PB hotel design editorial

The street facade tells the story before you step inside: Inca stonework at the base, precisely fitted without mortar, gives way to colonial Spanish masonry above, the whole composition crowned by a carved pink andesite portal that dates to the seventeenth century. Palacio Nazarenas, which Belmond opened in 2012 after extensive restoration of this former convent and colonial mansion in Cusco's centro histórico, is built on Inca foundations that still form the lower courses of its perimeter walls — a layering of civilisations that no new-build could manufacture. The 55 suites are arranged around multiple courtyards, the older of which retain the whitewashed arcaded galleries, terracotta-tiled balustrades, and dark timber columns visible in the images, geraniums massed in clay pots along the upper corridors in a tradition that feels entirely uncontrived. The interiors take their cue from the Spanish colonial casona rather than reaching for Andean exoticism. Four-poster beds with wrought-iron frames sit on handmade terracotta tile floors, carved walnut headboards and faded kilim-style rugs grounding the rooms in local craft without folklorism. The pool courtyard introduces a contemporary note — cobalt blue mosaic tile, teal parasols, wrought-iron café chairs — while the surrounding arched colonnade and upper timber balcony keep the ensemble anchored in its sixteenth-century shell. Andean mountain ranges frame the balcony views beyond the rooftiles, a reminder that the altitude here sits just above 3,400 metres.

Palacio Nazarenas, A Belmond Hotel Reviews

"Where do I even begin? If TripAdvisor allowed 10 stars, Palacio Nazarenas would earn every single one. This is hands down the best hotel service I have ever experienced. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted by name with genuine warmth and offered tea to help us acclimate to Cusco’s altitude. The staff here operates on another level. They anticipate your needs before you even realize you have them, always gracious, always smiling, always one step ahead. I’m gluten-free and the options were delicious. A few moments that truly stood out: when I needed something from a pharmacy, they offered to pick it up for me without hesitation. And when I accidentally left a personal item at a sister property in another city, the team arranged to have it transported to me. My stay at Palacio Nazarenas is an experience I’ll remember. I cannot recommend it highly enough."

"Part 2 of our holiday started in Cusco - in a hotel that used to be the Palace of the last Emperor of the Incas! This is Belmond Palacio Nazarenas - where oxygen is pumped into each room. We are truly gobsmacked - everything here is excuisite - and how could it not be - it’s belmond after all. This hotel is focused on incredible personal service - we even have a butler. And The Hotel features the city’s first (and largest) outdoor heated swimming pool, located in a restored, historic cloistered terrace Truly remarkable. The attention to detail and each and every staff member - probabbly tge most attentative team i have ever encountered at a hotel. I can HIGHLY recommend them. The food and beverage service was superb (that breakfast!!). The hotel interior is incredibly authentic and beautiful."
