PB hotel design editorial

Yabu Pushelberg rarely gets to build from the ground up at this scale, and their inaugural collaboration with Raffles produced something genuinely singular: Raffles Sentosa Singapore, which arrived in March 2025 as the city-state's first all-villa resort. Spread across 24 acres of tropical hillside on Sentosa Island, the property gave the Toronto-based studio total authorship — master planning, architecture, landscaping, interiors, furniture design, and art direction all flowing from a single creative intelligence. The result is a coherent world rather than a decorated building. The low-slung villas, finished in warm sand-toned render and articulated with deep vertical fins, step down the canopy edge in terraced formations that keep the surrounding trees in constant view. Inside the 62 private pool villas, that same discipline holds. Coffered ceilings in French oak absorb light rather than reflect it, and the carved hexagonal headboard panels — backlit to glow like lanterns at night — carry a geometry rooted in traditional Southeast Asian craft without reproducing it literally. The main restaurant deploys a checkerboard floor of travertine and deep green marble beneath Mathieu Lehanneur's Vertigo pendants, while hand-painted blush murals of ghostly forest trees soften the formal symmetry. At the entry forecourt, a vast circular water feature cascades at dusk against an amber sky, establishing the sensory register that everything inside then sustains — tropical without being folksy, refined without going cold.

"Staying at Raffles Sentosa was pure luxury from start to finish. The villa was stunning with direct beach access and a private pool. The design is elegant but still feels tropical and relaxing. Service is what makes Raffles stand out. The staff remembered our names, anticipated our needs, and made us feel like VIPs. Dining at the restaurants was world-class. The beach, spa, and pool area are immaculate. If you want to celebrate something special or just treat yourself, this is the place. We’ll definitely be back."

"We truly enjoyed every moment of our stay. The villa was beautiful, and the butler’s thoughtful, attentive service made the experience even more special. Thank you for helping prepare the birthday surprise and for all the little touches throughout our stay—they were very much appreciated. We look forward to returning again in the future."

"RafflesSentosa is very conveniently located close to the city center,. All the members of staff where very polite and hospitable. One butler called Tom was particularly attentive and diligent, organising a massage for my husband, a hairdresser for my two girls and giving me shopping tips in no time ., All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday that we would recomend to anyone!"

"August 2026 TLDR: Audrey the DM and Kurt from Empire Grill have Service DNA - stars of Raffles Sentosa. Came here for breakfast at the invitation of my sister and BIL who had a staycation here to celebrate their furkid's birthday. Upon arrival, James from Front Office attended to us and informed my mom and I to wait for 5 minutes while he calls for a buggy and to check on the reservation with the restaurant. Reasonable. While waiting, I called my sis who had by then arrived at the restaurant. She told me that there's a table and to make my way there. I informed James, but he kept insisting that we wait at the lobby while he checks the table situation at the restaurant. He claimed that the restaurant was running at full capacity and insisted that my mom and I remain at the lobby. Despite me telling him that my sis and BIL are at the restaurant with a table, he refused to let us go. I was appalled by his service and felt like we were being detained. As guests, we should be given options. James could have informed us that we can wait at the lobby where it's more comfortable, or proceed to the restaurant and wait while the tables are being set. If we choose to wait at the restaurant, we did so willingly and wouldn't have issues. But he shouldn't dictate what we should do. He should reflect on his service attitude, and work on his communication skills and service mindset befitting of a staff in one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. Thankfully, Audrey the DM who happened to walk by stepped in, and took charge of the situation. She brought us to the restaurant. While in the buggy, she was empathetic and apologetic with the situation. At the restaurant, she made sure that we were well-taken care of and came by several times to check in on us, which we appreciated. Kurt is the star of Empire Grill. He is witty, attentive, and hospitable. The table assigned to us was in the sun and he took the initiative to move the tables in the shade. Even though the restaurant was running at full capacity, he was all smiles as he went about attending to guests at different tables. One reason why we enjoyed our meal is because of Kurt's hospitality. Very welcoming. This is my first Raffles Sentosa experience as a non in-house guest. As a Accor+ Platinum member, initially I wanted to write off this property for a potential staycation. But because of the excellent service recovery, I will come back for a stay or to dine."
