PB hotel design editorial

Along Doha's West Bay corniche, where the Arabian Gulf meets one of the Gulf's most aggressively vertical skylines, a cluster of sand-coloured towers crowned with latticed domes presents an alternative proposition: that scale and traditional Qatari architectural vocabulary need not be mutually exclusive. The Four Seasons Doha, opened in 2005 across a site encompassing 200 rooms and suites, was designed to read as a fortified coastal settlement rather than an anonymous tower, its crenellated turrets, pointed arches, and warm limestone cladding drawing directly from the vernacular of Gulf pearl-trading ports. The pool courtyard makes this language most legible — a winding freeform pool threaded between date palms, framed by a rusticated watchtower in ashlar stone that could belong to a much older city entirely. Inside, two distinct registers operate simultaneously. The guest rooms in their post-renovation form settle into a palette of chalk white, warm taupe, and pale aquamarine, with carved plasterwork headboard surrounds and brass-detailed furniture suggesting restraint rather than opulence — the Gulf light diffusing through full-height balcony doors does most of the decorative work. Against this quietude, the rooftop bar plays a deliberately different hand: dark walnut louvres, laser-cut brass mashrabiya screens, low platform seating on kilim-weave rugs, and the glow of traditional shisha vessels arranged along step-lit plinths produce an atmosphere closer to a contemporary Beirut terrace than a hotel amenity. The private beach, shaded by a colonnade of palms, completes a property that remains among the most contextually considered addresses in the Gulf.

"This is a really good property about 20 minutes drive from the airport if no traffic in an area of hotels with pretty gulf views. I liked it not just because they upgraded me to a presidential suite from a diplomatic suite. The facilities are great throughout and spa facilities open till 11. Gym was very good although no situp bench (in this region gyms don't seem to have one). There is beach. Breakfast buffet had wow to it and it took only 30 seconds for stuff I asked for from the kitchen to appear on the table. Waiter should enter the waiter olympics. Room was great and the shaver-cord charging outlet worked. (Not true in many other 5-star hotels.) Lots of eating opportunities on this property and I liked the menus. Make sure not to confuse this with the other Four Seasons in another part of town (the Pearl). This place is good enough that there is no reason for me to consider a different hotel in Doha."

"Our stay in Four Seasons Hotel Doha was characterized by serenity, refinement, and generous hospitality. The moment we drove into the hotel premises, we were attended to with genuine affection that set the tone for a warm and easygoing reception. Checking in was smooth, and the staff made us feel like our comfort and pleasure were of utmost importance to them. We were upgraded to a corner room with spectacular views. One side opened toward the peaceful blue of the Arabian Gulf, while the other offered a striking look at Doha's modern skyline. The room was spacious and serene; the design soft and warm, assuring an atmosphere of understated luxury. Fresh flowers added a thoughtful touch, and the bed, pillows, and linens were of the highest comfort. Bathroom amenities were beautifully scented and of high quality, making even simple routines small moments of pleasure. One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast served in the room. Enjoying a beautifully prepared meal while looking out at the sea through large windows created a quiet and memorable start to the day. The food was excellent, the service unhurried, and the entire experience felt refined and personal. The spa is another prominent feature: multi-tiered, with rooms dedicated to various modes of relaxation. Guests can easily transition between pools of warm water, a laconium room for deep rest, an ice cooling room, and an area with resistance water training. The lighting, textures, and amenities are chosen with care to be as soothing as possible. The fitness center is very well-equipped, even boasting a squash court, proving just how thoroughly this hotel supports both relaxation and active living. The hotel itself feels like a beautifully managed small city. Several restaurants, lounges, and cafés are on the premises, plus a private beach and a marina. One could easily spend a whole day on the property without ever feeling the need to go anywhere else. Every space feels intentional, comfortable, and maintained with high standards. We didn't have a single complaint as we checked out of the hotel. Four Seasons Hotel Doha weaves together warmth, elegance, and attentive service in a way that is as rare as it is deeply satisfying. It's the ideal choice for travelers who want a luxurious stay that includes beautiful sea views, excellent wellness facilities, and a feeling of being genuinely cared for throughout the entire visit."

"We stayed for five nights at the Four Seasons Hotel Doha and were pleasantly surprised by how well the hotel caters not only to business travellers but also to families. Although the property has a distinctly corporate ambience, it offers a wealth of facilities that make it equally appealing for leisure stays. There are three beautiful outdoor pools, proper indoor jacuzzis and even an ice room to cool down after the sauna or steam room - a rare and refreshing feature. The endless pool is another highlight, perfect for swimming and exercise. Dining throughout our stay was excellent. Nobu Doha is a must-visit - its stunning views, sophisticated vibe and exceptional food made for a memorable evening. Curiosa by Jean-Georges is another standout, set in front of a green lawn overlooking the sea, offering creative tapas-style dishes ideal for sharing. Elements, where we had breakfast each morning, provided a good variety of both hot and cold dishes, though the selection can feel a little repetitive after several days. Special thanks to Amir, Tarek and Jenelle from Elements for their warm and attentive service every morning. The spa is world-class, offering both serenity and sophistication. The facilities are outstanding, and I would particularly like to recognise Dennis, Paul and Julius for their exceptional professionalism and kindness. At the beach, Stan was always welcoming and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. The Kids Club may be small, but it is well run by a truly lovely team. Jenny, Elsie and Lenny took wonderful care of our daughter, who loved spending time there - even though she was often the only child, which perhaps reflects that the hotel attracts more families with older children or teenagers. Overall, the Four Seasons Doha offers a perfect balance between business elegance and family comfort. The facilities, dining options and service all live up to the Four Seasons name. Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond, making our stay truly memorable. We would happily return."
