PB hotel design editorial

Planted along the Shatti Al-Qurum beachfront where Muscat's diplomatic quarter meets the Gulf of Oman, W Muscat opened in 2018 as the brand's first foothold in Oman — a market that had resisted the W formula's studied irreverence longer than most of the Gulf. The nine-storey building, arranged in an angular V-shape that opens toward the sea, frames an elaborate multi-level pool landscape below: cascading blue-tiled water terraces, cabana pavilions with geometric steel canopies, and planted islands of date palms stepping down to a private beach. At night the pool deck glows with saturated violet and cobalt uplighting, lending the sandstone-toned facade a quality closer to a Venetian palazzo seen through Instagram than anything from classical Omani architecture. The interiors navigate a more interesting tension — borrowing the visual vocabulary of Islamic geometric ornament and then pushing it through the W brand's maximalist sensibility. Guest rooms arrive with black-framed four-poster beds, swirling graphic rugs in magenta and charcoal, and headboards rendered as oversized arabesque medallions in cobalt tilework. Plaster ceiling rosettes lifted from traditional Omani craftwork reappear in white relief above the beds, while pendant lanterns — pierced metal tear-drop forms derived from mashrabiya screens — hang in clusters throughout the rooftop bar, where curved modular seating platforms face out across the Arabian Sea at dusk. The effect is deliberately theatrical, the heritage references absorbed into the brand's playbook rather than treated with curatorial restraint.

"Iftar at W Muscat is highly recommended. The venue is spacious and offers a wide variety of buffet options, making it a perfect place to gather with friends for a special occasion. The food selection is diverse and delicious, especially the sushi, live grilled meat and seafood, shawarma, live pasta, and a variety of sweet Arabic and international desserts. The beautiful view and the friendly staff made the atmosphere very comfortable and enjoyable. It was a truly lovely iftar experience and definitely worth trying."

"I’ve recently stayed in this marvelous hotel celebrating my Mother’s birthday as she has chosen Oman and Muscat for her special holiday. Our time spent in the hotel was truly enjoyable and memorable. W Muscat is most certainly one of the best places to stay in the capital of Oman. We loved the bold and luxurious design of our room as well as the public areas of the hotel. The maintenance team are absolutely outstanding in their job - it’s not very often that I have nothing to criticize when it comes to the quality of room service and cleaning standards. And these were truly exceptional. Every day our room was kept in immaculate condition, with fresh towels and bottled water provided as well as nice little touches like chocolate pralines left on the bedside in the evening. Breakfast buffet was another highlight that we loved and always took our time to indulge in this morning routine. During our stay at the hotel we have also visited the rooftop Siddharta Lounge 3 times and loved its chilled atmosphere, decor and the choice of music played there. The list of cocktails was a bit short, probably due to Ramadan restrictions, however we still managed to find something tasty and refreshing we liked. Staff in Siddharta Lounge were always friendly and relaxed and they quickly became aware of what we liked. “W”hotel has 2 fantastic pools and we particularly enjoyed our shorter visits to the rooftop infinity one, that also offers great panoramic views of Qurum Beach and parts of Muscat. One would most definitely like this pool to be accessible for longer during the day, as the use of the main pool on the ground level was sometimes less enjoyable because of loud and disruptive behavior of certain guests (mainly families with kids) who were unfortunately ignorant of other customers around. For this reason and given the overall design theme, I think “W Muscat” should have a separate “Adult Only” area, where older customers would not have to listen to screaming kids and their sometimes silly guardians. I’ve also noticed that the pool service staff on duty were trying to do something about this situation, however with certain difficulties for which they should not be blamed. Despite a couple of occasional lapses, the Wet Deck services and the quality of food offered, were also very good. “W Muscat”enjoys a prime location in the centre of Qurum Beach with a long seaside promenade, perfect for morning or evening walks and the majestic, state-of-the-art Royal Opera House (most definitely worth visiting) is literally next door. There’s also great underground parking garage with valet service provided. Thank you to all staff for working so well to ensure their guests best experience. Ours was certainly memorable!"
