PB hotel design editorial

Yabu Pushelberg rarely gets to build from the ground up at this scale, and their inaugural collaboration with Raffles produced something genuinely singular: Raffles Sentosa Singapore, which arrived in March 2025 as the city-state's first all-villa resort. Spread across 24 acres of tropical hillside on Sentosa Island, the property gave the Toronto-based studio total authorship — master planning, architecture, landscaping, interiors, furniture design, and art direction all flowing from a single creative intelligence. The result is a coherent world rather than a decorated building. The low-slung villas, finished in warm sand-toned render and articulated with deep vertical fins, step down the canopy edge in terraced formations that keep the surrounding trees in constant view. Inside the 62 private pool villas, that same discipline holds. Coffered ceilings in French oak absorb light rather than reflect it, and the carved hexagonal headboard panels — backlit to glow like lanterns at night — carry a geometry rooted in traditional Southeast Asian craft without reproducing it literally. The main restaurant deploys a checkerboard floor of travertine and deep green marble beneath Mathieu Lehanneur's Vertigo pendants, while hand-painted blush murals of ghostly forest trees soften the formal symmetry. At the entry forecourt, a vast circular water feature cascades at dusk against an amber sky, establishing the sensory register that everything inside then sustains — tropical without being folksy, refined without going cold.

"Love the landscapes, awesome views and spectacular lunch at the Empire Grill, excellent service by Mong and Fernando. Keep it up the good service."

"My staycation at the One-Bedroom Villa at Raffles Sentosa Singapore was a wonderful escape. The villa felt incredibly private, surrounded by lush greenery, and the private pool made it feel more like a secluded retreat than a hotel stay. The interiors were spacious, elegant, and very comfortable, with thoughtful touches throughout. Service was warm and attentive without being intrusive. Dining at Royal China was another highlight. The Cantonese food was excellent—particularly the dim sum and Peking duck, both beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Overall, it’s a luxurious and peaceful stay that combines great villas with outstanding dining."

"My wife and I had the most lovely lunch at Empire Grill yesterday. Tucked away within the Raffles Sentosa resort, the setting is wonderfully tranquil, it feels luxurious and intimate, yet remarkably, it's only 10 minutes from Singapore's CBD. You truly feel as though you've been transported to a secluded island, far from the stresses of city life. The restaurant sits right beside the hotel's quaint pool, and we were charmed to find a couple of peacocks roaming just outside, adding to that authentic resort atmosphere. We were warmly welcomed by Sienna, who escorted us to our table, and then looked after impeccably by Fernando. He attended to every need with grace, offering excellent recommendations for accompaniments to our steaks, which were grilled to absolute perfection. Our drinks were topped up throughout the afternoon, making for a perfectly relaxing experience. A lovely touch came at the end of the meal when Chef Bjoern personally came by to thank us for dining with them. It was the ideal weekday lunch escape, and we will definitely be back soon, perhaps even tying it in with a staycation."
