PB hotel design editorial

The Latin inscription carved into the pediment — Si vis pacem, para bellum, if you want peace, prepare for war — tells you immediately that this building was never meant for rest. That the former military and ecclesiastical complex on Stradomska Street now houses Stradom House, Autograph Collection, which opened in 2023, carries a certain irony the designers at ADC Atelier have leaned into rather than papered over. The 125-room hotel was carved from a medieval foundation dating to the fourteenth century, its layers of Baroque, neoclassical, and modernist addition all preserved and put to work. Nowhere is this more vivid than in the bar, where a former Baroque chapel has been dressed in dark fluted timber panelling and topped with a 500-kilogram chandelier of amber and opaline glass spheres suspended beneath a surviving dome — the architecture of devotion redirected toward something more convivial. Rooms balance two distinct registers: some sit close to the historic fabric, wrapped in pale oak panelling with sculptural headboards and floral Axminster rugs evoking Polish decorative tradition, while others take a lighter modernist line with walnut trim, mid-century seating in dusty rose, and floor-to-ceiling glazing across the Kraków roofline. Below, the SÓL wellness centre houses a twenty-metre lap pool lined in cream zellige and geometric green tile — a geometry closer to a central European bathhouse than a corporate spa. The whole thing holds together because ADC Atelier trusted the building to carry the weight.

"Had an amazing one-night stay at Stradom House. I have to say overall it was one of my favorite Marriott stays of all time, and I'm a Titanium Elite, so I've stayed at many around the world. At check-in, they were very friendly and gave me all the important details about where things are located, how to access the spa, location and hours of breakfast, etc. I know this sounds basic, but I've been to so many hotels where you have to ask to get even this simply information. Everything just felt very seamless and thoughtful. The room was cute and spacious. It had a cozy European feel to it. Lots of outlets, decent lighting (though I wish there were a dimmer option for the bathroom) great showers, and bathroom was gorgeous. Services and amenities were spectacular. The gym was really top of the line, bit and with the very modern, high tech equipment that connects to Apple or Google fitness apps. The spa was fantastic, with various pools and saunas and even a relaxing sound room, and it's included in the rate. The bar is adorable with a classy, vintage feel to it. We had breakfast at Gaia restaurant and even that blew me away. I don't normally care too much for hotel breakfasts, but this one was wonderful, in terms of quality, presentation, and service. At most Marriotts, I ask what's included in the elite breakfast, because there are usually a lot of restrictions. Here, when I asked, the server responded, "everything." The a la carte options went way beyond the basics. I had their polish twist on a croquet madame, which was a sausage patty with a potato roti and poached egg on top, plus a nice sauce and good mustard. My dining companion had the Turkish eggs and love that as well. The buffet items were wonderful, and you can tell they're using high quality ingredients. But really what puts them over the top is the incredible staff. Every single person I encountered was so kind and helpful. The day I left, I was having trouble getting an Uber because of some street closures, so one of the staff was helping me arrange a car, which took about an hour due to all the closures. He was so helpful and was more upset about the situation than I was. I will be back later this week for another stay, and I'm so looking forward to it."

"A truly lovely hotel in the heart of Krakow. The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk to the Main Square. We stayed in a Heritage King Room, beautifully appointed with a lively bathroom & gorgeous products. One tip, the trams go past regularly from 5am to 11pm, quite noisy, take earplugs!! Nothing the hotel can do as the hotel is central, would recommend an inner room. We ate in Gaia restaurant each morning for breakfast & had dinner twice, the food was delicious & the service was amazing. We also had dinner in Stradomska 12, lovely food & great service again. The hotel spa is wonderful, we had a very relaxing time though, perfect to unwind. Beautiful pool & we had a wonderful facial. We will definitely return to this Hotel, we had a wonderful stay & all the staff were fantastic."
