"Whilst in a great location on the Herengracht this is pretty much all that is positive about the hotel which has prioritised style over service. Double charge on debit card - on check in a hold was placed on my card the full amount plus deposit for our stay however we were not told that on check out the full amount would be charged again and therefore to expect double the charge to my account whilst the release was actioned by the bank which could be up to a week. This resulted in us being without access to any money on our last day as my account was overdrawn. This could have been avoided if I had been told at check in. I was unable to get hold of my bank to release the charge until late afternoon leaving us without any ability to buy food or a drink until then. Despite the manager acknowledging this should have been explained and they were sorry this had happened no other help was offered. Poor signage - The entrance is difficult to find as it is the cafe that is signposted at the entrance door. Restricted access room - While the room at the back of the hotel was perfectly adequate there was no warning at check in that the bathroom was up a short but steep flight of steps so it was lucky my daughter and I were fit and able and managed not to break our necks on the slippy steps down - I would expect reception to check that the guests booked into this room were able to cope before allocating the room. Poor response to room service - as the room and bathroom were cold we asked for room service and fresh towels as there was no way they would dry without a heated towel rail. Room service came but no clean towels. We had to ask reception twice before they arrived."

"Great location, lacking atmosphere. I wasn’t aware that the main bar was shut for renovations and without that the common areas…which don’t really have any architectural features, just felt like a few average dining areas. Rooms were nice but lacked detailing you’d expect…only a full on light in the bathroom which with glazed door meant full light exposure at night for example if one person is trying to sleep. And don’t even try and use the stairs…impossible it seems to get from floors to reception on them!"

"Great hotel in an excellent location in central Amsterdam. Smart, trendy and 'hip' it attracts a generally younger clientele which adds to the cool vibe. Brilliant staff (reception particularly), and thoughtfully well furnished rooms. We found the restaurant 'Lottis' a bit hit and miss, but that could just have been us. All in all thoroughly recommended !"

"We had a really pleasant stay at The Hoxton overall. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we had a fantastic night’s sleep, and we really enjoyed the hotel and atmosphere. The only disappointment was that neither the television nor the radio in our room worked throughout our two-night stay. We did report this and a member of the maintenance team came to take a look during the day, but unfortunately the issue wasn’t resolved before we left. We were kindly offered a complimentary soft drink on departure by way of apology, which was a thoughtful gesture and appreciated. It was a shame not to have these facilities available for the duration of the stay, particularly as they are part of what we had paid for. We otherwise had a lovely experience and would happily stay again."

"Wow we have had the best time in Amsterdam! ☺️ This was a perfect hotel for us. Beautiful, stylish, clean, lots of space, friendly staff, great location - it’s right next to the tram stop which is so handy - it’s very easy to get around. Rooms: The rooms are spacious and stylish. The bed is very comfortable- I feel like I slept well, and loved the blacked out curtains. The hotel room also has a fan (no aircon) but the Dyson fan was powerful enough to keep us cool. The bathroom was gorgeous, clean, powerful shower. Location: The hotel is pretty close to get to everything you will want to see because of the tram, but it’s also far enough away that it is lovely and quiet. So I’d say it’s perfect location. Also the tram is very easy to use (scan Apple Pay when you get on, and again when you get off - that’s it! Very affordable too). Staff: The staff were very friendly and were happy to help us with extra oat milks and tea bags for the hotel rooms so we could enjoy tea (typical Brits- we love our tea🙈). Food: Breakfast at the hotel is a buffet with English breakfast style choices, yogurts, bread, toast, croissants, juices, teas. Very nice! We also had an evening meal which was gorgeous. Shout out to our wonderful waitress Lieke who gave us such good service and was so friendly. Thank you! Pretty cool Photo Booth when you walk into the hotel too which we used and got some cool pics. Toilets in the hotel were so clean! 5/5 great place to stay while in Amsterdam."
