PB hotel design editorial

Wedged between the Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman in a bay accessible only by boat, zipline, or a winding mountain pass, Six Senses Zighy Bay was conceived from the outset as a village rather than a resort — a gathering of low-rise stone and mud-render structures that mirrors the traditional Omani fishing settlements along this stretch of the Musandam Peninsula. The 82 pool villas spread across the site in a loose, unhurried arrangement, their rough-textured lime-plastered walls and hand-laid fieldstone boundaries designed to read as settled into the landscape rather than imposed upon it, as though they had been there for generations before any guest arrived. Inside, the architecture carries that same deliberate restraint. Ceilings are framed with heavy timber beams and woven barasti palm fronds — a construction method drawn directly from traditional Gulf vernacular — while floors alternate between worn local stone and warm timber planking. Furniture is dark-stained solid wood kept low and angular, upholstered in saffron and terracotta, and the plaster walls are left rough rather than smoothed to a hotel finish. At the pool terrace, where the kidney-shaped water is edged in pale travertine and framed by date palms against the sheer rock face behind, the drama is entirely geological. The outdoor dining deck at dusk, lit by lanterns and pendant bamboo shades, pulls the whole composition together — a setting that earns its atmosphere through material honesty rather than theatrical gesture.

"Since i had wanted to come here for so long i was a bit worried i'd be disappointed but i needn't have worried as it lived up to all my expectations and more. This place is fabulous. The minute we arrived i could feel how relaxing it was. The welcome was friendly and we were given a tour of the property by our GEM before heading to our room. The rooms are very spacious with lots of lovely amenities and i particularly loved the outdoor shower. They had kindly arranged a welcome birthday cake along with some interesting juice mocktails. The villa's pool was great and even though we weren't front row you can hear the waves from the comfort of your private area. The beach was pristine and the sea refreshing despite the heat at this time of the year. Free ice cream is a nice touch. The salt water pool is amazing for your skin. Both our meals were exceptional with a preference for Spice Market - so incredibly tasty- which was also the location for breakast which had an amazing choice. My massage at the spa was probably one of the best i have ever had. Some activities were not available due to the current situation but after 2 months of stress in the UAE, Zighy Bay allowed us to reset and breath calmly again. There are many posts about how expensive it is - yes it is expensive but not much more than similar places in Dubai and it was all worth every penny. I hope i will be able to go back one day."

"Our stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience — the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left. From the moment you arrive, you feel as though you’ve discovered a hidden world tucked between dramatic mountains and the sea. The resort’s quaintness is part of its magic. It never feels overwhelming or commercial — instead, it feels intimate, soulful, and deeply personal. Each villa seems as if it were handcrafted by a group of local artisans, with thoughtful textures, natural materials, and design details that celebrate Omani heritage. There is an authenticity here that is rare and beautiful. You genuinely feel like you are on the edge of the earth — completely able to check out from the outside world and simply exist in the moment. The attention to detail is exquisite. Every corner, every pathway, every carefully curated experience reflects intention and care. Their emphasis on sustainability is not just a talking point — it is woven seamlessly into the design, operations, and philosophy of the resort. Luxury and responsibility coexist effortlessly here. The food is exceptional. Every meal feels like an event, yet never pretentious — just deeply flavorful, beautifully presented, and crafted with heart. The service matches the cuisine: warm, intuitive, and genuinely kind. A must-do experience is paragliding with Itso — soaring over the bay and descending toward the resort is exhilarating and breathtaking beyond words. It perfectly captures the spirit of adventure and beauty that defines Zighy Bay. What truly elevates this property, however, is its people. Taha, our GEM host, was incredible. Attentive, thoughtful, and endlessly helpful, he anticipated our needs before we even voiced them. We truly feel like we made a friend and hope to see him one day at his home resort, Six Senses Kaplankaya. Stephanie at Zingy Bar makes you feel like you are part of the Six Senses family from the very first interaction. She is always smiling, laughing, and radiating warmth — the kind of presence that instantly lifts your spirit. Chakra, our server at dinner and sometimes breakfast, was beyond friendly and attentive. His genuine kindness and professionalism made every meal even more special. We cannot say enough about the friendly staff and the unbelievably beautiful setting. There is a dreamlike quality to Zighy Bay — as if you’ve stepped into a place that shouldn’t quite exist. And when it’s time to leave, you find yourself wishing the dream would never end. Six Senses Zighy Bay is not just a resort. It is an experience, a feeling, a memory etched into your heart forever."

"We came to the Six Senses hotel for the first time. Starting from the very warm traditional welcome and to saying goodbye , we felt like we were th emits exclusive guests. I had my birthday celebration at the hotel. The team, headed by managers and our own amazing banker Taha, did everything possible to make it the most private, delicious and happy evening . The villas are very comfortable and all details are accounted for. Spa was amazing with very experienced Ayurvedic masters and yoga practitioners we felt the bliss. They even organised a singing bowls session for the family and kids . The beach and pool are also very clean and comfortable. Dinners are very diverse and amazing. Thank you for the whole team."
