PB hotel design editorial

Spread across 20 hectares of palm grove on the southern edge of Marrakech, where the city gives way to the agricultural flatlands approaching the Atlas foothills, the Mandarin Oriental Marrakech was conceived from the outset as a garden property — the architecture subordinate to the landscape rather than dominating it. The two-storey pisé-toned buildings, their warm ochre render calibrated to read as an extension of the Marrakchi earth rather than an imposition upon it, wrap around a sequence of pools whose geometry — angular, interlocking, edged in pale stone — gives the aerial view its drama. Willow trees and date palms crowd the water's margins with an informality that takes years of planting to achieve. Inside, the interiors strike a balance between Moroccan craft vocabulary and the restrained international register that defines Mandarin Oriental properties globally. Four-poster beds in dark-stained timber anchor rooms finished in tadelakt-inflected plaster and ivory linen, Beni Ourain-style rugs laying down their diamond patterns across pale wood floors. The restaurant spaces deploy pierced metalwork screens, arched steel-framed windows, and perforated ceramic pendant lanterns to establish a distinctly Moroccan atmosphere without drifting into pastiche — the dining room visible in the images achieving its warmth through layered candlelight and dense planting rather than heavy ornament. Outdoor terraces shaded by vine-threaded pergolas and furnished with rattan chairs extend the sense that Marrakech's garden tradition, rather than any hotel typology, is the true design reference here.

"I’m a fan of the Mandarin Oriental Hotels and have stayed in quite a few of them. This was my first time at the property in Marrakesh. It absolutely blew me away. Quite simply, it’s a brilliant hotel. The arrival experience, the views , the landscaping, the pool villa- all of it was beyond excellent. But what probably stood out most was the staff; genuinely exceptional service at every level. The spa was another highlight. I had a session with a outstanding massage therapist who completely fixed the tension in neck and back. The food was consistently very good. Breakfast was top class, and lunch by the pool was excellent. Quite possibly the best club sandwich I’ve ever had. The only disappointment was LingLing restaurant by Hakkasan which felt like a total mismatch with the rest of the hotel. The food was mediocre, the music far too loud and the portions surprisingly small and therefor the pricing felt excessive. The service itself was fine, but overall LingLIng felt slightly absurd within the context of such an elegant Manderin Oriental experience. It simply did not fit. The hotel’s other restaurant Shirvan was excellent, with outstanding Moroccan food and strong service. It felt in harmony with the spirit and elegance of The Manderin. One final point- and it is relatively minor one in the overall experience- is that the hotel could pay more attention to the upkeep of the villa’s , where the woodwork and paint around the private pool started peeling. It stood out slightly because the surrounding gardens and landscaping are among the most beautiful and meticulously maintained imaginable. With a bit more attention to detail on the villa maintenance side, the experience would be close to flawless. As exceptional as Mandarin Oriental Marrakesh truly is, the pricing is set at such a high level that only near-perfection really fits that positioning. And at this level of pricing, consistency becomes critical. These comments come from a guest who enjoyed the experience enormously, and wanted to highlight a few details that deserve both attention and praise. I will be coming back- many times !"

"We had a truly wonderful stay at the Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech, where we  stayed in one of the beautiful villas. From the moment we arrived, everything felt warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated. A very special Thank you goes to our butler, Yusef, who made our stay incredibly personal. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care went far beyond expectations and truly elevated our experience. We also greatly appreciated the support from Omnia at the concierge desk, along with her colleagues, who were always helpful, kind, and efficient. The housekeeping team, especially Fatima and her colleagues, ensured everything was perfectly maintained with great care and discretion. Our drivers were consistently reliable and courteous, making every journey smooth and enjoyable. We were also especially grateful for the othe concierge team’s help ( Friday) in retrieving our daughter’s forgotten glasses after an evening out—such thoughtful service meant a lot to us. The restaurant staff at breakfast, Ling Ling in the evening at the lounge, everyone- Thank You This was a holiday as it should be, comfortable and full of discoveries, Thank You for sharing Your beautiful culture with us, we felt incredibly welcomed. It is hard to describe how wonderful this hotel is. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable. To Christophe Porachio - amazing team. We look forward to returning."

"We were wowed by our Villa and the ambience of this resort. We did initially feel that bar and restaurant staff were abit all over the place, with slow attention to the details that matter / mixed up orders etc. However, we spoke to the Director of Food and Beverages, just to offer feedback, rather than complain. We were amazed by the instant attention, focus and changes he immediately put in place. And came away very impressed that he genuinely wanted to hear and address our findings, as opposed to just pacifying. As a result of his actions, we came away delighted with our experience here."
