PB hotel design editorial

Paulina Morán's central challenge at Chablé Maroma was one of productive restraint: how to build seventy villas at Punta Maroma — one of the Riviera Maya's most ecologically sensitive stretches of Caribbean coastline — without the landscape losing. Her answer, delivered when the property opened in 2018, was to keep everything low and porous, threading thatched palapa roofs and whitewashed stone walls through existing jungle rather than clearing it. The signature cyan wave-tile pool sits at the boundary where beach vegetation gives way to sand, a piece of graphic confidence in an otherwise softly naturalistic composition. Inside, Morán's palette rewards closer attention. The villas work through tropical hardwoods — warm-toned ceilings planked in dark timber, louvred cabinetry, bench frames with the slightly ceremonial weight of mid-century Mexican craft — set against limestone-toned floors and walls kept white enough to bounce the surrounding green light. Woven pendant lamps and textured stone accent panels introduce artisanal texture without tipping into folkloric pastiche. The restaurant is the property's most theatrical interior: sinuous bands of carved wood branch and twist from floor to ceiling like an abstracted ceiba canopy, framing a well-stocked bar in amber light. The 17,000-square-foot spa, clad in petrified wood around its therapy pool, carries the same instinct — natural material made strange enough to feel designed.

"This beautiful hotel situated on a long white deserted sandy beach has incredible food and service. We come back every year as we love it. The rooms are very large, well designed and comfortable. You should know that none of them have a sea view. They are all at the back of the property in the jungle but I like that you wake up with the birds and green all around. I prefer the upstairs ones, even though the plunge pool is smaller, because I like to see the sky and feel the breeze. (They are cheaper too) The beach is wonderful but not fabulous for swimming as there can be seaweed but the pool is very close and divine. You can walk miles and miles on the beach. The Spa is exceptional, steam and hot and cold tubs are included but the rest is ouch expensive. Staff everywhere super helpful and charming."

"One of the finest hotels on the Mexican Maya Riviera, where not only the prestigious awards listed on the website, but the reality of the hotel itself truly reflects this exceptional level of quality. Kindness and genuine attentiveness are present throughout every moment of the stay. Located within a jungle and mangrove forest, the hotel complex creates a truly unique and tranquil atmosphere that cannot be compared to other ultra-luxury resorts. Its character, serenity, and connection to nature set it apart. The location and layout of the rooms meet every expectation, offering a sense of privacy and comfort at the highest level. The staff’s warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail are outstanding. In 2025, a Michelin-starred restaurant further elevates the experience, ensuring that dining is not only exquisite but truly unforgettable. The hotel is unquestionably worthy of its membership in The Leading Hotels of the World. Special mention must be made of the SPA, where a jungle-surrounded pool and a heated jacuzzi create an experience that is truly one of a kind. The sunshine, the beach, the dunes, and the extraordinary flora and fauna of the area together create an incredible atmosphere that defines the spirit of the hotel. Do not miss it – if you choose this place, you are guaranteed an unforgettable experience."

"We enjoyed two dreamy nights at this fantastic hotel. The accommodation was wonderful- being nestled in the palms of the jungle with lots of light thanks to the floor to ceiling windows was delightful and, unlike at many hotels, hear all the remote controlled lighting, etc was super easy to navigate! The Chable signature floor to ceiling rain showers- including an outdoor option-, enormous local stone carved bathtub plus two WCs was a treat. We had previously stayed at the Chable Yucatan property and as there, the food and beverage offerings at Chable Maroma were spectacular. We were especially impressed with the wine tasting we enjoyed thanks to Miguel- more a lesson on the history of the Mexican wine industry than simply an opportunity to try different Mexican wines.  And the tasting at Bu’ll was marvelous. The spa is also wonderful and unique.  We experienced a genuine intro to Mayan spiritual rituals through the welcome blessing, temescale and water ceremony- each of which was explained in a meaningful and deeply personal way- and experiencing a right-out -of- the -ground cochinita (a suckling pig cooked in the traditional Mayan way for 15 hours underground covered with banana leaves and other local flavorings ) was absolutely delicious. Such treats all around. I don’t think we’ve ever experienced a more lovely beach. Unlike most Cancun hotels, here you feel complete privacy from other properties (there are non directly adjacent) and while enjoying unobstructed beach views from the beach, you also see the gorgeous dunes and mangroves as you walk towards it. We loved the use of the palm trees to provide natural shade in place of a line of umbrellas,  the pristine white sand   so soft yet perfectly firm for walking. Another special part was the wonderful staff. Everyone smiles and seems genuinely  happy to be at Chable and to be assisting in any way to enhance guests’ experiences. We will return with pleasure and excitement."

"We stayed in a Serenity Villa, which is the closest standalone single villa nearest to the restaurants and main pool area. It is very private and cozy. We are here where perhaps less than 1/2 the property was occupied. The villa was surrounded by lush vegetation and it gave a very serene atmosphere. There are two toilets which is very convenient. The indoor/outdoor rain shower is very refreshing. However, there is no handheld shower head. The plunge pool is well maintained and very private. Unlimited soft drinks and beer in the small refrigerator. There are 6 large bottles of filtered water spaced around the room and bedside daily which is very nice and convenient. Room lighting and shades were easy to use electronically. The included morning breakfast/brunch at the poolside is excellent. The alar cate menu provides many choices. The restaurant staff are very friendly and accommodating. The soy latte was excellent. I really enjoyed the live harp music by a very skilled musician from around 9:30 to 10:30 am. Simon at the restaurant was exceptionally friendly. The spa was excellent too but a bit on the pricey side. We got to dip in the jet jacuzzi and a large plunge pool before our massage. The smoke and sound ritual before the massage was very unique and refreshing, Dinner at the Buul was ok. Choices of food is quite limited. We happen to run into a once a month 6 course tasting dinner by an out of town famous chef with wine pairing. Price was very reasonable. Overall, we had a pleasant and relaxed stay for 3 nights."
