PB hotel design editorial

Where the Mediterranean narrows toward the Strait of Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains descend to meet a crescent of pale Atlantic sand, a resort compound of whitewashed volumes rises above Restinga Beach with the unhurried confidence of a Moroccan coastal town translated into resort scale. The St. Regis La Bahia Blanca Resort Tamuda Bay draws its architectural language from the whitewashed vernacular of northern Morocco — flat-topped parapets, deep-set arched colonnades lining the pool terrace, wrought-iron balcony railings — arranged across five floors in a massing that steps and turns to maximize the bay views that define this stretch of Tamuda Bay's shoreline. The interiors negotiate the same meeting point between Moroccan craft tradition and contemporary resort comfort. Guest rooms are finished in herringbone-laid limestone flooring and layered with patterned rugs in dusty rose and cream, their four-poster beds canopied in white linen beneath pendant lanterns with a distinctly Moorish profile. The dining spaces push that cultural conversation further — black-framed arches frame a restaurant furnished with monochrome chevron bistro chairs and brass mid-century pendant clusters, teal drapery pulling the Mediterranean palette inward from the terrace beyond. Poolside, a line of dark-framed pergolas with white cushioned daybeds extends along the water's edge, palm trees planted at intervals that suggest permanence rather than decoration, the entire ensemble oriented toward a beach where Spain is close enough to feel present on the horizon.

"I spent four nights at the St. Regis La Bahia Blanca in Tamuda Bay - for me a joyful and elevated experience. The hotel has a soft, elegant character—light colours, textured fabrics, and a subtle signature scent throughout. There’s a clear nod to the brand’s origins, founded more than 120 years ago by Caroline Astor in New York. At times the atmosphere feels like "The Gilded Age" blended with a modern, polished "Devil Wears Prada 2" sensibility—classic in spirit, but fresh and contemporary in execution. All rooms offer direct sea views, which is a real luxury. Watching the sunrise from the balcony quickly became my favourite part of the day. The rooms are in excellent condition and still feel almost new. Breakfast on the terrace was consistently good, with a nice mix of Moroccan and French dishes. In the all-day restaurant, my personal tip is the fresh sea bass—perfectly prepared and especially good with mushroom risotto and a glass of Moroccan red wine. The team is young, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Many staff members come from different regions of Morocco, and chatting with them added a very personal touch to the stay. The new General Manager is highly present and clearly shaping a motivated, guest-focused team. Small hiccups did occur, but they were handled immediately and with such a positive attitude that they barely registered as issues. I also recommend the spa: beautifully designed, calm, and suitable for both women and men. Overall, this stretch of coastline—and the hotel—feels like a real discovery, especially in the quieter season. I’m leaving with a bit of reluctance and would happily return."
