PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of one of Barranco's most storied streets, a two-storey Republican-era mansion — its white stucco facade dressed with Ionic columns, ornamental balustrades, and a carved cartouche at the roofline — carries the atmosphere of early twentieth-century Lima with a composure that most conversions chase and rarely achieve. Hotel B, which opened in 2013 inside this 1914 belle époque residence, was conceived as a kind of intimate art hotel: seventeen rooms arranged around the original floor plan, with the building's high ceilings, louvered French doors, and wide-plank hardwood floors preserved as the primary design gesture rather than dressed over. The interiors, led by the Lima-based team behind the project, work a palette of tobacco, plum, and warm ivory — tufted velvet armchairs in aubergine, olive-green button-back sofas set against zebra-print rugs, and oversized ceramic lamp bases glazed in amber gold. Rooms carry dark timber four-poster frames and crystal-stacked bedside lamps beside walnut writing desks, the proportions generous enough that the art — drawn largely from the contemporary Peruvian scene — can breathe against the chalk-white walls. The bar anchors the ground floor with bentwood café chairs around marble-top tables, a long walnut counter backed by a large figurative canvas that has the energy of a Lima jazz club circa 1960. The building's civic confidence and the interiors' eclectic warmth hold each other in productive tension throughout.

"Great hotel, located in the iconic barranco neighborhood in Lima. Lots of things to see and do within walking distance. The staff is super friendly at the hotel. The food is great, especially breakfast. And the rooms are beautiful. Each unique and with its own character. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Lima and wanting to avoid the corporate hotels."

"A truly unique hotel and all you'd expect from a Chateau & Relais. My daughter and I spent 3 nights here in the middle of a 5 week trip in Peru and enjoyed it immensely. Our room was a good size with an amazing bathroom. Our breakfast was included and was truly delicious, the staff were so friendly and kind. Our Spanish is virtually non existent but everyone spoke fantastic English. We had a wonderful dinner the first night but the highlight was out cocktail class where we learned the history and how to make 3 Peruvian drinks our bar lady was really great"

"Beautiful hotel in a safe neighborhood. This is a renovated former mansion packed full of eclectic art. We stayed here one night after a Lima tour and before flying out the next morning. The food was very good and they even packed us a breakfast to take with us on our way to the airport. Staff were very friendly and helpful (except the gift shop employee). Room was very comfortable and quiet."

"The "B" stands for Best in Barranco area and Lima!. From the front door staff ( always attentive) to the front desk, uber talented bartenders( Best Pisco options in Peru) Hotel B is THE place to stay when visiting Lima. The area is safe, comfortable for walking and offers a plethora of local restaurants....but you might just want to eat all your meals in the Hotel. The best dinner we had of 3 was at the Hotel. relative, fresh, and service spot on. Try to get one of the two tables on the little balcony. Room was VERY clean, large and stocked with whatever you needed. A true oasis in the traffic jammed city of Lima."
