PB hotel design editorial

Piedra caliza laid in rough-cut polygonal patterns against slatted teak ceilings — this material conversation between the ancient and the crafted defines the interior logic of TAGO Tulum, a boutique property set directly on the Caribbean shore of Tulum's hotel zone. The entrance pavilion makes the proposition clear from the first step: stripped tree-trunk columns rise beneath dark hardwood beam work, the canopy open enough to admit garden air and the scent of surrounding jungle, while polished concrete and raw limestone walls establish a palette borrowed more from Yucatecan vernacular construction than from the bohemian chic that defines so much of the corridor's hospitality. Guest rooms continue the conversation with quiet confidence. Platform beds in warm-toned timber sit against feature walls of irregular white limestone, slatted wood ceilings pulling the eye upward and inward simultaneously, travertine-effect floor tiles keeping the ground plane cool underfoot. Globe pendant lights and woven rattan wall discs add texture without decoration for its own sake. Outside, a dark-painted Buddha figure anchors the beachfront dining terrace, where black director's chairs and matte umbrellas face the Caribbean in a register that is more considered editorial shoot than resort convention. The infinity edge of a terracotta-tinted pool dissolves toward the sand, palm fronds bending into the frame — the kind of composed restraint that Tulum's better properties have always understood as the point.

TAGO Tulum Reviews

"I don’t even know where to begin—this hotel in Tulum called Tago is absolutely incredible. We actually stayed here last year, and we loved it so much that we came back again this year and chose the exact same place. That alone says everything. It has such a cute, chill boutique hotel vibe that makes it feel special and personal from the moment you arrive. The staff makes you feel so welcome and taken care of—everyone is genuinely kind, attentive, and goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. A special thank you to Angel, who truly went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. On my last day, when I wasn’t feeling well, he was so helpful and thoughtful—he even recommended what to get at the pharmacy, which made a huge difference. That level of care really stood out. The restaurants are fantastic, with amazing food and a great atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a treat. Everything about this hotel is just over the top in the best way possible—the service, the experience, and the attention to detail. It truly feels like a place you never want to leave. We already can’t wait to go back again. I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone considering staying in Tago."

"We absolutely LOVED this hotel last year when we stayed. And some things are the same. The hotel is stunning and well kept. The ground floor pools are now heated. The beds and beach beds are some of the comfiest ever. The little touches like dessert and sand messages are even better! And the staff. Absolutely first rate. Everyone. But this time we have to shout out Mari, seriously best room maid ever. Thorough, friendly, went out of her way for any little thing. A doll of a human, we hugged when we checked out. Angel the front desk guy. We would barely hit send on a text message before he came running or sent someone. Blanca the waitress, wow. Anticipated everything (like saw I had a tea bag and automatically came back with hot water and milk) absolute star. And Pablo, who ran to get my husband medicine when he got food poisoning (not from there) and even checked on him later. None of them ever acted like it was for tips. They are just that good. If I ever opened a hotel I would steal them! But not everything has stayed at that level. Like most hotels they do NOTHING about the seaweed so you can’t get in the ocean at all most days. And now the hotel (against its written policy) now seems to allow children, so I was not expecting nor happy to hear shrieking from the cenote pool. But the worst were the group of about 10 guests spread out through the hotel. They were loud, (like yelling across the garden to each other instead of calling or texting) obnoxious, rude to staff, and drunk and high every night, coming home between 4-6. We know this because they were yelling, stomping around like elephants, blasting music and even repeatedly banging on OUR door (I assume they were lost or confused) it was awful and nearly gave us a heart attack. Nothing at ALL was done to control this rowdy bunch, they seemed like VIPs and were given full reign to destroy the peaceful trip the rest of the guests sought out. I’m sorry but if that is the clientele they are now attracting I’ll have to look for a new spot. Which breaks my heart because aside from those things and the INSANELY high food prices at the restaurant it was nearly a perfect oasis."

"We loved our stay at Tago. The staff were the most accommodating we’ve ever experienced at a hotel stay, and they consistently went the extra mile. The food and drink options available on site are brilliant with various options, plus the location right on the beach was perfect. The service and maintenance of the hotel is great, with staff members always friendly, and we can’t thank Angel & his colleagues enough for helping us enjoy our week-stay in an ideal location."

"My husband and I loved our stay at Tago! The staff were wonderful, especially Carlos, Carlos (both of them!), Giovanni, and Blanca. Blanca was exceptional and went above and beyond. She is a very kind and genuine woman! We highly recommend one of their oceanfront rooms on the 2nd floor. Beautiful views and we loved watching the sunrise every day. The balcony pool was lovely and the swinging chair was so relaxing. It was also nice to have two different seating areas with a table and chairs to enjoy the ocean with different views. Beach service was outstanding! We also loved having daily dessert treats delivered to our door each evening. Another nice touch was the sand greetings every morning and evening by our stairs (“Good Morning” and “ Sweet Dreams”. The sauna and steam room were also wonderful. We were also fortunate to be there during a quiet week. It was very peaceful. Highly recommend this place!"
