t repeat it. Bungalows & Property: The bungalows are stunning—spacious, luxurious, yet immersed in nature. Each one includes a screened-in “tent” connected to the main room. Pro tip: don’t leave food out in the tent. A coati (raccoon-like animal) opened the screen and helped itself to our leftovers. Little touches made the experience seamless: • Bluetooth Marshall speaker for personal tunes by the beach or pool. • Laundry included, which was a huge plus. • Everyone knew us by name, adding warmth and familiarity without being too formal. The selva pool is serene, beautifully shaded, and the perfect place to unwind. ⸻ Final Thoughts Naviva isn’t just a resort—it’s a mindset shift. The more we engaged with the staff, shared our interests, and leaned into the moment, the more they went above and beyond to create joy, surprise, and comfort. Yes, it’s expensive. But for us, it was worth every penny. Not for opulence or over-the-top glamor, but for the authentic care, the freedom to shape our stay, and the sense that we were more than just guests. We arrived as skeptics. We left transformed."

"I just returned from a 5 night stay at Naviva and all I can say is WOW!. This property deserves all the 5-star reviews and other accolades it has received to date!! The bungalows (aka "the tents") are spacious, fresh, and extremely comfortable and, of course, "Four Season +" quality. We often find something in a hotel room, even in the most lux 5-star resorts, that seems a little tired and could use refreshing -- not at Naviva. Everything in our bungalow was impeccable! The dining experiences are unique, may take a bit to get used to for some, but in the end are fully customized to your wishes. Essentially, you can eat or drink almost anything you want, how you want it, when you want it and where you wish to do so. Don't expect to see a menu -- there is a daily "special" that is always unique and gourmet but no worries if it is not your cup of tea - the chef will prepare anything you want. We ate a few meals in the restaurant (where there were never more than 4 other couples dining), one night we had a beach dinner (which was over the top!!) to celebrate a special birthday, and had several meals delivered to our room. Everything was tasty and customized to our wishes. The daily activities were plentiful. Whether it was an authentic wellness ritual, a workout, a guided hike or spa treatment, all were delivered by passionate, authentic, and highly capable staff. If there is something you would like to do and the "scheduled" time does not work in your plans -- just let them know and they will schedule a private session for you (some at a nominal charge). We did use a couple of their third-party vendors for whale watching and photography and they were all topnotch! The beach and pool areas were clean, comfortable, and entirely relaxing -- we rarely saw anyone else on the beach or more than a couple people at the pool. Of course, with the good size, private, heated pool at your bungalow, there was really no reason to leave. With all that said, the team at Naviva is really what makes this place special -- they could not be more accommodating and focused on tailoring an experience to you. In addition to several calls and emails in advance of our arrival to ensure they were prepared for anything we might have wanted; they have team members "locked in" to any questions/requests that are submitted via the Four Seasons app while on property. Every request was immediately responded to and acted upon. Additionally, the team's kindness, warmth and passion for the Naviva experience was evident with every interaction -- they all quickly learn your name and are focused on ensuring nothing but the best experience - they clearly want to "overserve". Even the landscaping crew, took time out from their work, to share what projects they were working on and some insights into the local horticulture and wildlife. I referenced earlier that we were celebrating a special birthday -- the team at Naviva went above and beyond to decorate my room and ensure everyone on staff knew about my special day. I could go on and on but much of it has already been written and I will just reconfirm the superlatives. I really did not know what to expect, whether we would get bored, and whether we needed more "action" that one of the larger resorts on Punta Mita might provide. In the end, we could not believe how quickly the time passed and are already discussing when we want to return!"
