PB hotel design editorial

At the junction of Stadhouderskade and Weteringschans, where Amsterdam's canal belt gives way to the Vondelpark quarter, a late-nineteenth-century corner building crowned by a verdigris copper cupola has anchored this intersection for well over a century. The structure's dark brick base, white-painted stone detailing, and oriel windows place it firmly in the Dutch neo-Renaissance tradition, the octagonal tower punctuating the roofline with a civic confidence that no surrounding building quite matches. Park Centraal Amsterdam fills this landmark shell across seven floors and around 189 rooms, threading a contemporary interior sensibility through the original bones with varying degrees of success depending on which part of the hotel you find yourself in. The guest rooms visible in the images work a consistent palette of deep slate blue, ochre yellow, and warm walnut — pendant lights in smoked glass, leather-seated timber chairs, and patterned lounge chairs scaled for compact urban rooms. The bar area makes a bolder statement: a faceted bronze-mirrored ceiling installation cascades above a black granite counter, the floor laid in a geometric parquet of terracotta and dark timber that shifts the atmosphere closer to 1970s Milan than canal-side Amsterdam. The restaurant takes the opposite approach — floor-to-ceiling glazing, white Flos-style articulated task lights, and floral-upholstered chairs in a retro print that keeps the room feeling light and unpretentious, the street sliding past just beyond the glass.

Park Centraal Amsterdam Reviews

"I'll never stay anywhere else in Amsterdam. The hotel, the neighbourhood and especially the staff (shout out to Jazmin for being particularly helpful) are awesome. The room was perfect, the breakfast was ideal and the bar is a bar I would go to even if it wasn't in my hotel. Alan is an amazing/professional bartender. It's so easy to get anywhere in the city and the location is ideal."

"This is our second stay at the hotel, we love the location and find everywhere walkable or the tram is so close by. Hotel rooms are beautiful and good views."

"On the face of it, Park Centraal is a good looking hotel. It's quirky interior is both modern and stylish. However, the room was disappointing. The list of minor issues made our stay less than perfect. The lighting in the room (253) was haphazard. There was only one bedside light and this was barely useable to read from. There was no main light but rather a very bright and garish three-bulb floor standing lamp which could only be controlled by a foot switch. One side of the bed had no socket to charge a phone from and the kettle wasn't usuable unless you moved a small table to a corner of the room to plug it in. On top of all this the double-bed was actually twin beds pushed together leaving an unpleasant gap in the middle. For a 4-star hotel this was sadly substandard. I've stayed in many hotels around Europe and if this is the quality of the accomodation then I can't recommend it."

"Great location , you can walk to the museums and other areas of interest within 20 mins or so . The rooms are not very big but clean and modern , nice showers. We originally had a room on first floor but the street noise was too much but they moved us to another floor which was no trouble. Staff were friendly and helpful .Did eat at restaurant attached to hotel which was excellent but very expensive"
