PB hotel design editorial

Positioned at the edge of Marina Bay since 1987, when Singapore's reclaimed waterfront was still finding its identity, the Mandarin Oriental Singapore was among the first hotels to claim what has since become one of the most photographed urban panoramas on earth. The 527-room tower rises 21 floors above Marina Square, its cream-tiled facade organized in a stepped grid of balconied bays that frame the bay from virtually every angle — Moshe Safdie's Marina Bay Sands visible to the left, the Singapore Flyer arcing above the water to the right, the financial district stacked behind. The rooms carry this positional advantage deliberately: warm-toned timber joinery frames floor-to-ceiling glazing, with floral-patterned carpets in ochre, plum, and slate anchoring interiors that feel considered without being showy. The hotel's outdoor pool terrace, set at podium level, arranges tiered infinity edges and mosaic-tiled water features around a planting scheme of mature palms and white-canopied daybeds — the whole composition oriented to face Moshe Safdie's three towers directly. Inside, the Chinese restaurant Ming Court deploys a vocabulary of dark timber pergola structures, latticed screens, and round banqueting tables set on floral Axminster carpets, drawing from classical Cantonese dining hall precedents with enough spatial depth to avoid pastiche. The cumulative effect across the property is of a hotel that understood its site early and has aged into it with considerable confidence.

"We first discovered Mandarin Oriental when we attended their wedding showcase in 2025 and were immediately captivated by how beautiful the ballroom setup was, from the grand chandeliers to the massive LED screens. We were warmly welcomed by Elena, who professionally walked us through the packages and showed us around the ballroom, solemnisation room, and bridal suite. We knew right then that Mandarin Oriental was our top choice; in fact, we even changed our wedding date just so we could celebrate here! The entire planning process was seamless thanks to our hotel manager, Sharlyn. She was proactive, organized, responsive, and always patient with our endless questions. She even took the time to stay with us during our AV check a few days before the wedding. She truly went above and beyond, and we couldn’t be more thankful. Fast forward to the actual day, the ballroom was decorated so beautifully by the hotel team alongside our florist, Arthur from Aces of Vase. The bridal suite was spacious, spotless, and beautifully prepared by the housekeeping team, and breakfast at Embu was fantastic! Throughout the day, we were supported by an remarkably efficient, hardworking, and warm team: Banquet Manager: Jegan Bridal Assistant: Jewel – A special thank you for helping me with my gowns, looking after my bouquet, and bringing food to our room for my husband and me while we prepared for our second march-in! AV Manager: Sathia They allowed the day to run smoothly without us having to worry about a single thing, letting us just be present and enjoy every moment! Good food was our top priority, and we are so grateful that our guests loved it as much as we did! Everyone has been raving about the banquet. A huge thank you to Chef Andrew and his entire culinary crew for preparing the BEST wedding spread we’ve ever had. We also deeply appreciated how seamlessly all special dietary requirements were handled, as well as the thoughtful gesture of saving warm food for us to enjoy after the reception ended, it truly meant the world to us! We are so happy to have celebrated our wedding at Mandarin Oriental. We also enjoyed our stay and can't thank the entire staff enough for their incredible hospitality. We will definitely recommend Mandarin Oriental to anyone looking for an exceptional wedding venue!!"

"We recently held our wedding at Mandarin Oriental Singapore, and we were so glad that we went ahead with them. The entire planning process was smooth and reassuring. Our hotel manager (Sharlyn) was incredibly responsive, organized, and patient with our endless questions and last-minute requests. The ballroom (The Oriental Ballroom) was very spacious and featured a wide screen that provides a wonderful background with the correct picture and specs. Service was great, and the team worked so efficiently behind the scenes that we never had to worry about a single thing. One of the biggest highlights was the food. Our guests were still talking about it after the wedding saying that the food was good and the portions are huge. The quality, presentation, and service were outstanding, and many of our guests told us it was one of the best wedding banquets they had attended. What impressed us most, however, was the genuine hospitality from every member of the team. They offered to set up the reception lobby the night before as they saw me struggle with some of the set up. It genuinely felt like everyone wanted our day to be as special as we did. As with any events, there will be bound to have small hip cups but the team resolved it quickly after we raised it up. We also appreciated all the little touches that made the experience memorable, from the beautiful huge bridal suite to the professionalism of every staff member we interacted with. Those details made a huge difference. A wedding is one of the biggest milestones in life, and we are glad that we chose Mandarin Oriental Singapore to celebrate ours. Thank you to the entire team for giving us a day that we—and our guests—will remember for a lifetime. We would not hesitate to recommend Mandarin Oriental Singapore to any couple looking for an exceptional wedding venue. "Overall, this is a very good hotel. The service is excellent, the property is modern, and the restaurants are very good. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed, with beautiful views over the city. The main downside is the breakfast experience. Hotel guests often have to wait in a long line to get a table, especially on Sundays when many non-residents come for breakfast. The atmosphere can become quite noisy and feels more like a cafeteria than a five-star hotel. In those circumstances, the level of service unfortunately does not match what one would expect from a luxury property. In my opinion, hotel guests should not have to queue for a table at breakfast."
