PB hotel design editorial

Scattered across four hectares of the Sacred Valley floor, where the Andes rise sharply on all sides and the air carries the altitude of 2,800 metres, the casita village that forms Sol y Luna was conceived not as a conventional hotel but as a Peruvian hacienda fragmented into landscape. The Belgian-born founder Marilú Languasco commissioned a design that drew its material logic from the valley itself — fieldstone walls quarried locally, terracotta roof tiles pitched against the mountain backdrop, rendered adobe facades painted in the saturated ochres and corals that reference Andean textile tradition rather than Iberian colonial precedent. Inside, each of the 40-odd casitas functions as a small private dwelling, the interiors distinguished by large-format murals commissioned from Peruvian artists — works depicting maize, birds, and pre-Columbian iconography in the purple, amber, and burnt orange palette that runs consistently through the property. Dark carved timber bed frames, hand-knotted Andean rugs in lavender and saffron stripes, and terracotta tile floors ground the rooms in regional craft. The restaurant amplifies the same vocabulary: rough-hewn eucalyptus columns, exposed beamed ceilings, a domed adobe bread oven glowing at the room's centre, and a wrought-iron spiral stair connecting the mezzanine above. At dusk, the pool terrace — teak loungers arranged beneath a clean contemporary pergola — holds the valley light for longer than anywhere else on the property, the surrounding gardens thick with bougainvillea and the Urubamba peaks holding their silhouette against the darkening sky.

About

Our unique property is an intimate 43-casitas hotel within 328,000 square feet of beautiful gardens surrounded by archaeological attractions, and many opportunities of outdoor activities. We have 15 high end luxury casitas like that one which have private terraces and plunge pools overlooking the gardens. They all have an entry porch, foyer, living room and are equipped with heating floor system and fireplace. All the decoration of the casitas is based on the art work of renowned Peruvian artists such as Jaime Leibane and the beautiful frescoed murals by acclaimed artist, Federico Bauer which makes them all really special and unique.

"Amazing experience. We spent one night in the way to Machu Picchu and it was the perfect place to rest, adjust to the altitude and enjoy the beauty of Sacred Valley. The food was also exceptional"

"This hotel is very special, casitas spread around beautiful grounds, wonderful pool with views, service is impeccable, food is lovely and a great selection of wines. Paul looked after us in the restaurant with great friendly service. Pool sauna gym and all spotlessly clean."

"Wow! An oasis of tranquility and calm. Stunning gardens, lodges, scenery and views. Wonderful friendly and attentive staff, great WhatsApp service direct to reception. The food was great in the restaurant as was room service. The pool is so inviting and there’s also a very modern mini gym. Our fire was lit each night and a hot water bottle placed in our bed! Underfloor heating. The bathroom was large with every thing you needed. Had great massages and facials too. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the Sacred Valley"

"Oh the views of the mountains. And oh the wonderful people from host/manager Vincente to Paul, Christian and Geraldo (and everyone ) in the dining room. What professional service. You will fall in love with this place as we did. So happy we were able to stay for three nights. We took day trips to Moray to see the Incas laboratory of science. We saw potato and corn farmland, as well as a chocolate and salt shop ( with pink salt!) We loved the Salinas de Maras, the 4,000 salt ponds. And the very attractive town of Chincero. Breakfast for a king. And for dinner, everything. But especially the pappardelle with lamb ragout and the lettuce with pomegranates and avocados. What a chef! Hope to come back with our grandchildren."
