PB hotel design editorial

The street facade tells the story before you step inside: Inca stonework at the base, precisely fitted without mortar, gives way to colonial Spanish masonry above, the whole composition crowned by a carved pink andesite portal that dates to the seventeenth century. Palacio Nazarenas, which Belmond opened in 2012 after extensive restoration of this former convent and colonial mansion in Cusco's centro histórico, is built on Inca foundations that still form the lower courses of its perimeter walls — a layering of civilisations that no new-build could manufacture. The 55 suites are arranged around multiple courtyards, the older of which retain the whitewashed arcaded galleries, terracotta-tiled balustrades, and dark timber columns visible in the images, geraniums massed in clay pots along the upper corridors in a tradition that feels entirely uncontrived. The interiors take their cue from the Spanish colonial casona rather than reaching for Andean exoticism. Four-poster beds with wrought-iron frames sit on handmade terracotta tile floors, carved walnut headboards and faded kilim-style rugs grounding the rooms in local craft without folklorism. The pool courtyard introduces a contemporary note — cobalt blue mosaic tile, teal parasols, wrought-iron café chairs — while the surrounding arched colonnade and upper timber balcony keep the ensemble anchored in its sixteenth-century shell. Andean mountain ranges frame the balcony views beyond the rooftiles, a reminder that the altitude here sits just above 3,400 metres.

"Lovely hotel with excellent service. They offer a complimentary pisco sour class in your room which was convenient- we had Saul helping us there and Edgar as our butler, both professional and friendly. Great location with proximity to restaurants and the main plaza."

"The property was beautiful with lots of courtyards and a warm pool. Our room—a suite overlooking the pool—was spacious, with a large bathroom and walk-in closet. We had a great experience doing the tea tasting with Saul. We also enjoyed making the herbal remedies in the spa—a free activity in a beautiful location that was very calming. The staff at the hotel, especially our butler Freddie, were all excellent and eager to help and make our stay easier. Freddie even walked us to dinner one night, and the hotel handed us umbrellas any time it was raining. The food by the pool was great too. And everywhere we ate—including Mauka, the fanciest restaurant—they were extremely accommodating, even willing to serve things from other menus around the property or dishes not listed on any menu. However, it is worth noting that the breakfast, unlike at Monestario, is not a buffet. But when we asked to switch our included breakfast to Monestario, they were extremely accommodating. Overall, we had a very pleasant experienced that was enhanced by the wonderful staff."

"We had stayed at Monastario 15 yrs ago and tried this Belmond in Cusco and can not praise the staff and management enough. Wonderful and authentic experience and the food rooms be service were excellent. As for Belmond group as a whole/LVMH, their lack of response was very concerning. We tried to book our whole 2 wk Peru trip with Belmond for 8 people and never even heard back from the Lima office. We will question staying in other Belmonds going forward after another issue with the booking process but will always come back to this special place in Cusco."

"Our stay at the Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco was nothing short of exceptional, and it turned into a truly unforgettable birthday trip thanks to your incredible team. Every detail felt thoughtfully handled, and the level of personalized service consistently exceeded expectations. Edgar, the lead butler, did a phenomenal job coordinating our trip to Machu Picchu on the Belmond train—everything was seamless, stress-free, and perfectly executed. Fredy and Gustavo, our butlers, were equally outstanding—attentive, warm, and always one step ahead in anticipating our needs. They made us feel completely at home while also delivering a luxury experience at the highest level. Yoshira in the restaurant provided impeccable service throughout—gracious, attentive, and a pleasure to interact with. Each meal felt elevated because of her care and professionalism. Erick and Noe from room service were equally impressive: prompt, friendly, and consistently ensuring everything was perfect. A special highlight was the spa experience with Miluska. Her massage was truly exceptional—relaxing, restorative, and delivered with great skill. It was a standout moment of the trip. Overall, the team created a seamless, warm, and memorable experience that made my birthday celebration incredibly special. The hospitality here is world-class, and it’s clear the staff takes great pride in what they do. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Cusco."
