PB hotel design editorial

Panama City's financial district skyline at night tells you something about the country's ambitions — towers of dark glass packed together along Calle 50, each competing for height and reflectivity. W Panama, set within one such tower in the Marbella neighbourhood, leans into that energy rather than softening it, its all-glass curtain wall catching and fragmenting the city lights in the exterior image here like a mirror turned on itself. Inside, the design deploys the W brand's characteristic layering of local cultural reference over an international contemporary framework. The guest rooms are fitted with light ash wood-effect floors, platform beds with under-lighting in warm amber, and woven rattan pendant lights that appear throughout — a motif borrowed loosely from Panamanian craft tradition — alongside upholstered swivel chairs in red-and-white geometric fabric that punctuate the otherwise white-and-black palette. The mola-inspired cushion details on the beds nod toward the textile traditions of the Guna people. At the elevated restaurant, floor-to-ceiling glazing frames the downtown towers at dusk, with banks of those same tiered rattan pendants suspended at varying heights above burnt-orange banquette seating and tan leather dining chairs. The rooftop wet deck carries blue sun loungers and louvered white cabanas against the full panorama of the city's vertical spread — a configuration that makes the skyline itself the primary design gesture.

"I would like to take time to say hands down MY FAVORITE HOTEL IN PANAMA. This was a quick weekend getaway with my daughter and I can say one word MARVELOUS. From the moment you walked in the aroma said it all , this is where you need to be. From check in to check out was top notch. Lets start with check in, it was flawless and without any issues. The front desk staff was very attentive to all my needs and concerns .Never once did I feel that they were not ready to make sure me or my daughter felt at home. Now lets move over to dining. I went to breakfast each morning and Ricardo the manager made sure we greeted each other each morning and had my table overlooking the city ready for me each morning. Carlos was my attendent( i do not like using server) each morning along with his coworkers who helped him bring items to the table. Another honorable mention goes out to Ricardo for personally preparing my cortado and other specialty coffees each morning. What impresses me the most is how they really pay attention to detail and remember what you order. The last day they actually had our table set up with a handwritten message on the glass saying enjoy your breakfast Mr Mike and Ms Johnson(my daughter) along with a plate of fruit that we always made each day. Carlos then proceeded to tell us without asking our order of omelettes and what we put in it. If i can rate that 1-10 it would be 12. Last but not least the bartenders at the pool bar were the icing on the cake. Miguel made some of the best old fashions and Im sorry i didnt get the other bartenders name but he was working Saturday May 16th and made the best caprihina I have ever tasted. That was my daughters go to drink each day he worked. Please let him know I gave him a shout out. Thank you W Panama, I will be seeing you again soon ."

"Outstanding five star service. The staff here is really remarkable. Great location -- Walkable to many restaurants and stores, both north to Via Argentina or two blocks SW to Calle Uruguay. (Minor issues: Some rooms can be a little noisy due to thin walls; Lobby is on the 15th Floor so you don't get that nice vibe walking in off the street, and you don't see the front desk or staff as you're coming and going because you bypass the lobby)."

"We had high hopes that the W would be Wonderful. It could have been, but unfortunately it was the worst hotel stay we've ever experienced in 25+ years of being Marriott Bonvoy members. First the good: Location is convenient to Metro line; Hotel is in a modern building; Breakfast was very good. The bad: TV did not initially work, and when it did, the volume barely worked; On our second night there, the phone kept ringing at 2am. Thinking it was someone trying to reach the wrong room, the first couple of calls were ignored. My wife finally answered and it was the front desk calling accusing us of smoking in the room and that it would be a $500 charge. We DON'T smoke and never have. Ironically, there was the smell of pot in the hallway when we returned to our room at around 8pm, so someone was smoking somewhere. We think it's great that the hotel takes smoking seriously, but to falsely accuse (and at 2AM) is unexcusable. Because the hotel was so insistant that smoke was coming from our room we granted them access to confirm it wasn't us. If we hadn't had done this, they were going to charge us (their "system" told them it was definitely our room). Then on the third night, guests in the room next to ours woke us up at around 4:30am as they appeared to have just returned from partying. I recorded about a minute of the loud noises so the hotel would not think we were making this up, but staff were already in the hallway listening as someone else must have called to complain. There is some recovery credit due, as after the first incident, Jennifer the GM, did offer to move us to a suite to compensate for the misunderstanding. It was an appreciated gesture, but my wife didn't want to pack up to change rooms. And after the second incident the following night, we were offered Bonvoy points, but after six weeks and a follow up with the hotel, no points have yet to be given. We had high hopes for the W, and were hoping to be able to provide a glowing review. Paul, who works the front desk, was very understanding and very personable. We know he will go far in his career and hope that Marriott takes good care of him. Just unfortunate that we most likely would not take a chance by staying here again."

"The W Panama is one of the best Marriott’s I’ve stayed in. The hotel is located in a great area and the views are spectacular. It gets better though. More than the views, the best part of the hotel is the staff. From before I arrived, to check in and my entire stay they went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The three staff members that helped make my time the best were Paul, Kevin, and Analia! They went out of their way to provide exceptional service."
