PB hotel design editorial

Perched above the medina on Tangier's forested outer hills, where the city dissolves into eucalyptus and pine before the land drops toward the Strait of Gibraltar, the Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier commands a position that Moroccan royalty once claimed for their own. The property was originally built as a royal palace — its whitewashed arcaded facades, green-tiled pavilion roofs, and grand colonnaded wings visible from across the city in the early light — before being converted into a 133-room hotel. That palatial scale, rare in contemporary hospitality, gives the building its authority: this is a place that was never designed to feel like a hotel, and the conversion wisely preserves that quality. The interiors work a considered tension between Andalusian-Moroccan craft tradition and contemporary comfort. Guestrooms are finished in warm oak millwork with hand-carved plaster cornices running at ceiling height, the headboards inlaid with deep cobalt zellige-inspired medallion patterns against cream plaster, brass pendant lights shaped like traditional Moroccan vessels flanking arched mirrors. Balconies framed by intricately latticed mashrabiya screens open onto sweeping views over the city and the surrounding hills. The restaurant deploys a glazed roof lantern over a long communal table lit by cascading brass ring pendants, the floor shifting from dark oak to white Calacatta marble — a room that sits closer to a contemporary European brasserie than the riad aesthetic the bedroom floors invoke, giving the property a deliberate range.

Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier Reviews

"We had the distinct pleasure of cooking alongside Chef Ouadia Benmazhar and his associate chef Karim (a). We arrived to warm smiles and extreme professionalism. After a few minutes we all laughed, chopped, marinated and bonded over our lack of knife skills and Chef Ouadia’s profound talent. We made tasty traditional Moroccan dishes. Once we were done the staff set us up at a beautiful table and the food we created was served in a three course meal. By the way- the finished product was delicious. This is a spectacular way to learn about Moroccan culture and cuisine. To have a chance to learn alongside Chef Ouadia and Karim (a), is truly a gift."

"Unparalleled Luxury and Service extraordinary 5-star hotel perched high in the hills of Tangier. From the warm greeting at arrival to the exceptional dining and cozy bar area, everything about this resort feels exclusive and peaceful. The staff was extremely attentive. We would like to especially recognize: • Wassim at the Front Desk who was very welcoming & showed us the hotel services; Karima during breakfast who was very pleasant; Majda at the Moroccan restaurant (Social Room) who provided great service, and food suggestions; and Nehza at the main floor bar lounge. Thank you to all of you and others at the front desk, and the breakfast room!"

"My stay at the Fairmont Tazi Palace was everything I was hoping it would be, a truly beautiful and relaxing experience. The staff in particular are all absolutely stellar and couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. I’d especially like to call out Yasmine and Abdullah for making each breakfast a highlight of my day! Try the mint tea, it’s an absolute treat 💚"
