PB hotel design editorial

Three canal-house facades stretching along Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, one of them carrying the carved inscription Kasteel van Aemstel above its Victorian brick gable, contain the 149 rooms of INK Hotel Amsterdam — a MGallery property whose entire design concept draws on the building's former life as the headquarters of the Dutch newspaper De Tijd. That editorial history runs through every surface: the lobby reception desk sits against a floor-to-ceiling installation of oversized letterpress type blocks in warm bronze-toned timber, the signage is chalked in newspaper-column hand, and guestroom walls carry hand-drawn cartographic illustrations of Amsterdam that feel lifted straight from a broadsheet's feature pages. Maciej Kurkowski and his team at interior design studio Sid Lee Architecture developed the concept with a typographer's precision, pairing dark graphite walls and poured resin floors with walnut joinery and brass detailing throughout. The rooms balance the editorial moodboard with genuine comfort — open-plan bathroom arrangements with polished chrome fittings set against gold-framed mirrors, and compact walnut shelving units stacked with paperbacks that reinforce the press-room atmosphere without tipping into theme-park literalism. In the restaurant, cobalt-blue curved chairs and marble-topped tables sit against a full-height walnut shelving wall, the palette warm enough to read as genuinely convivial. The building's varied roofline — stepped gable, flat cornice, pointed neo-Gothic peak — gives INK a street presence that few Amsterdam hotels of comparable scale can match.

INK Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Reviews

"Accessible to everything. Very close to train station. Indistinct from neighboring buildings. Uninteresting lobby. I loved the references to the building once having been home to a newspaper. Also the funny wall paper maps in the rooms. Highlights are the welcoming staff, the compact but well lighted rooms (221 is very quiet), and the restaurant that serves excellent pasta pesto and wines. There may be more charming hotels at same price point? But worked just fine."

"Amazing location right in the heart of Amsterdam! Easy to walk to attractions and a tram stop outside if you did not want to walk. Despite this room was quiet and we did not hear any excessive noise from outside. Room size was perfect for 2 people, very clean and plenty of water (big and small bottles in room). Bathroom (sink) was kind of open plan which was a surprise but actually was quite cool. Shower was very good, hot water and good pressure. Shout out to Clement on reception who gave us some great tips for the area and was just helpful in general - the whole reception team were in fact. Did not use restaurant this time but have done so in the past so know that it is fantastic too. 100% will stay again if we visit Amsterdam."

"This was a fabulous hotel with all staff being friendly, efficient and caring. The food was delicious and I tried lots of breakfast combinations during our 5 day stay. The only regrets for me was the strange bathroom arrangement with the total area on view from the bedroom. This may be fine for a young couple but I am over 70 and I would rather not be "on show" to my partner when I was shaving and stepping out of the shower. The air conditioning was noisy too but the room soundproofing was fabulous."
