PB hotel design editorial

At the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Glorietta in the heart of Makati's central business district, a dark-curtain-walled tower rising some 27 floors above the city's financial core gives the Fairmont Makati its defining urban posture — part of the larger Ayala Center redevelopment that remade this stretch of Metro Manila in the early 2010s. Opened in 2013 as the Fairmont brand's first foothold in the Philippines, the hotel shares its mixed-use complex with serviced residences and retail, the podium levels stepping back to create a terrace that holds a generous outdoor pool deck, its pale stone surround lined with palm trees and low-slung loungers against a bronze-tinted glazed facade. Inside, the 281 rooms follow a palette familiar to Fairmont's mid-decade Asian properties — tall upholstered headboards in champagne leather, dark-stained macassar ebony casegoods, Eames-adjacent task chairs in tan leather, and wool-blend carpet in warm taupe. The interiors carry the atmosphere of restrained contemporary classicism rather than anything specifically Filipino, the rooms generous by Manila standards and oriented toward city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. The all-day dining restaurant introduces a more theatrical register, with blown-glass chandelier clusters — one a dense starburst form, others elongated drop pendants — suspended above linen-set tables, the walls finished in textured stone panels and antique-mirror glass that amplify the candlelit warmth of the room into something approaching genuine glamour.

"Our recent 2-day family staycation at the Fairmont Makati was nothing short of spectacular. We were celebrating two major milestones—my daughter’s graduation and my niece’s birthday—and the hotel team went entirely above and beyond to make it memorable. While the property itself is flawless—boasting exceptionally clean rooms and beautifully well-maintained facilities and amenities—it is truly their PEOPLE who are their greatest asset. You can feel the genuine, top-notch hospitality at every single touchpoint: from pre-arrival coordination, throughout the stay, at departure, and even post-departure. A huge commendation goes to the incredible leadership of Mayumi and Angelo, who clearly foster a culture of excellence. We spent our stay being pampered by the phenomenal Fairmont Gold Team, who looked after our family with the utmost care and attentiveness. Special thanks to Sheena, Patrick, Briel, Kate, Jaz, Shiela, Zarrah, Ella, Dane, Dexter, and Jules. A quick shoutout to Jules—that warm, infectious smile will genuinely make your day! Thank you again to the entire Fairmont Gold Team. Your service is highly commendable, and you have earned loyal guests for life. We cannot wait to return!"

"We loved the Fairmont Makati! The service was impeccable, especially the bellman Ceddy. He was always remarkably accommodating and friendly. He really brightened up our days and made us truly feel special. The hotel is very clean. The pool and spa were very nice. The room was very beautiful yet functional. We cannot wait to return!"

"The Fairmont Makati is one of those interesting hotels which is actually two hotels: a lower tier hotel (the Fairmont) and a upper hotel (the Raffles). And as the tiers suggest, one is actually on top of the other, ie the Fairmont has the lower floors. I stayed in the Fairmont, but the way the hotel is set up one had the advantage of being able still to access some Raffles facilities: the spa and gym, and it seems the breakfast, were communal. Also the Raffles had a 'long bar' .. very similar to the classic in Singapore, but much less crowded and cheaper .. which you could charge to your Fairmont room. Rooms were well furnished, maintained and serviced: staff very helpful and polite. Hotel excellently located for the shopper - surrounded by quality malls - and only 15 minutes from the airport. Price reasonable given that this is a high class area."

"I stayed here recently for my school prom. While the room was clean and the amenities were nice, the service was a huge letdown. We were told to expect a discount or upgrade as students of my school, but the front desk flat-out denied it. What made it worse was seeing classmates who booked the same dates get upgrades. When we asked why, the staff gave us conflicting excuses about 'membership' and 'availability'—even though we checked in earlier than the other group and neither of us had any membership status. It honestly felt like the staff was picking and choosing who gets good service. It’s disheartening to feel treated differently at a hotel that’s supposed to be 'prestigious.' I’ve seen other reviews mentioning this exact same issue, so it clearly wasn’t just us. Management really needs to fix how they train their staff and make sure they’re actually following through on the promos they promise. Not the kind of experience I expected at all."
