"Let me start by saying that the Chedi in Oman is one of my favourite hotels in the world and the Chedi in Qatar is also excellent so we had high hopes. The hotel was generally ok. Decent size room, comfortable bed, excellent toiletries and on the whole attentive staff but it just lacks something.... A sentiment that was actually echoed by a family we got talking to who felt exactly the same. Firstly, I had communicated with the hotel prior to our arrival and said that we had stayed in other Chedi properties so we were excited about our trip and that we were celebrating a special occasion. Not one person acknowledged either of those things. The pool is far too small and crowded - it's like being at a Holiday Inn - not relaxing, not exclusive and far too cramped. The beach area is also not great. Sun loungers too close together and there was a broken side table. On one morning, there were no towels when the beach opened at 8am, the driveway down to the beach was being cleaned with a jet wash until about 9am and there were discarded pistachio shells on a couple of loungers. Not what you expect from a Chedi. Children running around like it's a playground. The hanging chairs in the lobby were being used as swings with kids charging around and breakfast was equally bad. It's not just the noise and chaos that is offensive but it's frankly dangerous carrying cups of hot water when there are children charging around the restaurant. Breakfast was good but every day I had to wait at one of the stations for items to be refilled - one day I waited 5 minutes. And, I waited 20 minutes one day for a cappuccino which never arrived. I know it was August but it's no excuse. At over £500/night, it's just not good enough and not a hotel I would go back to."

"While the rooms are very nice and the staff are very nice unfortunately the hotel just seemed to be completely overcrowded during our stay. There were long delays with getting the ordered food at breakfast and all of the lounge areas (2 pools and the beach) have been constantly at capacity and full of very loud children which isn’t very relaxing. I think the hotel would benefit from making the spa / indoor pool adults only. I also agree with other comments about the food options for dinner and lunch being only alright and really very expensive, one example being a guac and chips small portion being €21 or a pizza with burrata being €30. For trips out of the hotel to attractions nearby, really recommend visiting the beautiful old town of Kotor etc, we ordered taxis through the hotel, this has proven to be a very stressful experience with almost every journey, not necessarily the hotels fault but it would, I think be great if the hotel had some options for reputable taxis. I think that maybe in the off season this has the potential to be a really fab experience"

"This is not a 5 star hotel. I booked through American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts. The trouble started almost immediately - I could not use my Amex because of issues with their bank processor so no points for me. We were able to get into our rooms early (11am) however, I was essentially traveling solo (friend was staying in a separate room ) and they put me in what seemed like the highest possible traffic area overlooking the kids club outdoor area. There was tons of noise the first night to the point I considered asking to be moved; luckily it subsided on subsequent nights. The room was very well appointed and had a large bathroom/shower but the aircon only worked when the key was in the slot which meant you were constantly waiting for the room to cool down. Breakfast buffet was expansive but they charged extra for iced lattes and sodas. Otherwise, the food was unremarkable and overpriced. The biggest issue was the beach/pool. The beach is open to everyone that lives in the gated community where the hotel is located. It is also completely rocky and on an awkward slope. All of this would have been fine except for the fact that the last day we were there the beach was gone, washed away by a storm. If that had happened our first day, we would have been livid since we came to what was supposed to be a beach resort. This was compounded by the fact that the pool is tiny and cannot come close to accommodating even a fraction of hotel guests when the beach is closed. Ultimately, this hotel is not worth the price you are paying for it."
