PB hotel design editorial

Planted on a private peninsula forty-five minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, where the Sierra Madre meets the Pacific and the Bahía de Banderas curves toward Nayarit, the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort draws its architectural character from the vernacular hacienda tradition rather than from the resort typologies that dominate Mexico's coastal development. The low-rise structures — rendered in warm plaster, capped with exposed timber beam ceilings, and floored throughout in terracotta saltillo tile — establish an intimate scale that the surrounding palm canopy reinforces. Opened in 2009 within the gated Punta Mita development alongside a Four Seasons property on the same peninsula, the resort comprises 120 guest rooms and suites arranged in village-like clusters that step gently toward the water. The interiors translate hacienda materiality into a contemporary register: carved wood headboards with woven textile insets, linen drapery pooling against terracotta floors, and low walnut case furniture grounded on travertine plinths. Wall sconces in brushed brass and circular mirrors warm the plaster-finished walls without overstating their presence. Against that quieter residential vocabulary, the main dining room strikes a deliberately different note — barrel-vaulted ceiling, high-gloss oak floors, Damask-upholstered tufted chairs, and cascading capiz-shell chandeliers that give the room something closer to a formal European salon than a beach club. The freeform pool and its curving beachside pavilion, visible in the renderings, extend the same biomorphic ease that characterizes the resort's site planning throughout.

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort Reviews

"Came here for a week long vacation. Been here 11 times before and have really enjoyed it every time. I'm a lifetime platinum member with 956 nights and 17 years as platinum. We checked in on saturday and then on sunday there was significant unrest in Puerto vallarta and the surrounding areas requiring us to shelter in place. Only one restaurant was open at St. Regis and we could not go to the other restaurants nearby at the other hotels due to the lockdown. The staff were great and did all they could to make the environment as good as it could be. The restaurants finally got back up an running later in the week. Again, given the circumstances, all was very good. The one issue I had was that the staff told me the hotel is going to be mostly empty for the next few weeks (today the pool only had 4 people- on a friday). The unrest has spooked many people from the area. This means many on the staff probably will not be working. I called the front desk and told them I was willing to stay an extra day if they were willing to offer a discount (the hotel is extremely expensive). I figured this could be a nice win/win situation. I had to speak to 3 different people just to finally get a tiny concession. The reality was that I was indifferent in staying an 8th day, but I wanted to see if the management valued my loyalty and wanted to keep a few of the staff employed a while longer. If the hotel management understood economics, they would know that even if they didn't charge me, paying for an expensive lunch, dinner and drinks would help maintain a staffing level for one more day. It seems there is no one here who gets the bigger picture. I'm awaiting a call back from the GM, I'm not going to hold my breath. Again, the staff is excellent, I just find the management at these hotel chains do not empower the front line to do what is obvious. Given the unrest over the past week and this lack of management judgement, it may be my last time at this great resort."

"This is not what I would consider a 5* property. There were multiple issues during my stay and now a month after I am still dealing with the hotel. I was charged twice. Once at the appropriate time. And Once a month after my check out for $3500. Unauthorized charges to peoples credit cards is illegal and unacceptable. Now for the actual stay… there were massive bugs in the rooms. They would remove used towels and face cloths and never replace them. Everyday I had to text the butler service to ask for clean ones. That’s ridiculous. The butler would take 30-60 mins to respond with action. The food is over priced for what it is. It’s simple, relatively flavourless and quite frankly not of the caliber it should be. The food service is appalling. I should not have to ask for cutlery, water or salt at a 5* property. One night it took 1.5 hours to receive quesadillas. The beach sucks. It’s rocky even in the water. I would never stay here again and I urge you to consider the Conrad or the four seasons instead of the st. Regis"

"We had a wonderful day at the St. Regis Beach Club in Punta Mita. The setting is beautiful, the service is seamless, and the overall experience is both relaxing and luxurious. A special thank you to our beach attendant, Jesus Ayala, who was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and incredibly professional. He went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well cared for, making the day truly memorable"

"Our vacation at St. Regis was wonderful because of the amazing service offered by the whole staff, but in particular Pablo who attended to us each day at the Adults Only pool. He truly made a big difference in how we will always remember our time here!"
