PB hotel design editorial

Rebuilding Warsaw's Old Town from near-total wartime destruction was one of the twentieth century's most ambitious acts of architectural reconstruction, and it is within this painstakingly reassembled urban fabric that Hotel Verte Warsaw Autograph Collection finds its home. The pale cream Baroque palace visible in the courtyard image — its terracotta-tiled mansard roof, pedimented central bay, and lion-fountain forecourt clipped into formal box hedging — is itself a product of that postwar restoration effort, carrying the composed symmetry of eighteenth-century Polish manor architecture while housing a thoroughly contemporary hotel interior across its 103 rooms. The contrast between shell and filling is where the design earns its interest. Original stucco plasterwork — elaborate swag-and-garland cornices, fluted pilasters, plaster medallions — frames interiors that layer warm walnut millwork, herringbone parquet, and brass pendant lighting against the period bones without mimicking them. The restaurant deploys curved, channel-tufted banquettes in dove-grey velvet beneath a canopy of mixed glass and brass pendants, the checkered marble floors of the bar anchoring a domed brass-framed back bar that sits inside the original arched recess like a jewel box. In the suites, fluted black timber headboard panels and sculptural brass spider-leg chandeliers push back against the white plasterwork ceilings above — a productive tension between the palace's inherited grandeur and a design sensibility that has no interest in period reproduction.

About

A warm welcome to Hotel Verte, Warsaw, Autograph Collection- the first boutique hotel in Poland under the Autograph Collection brand by Marriott. The hotel’s location in the very heart of the center of Warsaw- just next to the Old Town and only steps away from the Royal Castle- provides you with a unique blend of comfort, history, culture and lifestyle. Hotel Verte is a place ‘out of a painting’, a vision of two 18th century palaces, rebuilt by the architects and engineers of Warsaw after its total destruction during World War II. Now finding its former glory and re-becoming the icon it once was. Now a palace where original Rococo architecture and authentic elements pair with classically inspired, modern décor. When the Branicki family build the palace decades ago, it was their greatest wish to create memories for generations to come. A promise we have now made our own, inviting guests from all over the world to stay in one of our 94 rooms & suites. Each one of them distinguished by its unique design and furnishings, making sure your every stay is EXACTLY LIKE NOTHING ELSE. Start your day with breakfast in our Pawilon restaurant- a space full of light, life and greenery. Savour the excellent cuisine served by Maciej Majewski in our KUK restaurant, where to expect local products and flavors served in an unconventional fashion. Or simply join us as the Branicki Lobby Bar. The place for both formal and informal meetings to crown your day. "We had the most amazing stay for six nights, for our son and daughter in laws wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff could not have been more helpful. We would strongly recommend whether for a weekend break or a large event. They served over 200 guest efficiently, nothing was too much trouble."

"The quality of this hotel is surpassed only by the brilliance of the staff. Our second stay, this time for a family wedding, with about 20 guests staying here as the base. Everyone loved it. We are so grateful to concierge, restaurant, reception and reservation staff who anticipated needs, arranged cars, and trips and a final breakfast for 30 people with only a day's notice. The staff smile all the time (even though the hotel was full). the location is perfect, the garden terrace a wonderful place to relax, food at breakfast superb. A very happy week, making a special event absolutely perfect"

"We had a lovely stay at this hotel at the beginning of May. Our room was spacious with good amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was superb. The location is ideal and within a lovely space, being an old palace. I’d really recommend a stay in the Hotel Verte."

"This is our second stay in the fabulous hotel and we will be back. Beginning with my name on a reserved parking spot for our car in front of the hotel the service was exceptional. The location in the center of old town was perfect. Breakfast is a never ending buffet of delicious fresh food including omelets on the weekend. The building was a palace and Marriott spent 8 years renovating preserving and modernizing. It is a perfect combination of classic architecture and smart sustainable modern amenities. GO!"

"A grand old building gussied up into a modern luxury conference hotel. Excellent service, big, airy rooms, and a convenient location near the old town. But the room design is simply awful, designed for style rather than comfort. There were at least five artistic low-powered lamps in our room, but nowhere enough light to work or read, except perhaps in the glassed-in toilet cubicle. And then there are the bedside spotlights, which are clearly designed for looks and don't work at all. I think this place must be intended for conventioneers and honeymooners. Tourists and business travelers may find it expensive and excessive."
