PB hotel design editorial

At the wedge-shaped intersection where Avenida da Liberdade meets the Marquês de Pombal roundabout, a curtain-wall tower of dark-tinted glass cuts a sharp profile against Lisbon's low terracotta skyline. Designed by Saraiva + Associados and completed in 2012, ME Lisbon fills eleven floors with 164 rooms, its angled footprint tracking the geometry of the boulevard below — a piece of deliberate urban punctuation at one of the city's most charged addresses. The facade's bronze-toned glazing catches the late afternoon light in a way that sets it apart from the Pombaline limestone facades stretching south toward Baixa. The interiors, conceived by Jaime Beriestain, move between warm oak herringbone floors and veined marble in the bathrooms, where freestanding stone-resin soaking tubs are separated from the sleeping area by open-shelf room dividers rather than walls — a layout that keeps the rooms feeling expansive and continuous. Upstairs, the rooftop carries the property's most confident gesture: an infinity pool directed toward the Tagus and the castle hill, flanked by mature olive trees and low lounge seating in muted violet. The restaurant just below, visible in the images, is fitted with an exposed blackened ceiling, herringbone timber flooring, and a sculptural copper-wire chandelier that spirals overhead like a loose brushstroke — bringing the kind of considered drama that the ME brand has consistently used to distinguish its properties from conventional five-star anonymity.

"Family holiday with the kids, chose the ME for it excellent location. From the moment we arrived the service from everyone working in the hotel was amazing. Throughout our stay they couldn’t do enough to help us. The hotel itself is also very nice. The spa and breakfast are top notch and our four boys enjoyed the pool a lot. The rooms were also extremely nice, luxurious and modern. Was a great few days away in a great city."

"All in all we had a wonderful 3 night stay The check in staff/concierge were fantastic as were the housekeepers and spa therapists. We used the spa circuit daily, pool was cold but the sauna and turkish bath were great. Very clean facilities and complimentary cold water was available Our room was stunning and very clean - had to ask to replenish the coffee as it wasnt done automatically The roof top pool will we great in the summer The only disappointment was the breakfast. With it being al a carte there is no buffet, even for continental items. Coffee order was really slow every day, the hot food would come whilst you were still eating the cold and we always had to ask for extras such as croissants and banana bread as the standard basket hold one of each item and we are a family of 4. A buffet should and would be better for the cold items"

"The service at ME Lisbon is very good. The checkin and checkout staff was super friendly. The breakfast was delicious and had many great varieties, even without the buffet format. The rooms were new, clean and well designed. They also had so many amenities and gifts for our baby."

"This hotel is absolutely superb. It is modern, stylish and extremely comfortable and well designed. It is brand new and everything has been thought of to the tiniest detail. I was messaged before arrival and asked if I had any requests or requirements. I told them we had a celebration while we were there and although the hotel excepts pets could we please have a pet free room. When we arrived they welcomed us like royalty and knew all the requirements we had asked for and mentioned them by name. Our room on the 7 th floor had a view over the city - but if you want a view of the sea go up to the roof terrace- where there is a pool with is only open in warmer weather. The staff had given us a beautiful chocolate mousse cake, fresh fruit, a card and bubbly as a surprise gift for us. However on subsequent days we were given port and pasta da nata, fruit, cold meats and wine. One day while we were out the housekeeper saw my phone charging cords were hanging loose - they gave each cord a little Velcro tie to make them easier to manage. On our last night we were presented with a ceramic swallow - a symbol of Portugal meaning love, loyalty, and new beginnings. Breakfast each day was freshly prepared- And generous with a wide choice - juice of the day as well a detox or simple oj grapefruit or others. The spa is lovely and many treatments are on offer as well as pool sauna relaxation rooms, sensory shower and Turkish bath The hotel tries to be as sustainable as possible with wooden keys and very little single use plastic (I didn’t see any) Dinner at Fismuler was a treat in itself and we wish all hotels could learn from the Melia Magic."
