PB hotel design editorial

Perched on one of Alfama's oldest streets, within a sixteenth-century palace that survived the catastrophic 1755 earthquake largely intact, Santiago de Alfama carries a weight of Lisbon history that few boutique hotels anywhere in Europe can match. The building's stone-flagged entrance hall, visible in the images with its broad limestone arches and original paving worn smooth over centuries, sets that tone immediately — cobalt velvet sofas and a large contemporary canvas adding deliberate friction against the ancient fabric rather than trying to smooth it away. The exterior facade, cream-rendered with terracotta tile copings and wrought-iron balconettes, follows the restrained palatial grammar of late Manueline and early Renaissance Lisbon. Inside, the eighteen rooms draw on a palette anchored by teal velvet and warm pine floorboards, with individual rooms distinguished by their decorative choices — hand-painted azulejo-style tilework climbing full walls in some, coffered whitewashed ceilings and steel-blue upholstered headboards with nailhead detailing in others that open directly onto Tagus views. The bar is fitted in blond timber with mirrored panels and deep teal damask wallcovering, nailhead bar stools completing a room that feels more private members' club than hotel amenity. Throughout, carved Moorish mirrors and ornate gilded console tables hold their ground alongside contemporary art, the whole interior navigating the line between palatial grandeur and the intimate scale that Alfama's narrow hillside streets quietly demand.

"When you arrive by car you need a code to access the area where the hotel is located. Trams and tours easily accessible within walking distance. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. Very helpful and friendly staff."

"We had an excellent stay at the Santiago de Alfama hotel. The check in process was smooth. The concierge was courteous and super helpful. They gave us lots of recommendations for restaurants and activities. The room was absolutely beautiful. The decor was stylish. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept great! They offer room service from the cafe and restaurant without extra charge. They do morning and evening house keeping. The hotel restaurant was very good! We enjoyed a fresh seafood dinner. The location of the hotel is great. There is a lot to see in Alfama, and the location is walking distance to the downtown area of the city. The hotel is on a hill, so the walk back is steep but doable. We really enjoyed this hotel. It was top tier. I would definitely recommend staying here."

"Don't look anywhere else and book one of the 19 rooms in this beautiful boutique hotel situated in the heart of Alfama, which is the old part of Lisbon and thank me later. Check in was so perfect. They made us feel welcomed and part of their family. The room was so perfect. We had room 101. It was very spacious, with all the necessary amenities, great coffee machine and just perfect for the vibe my wife and I were looking for. Breakfast was so perfect. Not only is the food divine, but the service is efficient, impeccable and so friendly. The dinner restaurant was so perfect. Order the scallops and thank me later. The bar was so perfect. We were treated to some special drinks. The bartender has the best smile in Lisbon. What a joy it is to come in after a full day of visiting and climbing those hills and see the bartender (I am so sorry, I forgot his name) smile and serve us perfectly concocted drinks. It is very rare I say this, but I cannot find one fault or one disadvantage to this jewel of a hotel. If this review is not enough to persuade you to book here, then you should also know that he location of this hotel is also....so perfect !!!"
