PB hotel design editorial

At the wedge-shaped intersection where Avenida da Liberdade meets the Marquês de Pombal roundabout, a curtain-wall tower of dark-tinted glass cuts a sharp profile against Lisbon's low terracotta skyline. Designed by Saraiva + Associados and completed in 2012, ME Lisbon fills eleven floors with 164 rooms, its angled footprint tracking the geometry of the boulevard below — a piece of deliberate urban punctuation at one of the city's most charged addresses. The facade's bronze-toned glazing catches the late afternoon light in a way that sets it apart from the Pombaline limestone facades stretching south toward Baixa. The interiors, conceived by Jaime Beriestain, move between warm oak herringbone floors and veined marble in the bathrooms, where freestanding stone-resin soaking tubs are separated from the sleeping area by open-shelf room dividers rather than walls — a layout that keeps the rooms feeling expansive and continuous. Upstairs, the rooftop carries the property's most confident gesture: an infinity pool directed toward the Tagus and the castle hill, flanked by mature olive trees and low lounge seating in muted violet. The restaurant just below, visible in the images, is fitted with an exposed blackened ceiling, herringbone timber flooring, and a sculptural copper-wire chandelier that spirals overhead like a loose brushstroke — bringing the kind of considered drama that the ME brand has consistently used to distinguish its properties from conventional five-star anonymity.

"Excellent stay at the ME Lisbon hotel. The hotel is very modern and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was amazing and worth paying the extra. Amazing touches like the choice of pillows! The staff are also exceptional, so friendly and always ready to help. On our last day we came back from the town in the midday heat and the person on the front desk rushed to us with complimentary water cartons. The hotel is amazing but the staff is also want makes the stay exceptional. We had such a good experience I will always look at staying at other ME hotels where I get the chance."

"My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in June for a birthday celebration. we stayed in a Junior Suite with terrace. This is a spacious room, very clean and modern. the minibar is well stocked and snacks are included too. We ate in both restaurants during our stay and both were delicious. service was excellent. we are breakfast in Fismuler each morning, and dinner on one night. food was excellent. We are dinner in Attiko on one night and this was our favourite. would highly recommend. Food and drink was very high quality and the atmosphere was lively. this was a chill out holiday so we spent our days at the rooftop pool area. Theres a full bar which also serves food. the pool is small with limited sunbeds so get there early for poolside lounging. plenty of other seating also. The excellent service to your sunbed means you can totally relax. they provide towels and have suncream for convenience. there was a rooftop party on night one, and a live DJ on another night. a really nice vibe. We have stayed at many top hotels in Europe, and the housekeeping service here is top quality. As well as the top notch cleaning, there were extra special thoughtful touches, such as leaving a bookmark for our books, a little cloth left with our sunglasses for cleaning, and the attention to detail in the tidying was exceptional. staff really are excellent in this hotel. we were added to a whatsapp for easy communication which made organising reservations so simple. shout-out to Bernardo, Ana and Carolina, as well as all the bar staff and concierge/reception staff. no notes! we were provided with a complimentary airport transfer which was the cherry on top of a lovely weekend in Lisbon. we will definitly be returning and recommending to our friends"

"Brand new hotel that we stayed at right after it just opened. Staff were lovely, BUT they had no valet parking and my husband had to walk 15 min to park the rental each time. It was extremely inconvenient. The room was very nice and we had an adjoining room with our older kids. The amenities were great, and we really enjoyed having breakfast and some dinners at the Fismuler. Staff there were excellent and of course, so very friendly. The hotel itself is not within walking distance to Avenida da Liberdade and Baixa. We had to drive to our destinations. We ended up cutting our stay short and staying at the more luxurious Ivens, which had a valet and located closer to the sites."

"I had some Meliá points that were about to expire, so I booked one night at this hotel. I wish I had booked my entire stay in Lisbon here, but unfortunately my reservations at other hotels were non-refundable. The hotel is quite sophisticated while still maintaining a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and polite, and check-in was smooth and efficient. The room was spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The bed was very comfortable, and we had an excellent night's sleep. I visited the spa but didn't have a chance to use it. It looked fantastic, though. The gym was excellent, even if it wasn't particularly large. The swimming pool felt a bit small, but that's understandable for a hotel in downtown Lisbon. Breakfast was simply SUPERB. It was so good that I'd happily have it every day for the rest of the year."

"An emergency stay after we missed a flight. Our friend was booked in so fancied joining her. This hotel has outstanding service, rooms, breakfast... everything. The rooftop pool is a bit small for serious swimmers, but for a cooling off dip it’s perfect. The decor is absolutely first class throughout, really feels premium. Our room had a bathroom with a glass wall and curtain between that and the sleeping area. This 'leaked light' at night and I'm sure some people would hate it. Didn't bother us though! Loved the arrangement."
