PB hotel design editorial

Panama City's financial district skyline at night tells you something about the country's ambitions — towers of dark glass packed together along Calle 50, each competing for height and reflectivity. W Panama, set within one such tower in the Marbella neighbourhood, leans into that energy rather than softening it, its all-glass curtain wall catching and fragmenting the city lights in the exterior image here like a mirror turned on itself. Inside, the design deploys the W brand's characteristic layering of local cultural reference over an international contemporary framework. The guest rooms are fitted with light ash wood-effect floors, platform beds with under-lighting in warm amber, and woven rattan pendant lights that appear throughout — a motif borrowed loosely from Panamanian craft tradition — alongside upholstered swivel chairs in red-and-white geometric fabric that punctuate the otherwise white-and-black palette. The mola-inspired cushion details on the beds nod toward the textile traditions of the Guna people. At the elevated restaurant, floor-to-ceiling glazing frames the downtown towers at dusk, with banks of those same tiered rattan pendants suspended at varying heights above burnt-orange banquette seating and tan leather dining chairs. The rooftop wet deck carries blue sun loungers and louvered white cabanas against the full panorama of the city's vertical spread — a configuration that makes the skyline itself the primary design gesture.

"Wonderful hotel. Some of the best customer service I have ever encountered. I have to drop names because customer service is so important and it is so hard to find. Alexis- male check in staff. Very very professional, kind and efficient. Willing to help at any cost. Harold- works In the area neat check in that serves the buffet. He was very kind and super super helpful. Rooms were absolutely stunning. We upgraded to the room with a tub- floor to veil on windows and a large shower. (Rm. 1901) I will return. 100% I only have one negative comment sadly- the bartender at the pool bar, ISAAC, was NOT AT ALL FRIENDLY. No smile, no charm, not interested in talking to anyone, not helpful . It made me not want to swim : ( Other than that experience, I highly recommend the W PANAMA."

"I recently stayed at W Panama and had a mixed experience. **Check-in experience** I arrived about 10 minutes before the posted 3pm check-in time. I was told my room wasn’t ready, which I completely understood since I was slightly early. The staff kindly gave me a complimentary drink card and asked for a little time. Shortly after 3pm, I checked again and was told the room was still being cleaned and would be ready in about 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I asked again and was told the same thing - that the room was still being cleaned. At that point I asked to speak with a manager. The manager explained that the room had been occupied by a premier guest who is allowed to check out as late as 4pm. My question was simple: if previous guests can check out at 4pm, why does the website advertise a 3pm check-in time, and why wasn’t the real reason for the delay communicated earlier? While the manager empathized with my frustration, I didn’t receive a clear explanation. After more than an hour of waiting, the room finally became available. Breakfast was comped during my stay as a gesture, which I appreciated, although by that point I was exhausted from a long day of travel and just wanted to settle in. **The room** The large yellow entrance doors are fantastic and make a strong first impression. When you enter, there’s a mirror and a small floating shelf. However, the foyer area is quite large and feels empty. A painting, plant, or some furniture would make the entrance feel warmer and more intentional. As it is, the space feels unfinished and takes away from the room’s overall design. **The tub** The bathtub is huge, and its size was actually the main reason I chose this room. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to soak comfortably because there’s nothing to keep you from floating when leaning back against the pillow. The size is impressive, but the usability could be improved. **The shower** The shower is also very large, but again the design feels incomplete. With that much space, additional hooks for towels or bathing suits would have been very useful. A shower bench would also have been a great addition. Instead of having to lower the shades, frosted windows would make the experience far more pleasant because of natural light. The small drain is also a design flaw; water drains slowly and begins pooling around your feet during a shower. **The food** Unfortunately, nothing I ordered through room service was satisfactory. The food tasted as though very little seasoning was used. Even the pizza was subpar and lacked flavor. Breakfast was fine mainly because of the smoked salmon and eggs. I can’t speak to the meat items since I’m a pescatarian. **The hotel overall** The property feels like it needs a refresh. The furniture, the pool area, and some of the décor look dated and would benefit from an upgrade. **The good** The staff were the highlight of the stay. Everyone I encountered was pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. While I appreciated the service from the staff, the design flaws, food quality, and overall condition of the property mean I would likely choose a different hotel on my next visit to Panama City. Oh, the congestion from the traffic during peak hours is incredible."

"We booked another hotel and were very disappointed. So we decided to check out the W. Christian Gonzalez took the time to show us different rooms before we felt comfortable canceling at our original hotel and moving to the W. I was very surprised to learn that he is a fairly new employee. Christian has excellent guest services skills and knows how to go above and beyond! He made a difference to us throughout our stay. Our room was very nice and the location is very convenient."

"My wife and I took a quick 4 day trip to Panama City from frigid NJ during Valentine's Day Weekend. The hotel is 20 minutes by Uber from the airport. We stayed in corner suite which is large room with great standup shower on 19th floor. The room has ceiling to floor glass windows including the shower. The room is very modern with 2 big screen tvs. The staff during check-in was top notch and we went smoothly into the room as we arrived at 10pm. The pool area which is located off the looby and restaurant (15th floor I think). The pool area was very laid back with some reggaeton music in the background and small but nice city views. The restaurant had a great breakfast buffet with tradition American and Panamanian dishes and breads. The dinner menue was lacking but the staff really attentive and provided really nice service."
