PB hotel design editorial

Facing Piłsudski Square — one of Warsaw's most historically charged public spaces, where communist-era military parades once unfolded within sight of the Saxon Garden — the building that houses the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria carries the full weight of the city's postwar reinvention. Completed in 1976 to designs by Zbigniew Ihnatowicz and Jacek Mokrzyński, the ten-storey structure belongs to the refined end of late modernist hotel architecture: a long horizontal white volume lifted above a glazed podium, its repetitive window rhythm disciplined and confident rather than austere, legible in the images as a building that was always meant to signal international status to a city still rebuilding its centre. The interiors, refreshed in successive phases, navigate a productive tension between that functionalist frame and Sofitel's Franco-inflected warmth. Guest rooms come in two registers — one dressed in pale oak panelling with amber pendant lights and saffron-yellow cushions, another more spirited, with red leather headboards, herringbone timber floors, and burnt-orange curtains framing views over the square. The restaurant deploys a bold wave-patterned carpet in terracotta and charcoal beneath a field of circular ceiling luminaires, the black-framed glazed screens behind the kitchen line drawing a deliberate nod to Parisian brasserie geometry. Below, the spa pool is lined in warm limestone, its blue-lit water reflecting back a grid of glowing amber panels — theatrical without being overwrought, which for Warsaw in winter is precisely the right pitch.

"The location is great to walk to see all the major sites. Rooms are large, comfortable and have all the necessary amenities. Staff were friendly. Tetiana at the breakfast room and Patience and Rose at the Spa need recognition for their courtesy and attentions to the details of their works."

"We had a wonderful stay at Sofitel Warsaw Victoria. This is a true 5-star luxury hotel in an excellent central location, right in front of Pilsudski Square, where guests can watch the ceremonial changing of the guards every morning. The location makes it extremely convenient for exploring Warsaw. We were upgraded to a suite with beautiful views overlooking Pilsudski Square. The suite was very spacious, with a comfortable bedroom featuring exceptionally cozy beds and pillows that ensured excellent sleep quality. The living room was also well-designed with adequate and comfortable furniture, making the suite ideal for relaxation after sightseeing. Service throughout the hotel was prompt and professional. The front desk staff were courteous, efficient, and always willing to help. Breakfast was extensive and of very high quality, with an impressive variety of fresh salads, healthy smoothies, fruits, and a very good omelette station. The concierge team was polite and helpful, though at times it seemed understaffed for such a busy luxury hotel in a prime central location. We occasionally had to wait even for minor concierge-related assistance. Increasing the number of concierge staff would further improve the guest experience. For transportation around Warsaw, we found using Bolt extremely convenient — cars arrived quickly and the fares were very reasonable. Overall, this is a highly recommended luxury hotel for anyone looking for comfort, service, and an excellent central location in Warsaw."

"From the moment we arrived, the staff at Sofitel Victoria Warsaw made us feel genuinely welcomed — and that warmth never wavered throughout our entire stay. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean, and well-appointed with excellent amenities. For the quality on offer, it represents great value for money. We visited a bar in our hotel, where the bartender went above and beyond to craft a bespoke cocktail for my husband — one that wasn’t even on the menu. Without all the ingredients to hand, she cheerfully offered to improvise, and the result was wonderful. That kind of initiative and hospitality is rare and truly appreciated. A small mix-up with the in-room water (labelled still but actually sparkling) was resolved instantly and with a smile — the housekeeper not only brought still water right away but also left extra tea bags . Breakfast deserves a special mention, and so does Agata, who looked after us beautifully. We hadn’t pre-booked breakfast, but she took the time to walk us through both the à la carte and buffet options, personally showing us the food stations so we could make an informed choice. She even came back to check on us while we were eating — attentive without being intrusive. The entire team communicates warmly and effectively in English, and even those with more limited English made every effort to help. It’s clear that hospitality here isn’t just a job — it’s a genuine commitment. We will absolutely be returning. Highly recommended! Also to mention, the location is excellent 10 minutes to old town, about 3 km to a museum."
