PB hotel design editorial

Positioned at the edge of Marina Bay since 1987, when Singapore's reclaimed waterfront was still finding its identity, the Mandarin Oriental Singapore was among the first hotels to claim what has since become one of the most photographed urban panoramas on earth. The 527-room tower rises 21 floors above Marina Square, its cream-tiled facade organized in a stepped grid of balconied bays that frame the bay from virtually every angle — Moshe Safdie's Marina Bay Sands visible to the left, the Singapore Flyer arcing above the water to the right, the financial district stacked behind. The rooms carry this positional advantage deliberately: warm-toned timber joinery frames floor-to-ceiling glazing, with floral-patterned carpets in ochre, plum, and slate anchoring interiors that feel considered without being showy. The hotel's outdoor pool terrace, set at podium level, arranges tiered infinity edges and mosaic-tiled water features around a planting scheme of mature palms and white-canopied daybeds — the whole composition oriented to face Moshe Safdie's three towers directly. Inside, the Chinese restaurant Ming Court deploys a vocabulary of dark timber pergola structures, latticed screens, and round banqueting tables set on floral Axminster carpets, drawing from classical Cantonese dining hall precedents with enough spatial depth to avoid pastiche. The cumulative effect across the property is of a hotel that understood its site early and has aged into it with considerable confidence.

"I celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary last weekend at Mandarin Oriental. The lobby was exquisite and welcoming. The team thoughtfully decorated our room with beautiful swan towel art and flower petals. We also received a handwritten well-wishes card and delicious cakes. To top it off, our room offered a breathtaking view of Marina Bay, which made the stay even more memorable. As we booked a room with access to the club lounge HAUS65, we got to enjoy the amazing afternoon tea and a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. HAUS65 was definitely worth the visit and added great value to our stay. Overall, the staff were very friendly, attentive, and professional. Thank you to Mandarin Oriental for a pleasant and luxurious experience."

"Our stay at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore was excellent from beginning to end. This is a high-end, impressive city-centre hotel in a superb location within the Marina Bay area. We stayed for four nights in a Premier Balcony Room, which was spacious, immaculately clean, and beautifully appointed. The bathroom was particularly large and luxurious, and the balcony with outdoor furniture was a lovely addition. Although our room did not overlook Marina Bay Sands, I didn’t feel we missed out, especially as there is currently a considerable amount of construction taking place on that side of the hotel. What really stood out was the service. Every member of staff we encountered was delightful — warm, professional, and consistently helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast buffet also deserves special praise. It was genuinely one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever experienced, with an incredible variety including full Indian, British, Thai, and Singaporean selections. The self-serve ice cream cones at breakfast were an unexpected and memorable touch. The hotel is extremely well positioned for exploring Marina Bay, with most attractions either within walking distance or a short taxi ride away. Overall, this was a very good stay, and I would absolutely return in the future"

"We had a wedding banquet lunch at Garden Suite. From the get go, we worked with Leticia and we are beyond impressed with her high levels of professionalism and great attitude. From assisting us with the smallest details during the planning, to making sure everything ran smoothly on the day itself. We wish to give the highest thanks and commendation to Leticia. We wish to also commend the banquet managers - Hanafi & Murphy for their great coordination and seamless execution on the day itself, liaising with all other staff and our bridal party to ensure everything ran smoothly and on time. Special shoutout to Hanafi, who really made sure that we had nothing to worry about for every small detail. Wedding Butler Alice was also a great help and she carried out her duties with utmost professionalism, from tea ceremony to the end of the banquet, she made sure that we as a couple (especially my wife Sheila) are well taken care of. Even giving tips and encouragement throughout the day so that Sheila will be less nervous and feel more at ease. Chef Andrew & Chef Tan fed our guests very well, we received multiple feedback that the food was amazing. Princes and Theo from the front office also made sure our logistical/admin matters were all seamless, from the initial check in to the late check out we were granted. A wonderful experience at Mandarin Oriental, an experience we are very happy about and am glad to have made the choice to choose MO as our wedding venue."

"We always enjoy our visits to Cherry Garden! David is consistently warm, proactive, and highly knowledgeable in his work. He engages genuinely with guests and makes everyone feel very comfortable and well taken care of. What stands out even more is how attentive and hands-on he is despite being a sommelier. We often see him helping his colleagues by topping up beverages, clearing used plates, and serving dishes whenever needed. His professionalism, teamwork, and excellent service truly make every dining experience memorable."

"A huge thank you to the amazing team for making our wedding such a smooth and memorable experience! Special shoutout to Letitia from Events, who was incredibly responsive, proactive, and always so on the ball throughout the entire planning process. Our wedding truly would not have gone so smoothly without her dedication and attention to detail. Thank you as well to banquet managers Daniel and Zet for guiding us through the wedding flow so professionally and ensuring everything ran seamlessly on the actual day. Our butler was an absolute gem — truly 100/100. She was so attentive throughout the event, constantly making sure I had drinks and canapés, while also helping me with my dress whenever needed. Her care and attentiveness made such a difference and helped me enjoy the day stress-free. The culinary team also deserves high praises — the food was excellent and many of our guests complimented the quality of the dishes. Lastly, thank you to Sathia from AV for ensuring everything went smoothly technically, and to Princes and Theo from the Front Office for making our stay such a comfortable and pleasant one. We are so grateful to the entire team for making our special day such a wonderful experience!"
