PB hotel design editorial

Tankah Bay sits a few kilometres north of Tulum's more crowded hotel zone, where the Caribbean coastline quiets into a shallow turquoise bay fringed by intact jungle — and it is this particular stretch of shore that gives Bespoke Hotel its clearest argument for existence. The low-rise massing, rendered in warm sand-toned concrete with deeply articulated vertical fins, draws a loose lineage from Mexican modernism's interest in pre-Columbian geometry without resorting to pastiche. Those pronounced pilasters, visible across the pool courtyard facade, do real architectural work: they shade the balconies, break the building's four-storey rhythm into residential increments, and anchor the structure against the horizontal pull of the beach beyond. Inside, the interiors move between robust materiality and deliberate restraint. Live-edge parota wood dining tables anchor the suites' open-plan living areas, pendant lights fashioned from dried palm fronds introduce an artisanal warmth above black stone kitchen surfaces, and walnut-toned cabinetry keeps the overall atmosphere closer to a well-considered private residence than a resort unit. Bedrooms are organised around tall, narrow black-framed windows that frame the Caribbean in portrait rather than panorama — a considered choice that filters the view rather than submitting to it. Rattan loungers on the beach, woven day beds at the pool deck, and overwater cabanas confirm the property's preference for natural fibre and dark wood over the bleached palette that defines so much of the Riviera Maya's competing inventory.

"A couple of my friends and I stayed at The Bespoke last week to celebrate my birthday and we had an incredible experience! I chose The Bespoke because I really liked the idea of us all staying in the same apartment (vs separate rooms). The entire staff - even prior to the trip - was beyond helpful and accommodating from everything to helping book our airport transportation to giving restaurant recommendations. The hotel, beach/pool, and grounds were beautiful and well-kept; A serene atmosphere away from the liveliness of the main hotel strip (if that's the vibe you're looking for). We also had a couple meals at the hotel restaurant and everything was delicious - highly recommend the tuna tostadas! I definitely plan to return. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!"

"The beach and the pool are the stand-out features of this property. A quiet, modern, exclusive setting away from the buzz of the Tulum hotel-zone, this hotel has 1-4bedroom appartment set-ups ideal for families, multi-generation travellers, or Girls/Boys Trips. Calm, protected bay with shallow waters extending out hundreds of metres beyond the shore - perfect for families so children can safely splash on the shore, or for easily floating and paddling in waist-deep surf. For those who need a proper swim, the pool (unheated) allows for laps or sunbathing. Very quiet and calm location, beach loungers readily available, with excellent bar and snack service available throughout the day. On-site restaurant has a modest selection of tastey cocktails and meals with higher quality - and price - than the usual beach-front resort. Our family of five really took advantage of the spacious 3-bedroom set-up, spreading out indoors and lounging on the roof-top next to the private plunge pool. We made about half the meals in the well-appointed kitchen during our one-week stay, however, no food is provided - not coffee, not salt or cooking oils - so everything must be purchased at the supermarket in town before arriving or, avail yourself of the hotel's grocery service and get the place stocked before arrival. The grocery service worked very well for our family, as we did not rent a car during our stay, but it did come with an expected markup for the convenience. Everything was immaculate on the property; onsite gym and spa are available. The location is outside of the Tulum hotel-zone and Tulum Peublo, so for those who wish to travel out for evening dinners or visit the Tulum Ruins or locale Cenotes without a guide, a rental car would be great recommended (or be prepared to pay for taxis back and forth). The hotel will arrange private tours and excursions for guests - we took two full-day, private tours of nearby Coba Archaeological Site and the Tulum Ruins with Cenotes Swim, complete with transport and meals, both of which were lead by knowledgeable and personable guides, who made the experience for our kids (ages 9-12yrs) enjoyable and well-paced and came. Also for families or young-at-heart, the Xel-Ha Waterpark (member of the Xcaret group of adventure parks) is only 10minute drive north - this is a marine-park like no other complete with snorkling, dolphin encounters, and waterslides which can easily fill a whole day with family fun. I'd highly recommend for families/groups that are looking for a peaceful retreat with an absolutely beautiful location!"

"Without a doubt, one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in! Everything is exactly as on the images, and the beach is fantastic. There are even free kajaks to paddle out to the reef. We had a two-bedroom apartment that was superbly furnished. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and inviting for self-support. The staff is extremely friendly and even allowed us a late checkout at no extra charge. Taxis to Tulum are readily available on the corner and cost around US$20. The only downside was that the food at the hotel was bland and completely overpriced. Luckily, two good restaurants are within a 5- and 10-minute walk along the beach."
