"Lovely hotel in a perfect location. It’s incredibly walkable, with the metro just a few minutes away, which made exploring Porto so easy. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful throughout my stay. My room was immaculate, with a wonderful view and a very comfortable bed. Even in the summer, the room stayed surprisingly cool and comfortable, and I didn’t need to turn on the AC once. The pool and garden area is especially charming and peaceful. It feels like a little retreat in the middle of the city and was such a lovely place to relax after walking around Porto. I also really appreciated how thoughtful the staff were during my stay. They kindly accommodated an early check-in, and knowing it was my birthday, surprised me with cake and champagne in my room. It was incredibly generous and such a lovely touch. The value absolutely reflects the quality of the experience. A beautiful, relaxing place to stay, and one I’d happily recommend. Thank you for making my birthday in Porto so special. 🧡"

"Let me start with what was right. The location is excellent. The staff friendly and accommodating. One young man at reception greeted us by name every time he saw us! The included breakfast has a reasonable assortment of food on the buffet and there is an option to order egg dishes like eggs benedict. I so wanted to give this hotel 5 stars. but the room was just not up to our expectations. The setup with the bathroom in the center of the room makes the room seem small. The bathroom takes up so much space leaving room for the bed and only one small chair in the corner. (There is also a small bench at the desk as you enter the room). The floor needs to be repaired/refinished. Beyond the size and condition of our room I was surprised there was not even one USB port. We have stayed at historic hotels that have made the effort to install a small strip with 2 or 3 USB ports plugged into an electrical outlet. Luckily, I was prepared having brough my own to charge our phones."

"This hotel stay had pluses and minuses for us. It was overall a bit of a disappointment from what I had been expecting. The pluses: The staff were very nice and greeted us with a glass of port wine upon arrival. There is an old world charm to the hotel. The included breakfast was very nice. The pool area is very small but a nice place to sit and have a drink. The location of this hotel is good and central to a lot of what is going on in Porto with good restaurants nearby. The staff helped us arrange a nice tour of Douro. The minuses: We arrived at 2:45pm and were told our room would not be ready until 3pm so we waited in the interesting lobby bar/cafe for about half an hour. We were surprised when we were then led across a fairly busy two way street to an annex type building that felt very isolated from the main part of the hotel. The room was dark and cold and the bathroom the size of a postage stamp and we asked to be moved to the main part of the hotel. This was accommodated although that room had not been made up so we had to wait again for about 45 minutes. Because the hotel is located in the middle of a row of buildings, (our second room at least) was very dark and looked out on a roof and an adjacent building. The amenities in the room I would describe as "so so". There was a very large upholstered armoire that was torn with stuffing exposed all along one side (I informed staff who didn't seem too interested in this). There was a strange "standing panel" near the door to the room that controlled the lights. The inside of the hotel overall seems rather shabby for a hotel rated as five star and not the cleanest either (lobby bathroom was a mess with an overflowing trash can). The room keys appear to be from another century - charming - but we struggled with opening our door each and every time we entered the room and we saw other guests struggling as well. Overall I would say our stay here was okay, but not the caliber or quality that I was expecting."
