PB hotel design editorial

Carved from one of Bucharest's most storied financial monuments, the former Marmorosch Blank & Co bank — completed in 1923 to designs inflected with Viennese Secession and Beaux-Arts influences — the Marmorosch Bucharest, Autograph Collection opened in 2021 after a meticulous restoration that preserved the building's elaborately rusticated limestone facade, Moorish-arched entrance portal, and extraordinary interior banking hall. That hall is now the hotel's most arresting space: a double-height vault room where original brass-fronted safe deposit boxes line the walls floor to ceiling, wrought-iron balustrades trace the mezzanine gallery, and a darkly glamorous cocktail bar sits at the centre beneath a circular chandelier — the whole effect closer to a fin-de-siècle film set than a hotel amenity. The 63 guestrooms navigate the tension between the building's ceremonial weight and contemporary comfort with considerable ease. Rooms in the original structure retain herringbone oak parquet, tall arched windows, and generous ceiling heights, furnished with linen-upholstered headboards, dark marble writing desks, and globe pendant lights that echo the bar below. The darker category rooms shift to charcoal panel mouldings, deep navy velvet headboards, and bold contemporary photography — a red velvet armchair providing deliberate contrast. The restaurant deploys a saturated slate-blue palette, tufted dining chairs in cobalt velvet arranged around a circular custom rug, coffered white ceilings keeping the room from tipping into heaviness. Throughout, the design team treated the building's banking past not as backdrop but as the primary material.

"This hotel is truly magnificent and amazing! If you’re debating about whether to stay here it shouldn’t even be a debate…here is your sign to book 😉 The hotel design is fantastic with traditional accents and touches of contemporary styles that makes this hotel so distinctive. My room was a good size, quiet, clean, and the housekeeping team were so helpful. I loved the downstairs bar and the Vault as the cocktails at both locations in the hotel were delicious! The staff is wonderful, friendly, and go the extra mile to make sure my stay was great. Thank you Lorena, Anca, Claudiu and the rest of the team for your professionalism, diligence, and for being so welcoming! And if you have time to go to the spa I would highly recommend as they have amazing treatments available plus the indoor pool, sauna, and steam rooms you should absolutely try while you’re staying there. Thank you to my massage therapist, Marinela and Anna at the spa reception. You both are truly lovely and wonderful. Keep up that energy and thank you for all that you do!"

"We stayed in room 450 for one night - we landed late and didn't get to checkin to the hotel until midnight and checked out about 12 hours later, so our review is only limited during the 12 hour stay. We got upgraded to a junior suite for free as a Marriott Bonvoy member, which was great even though we only enjoyed it for half a day. The room is large but felt like it was disconnected, e.g. coffee table was near door but bed is at the other end. Barley counter or table space in between. Shower was nice though. Pro: Superb location Next to old town Great friendly staff Cons: Room felt dated Bedsheets were overused and not smooth for a 5 star hotel No on-site parking available but parking garages are nearby AC was loud"

"There’s nothing exceptional to this place, except for the location that was in the very center of the Old Town. In fact, I wouldn’t consider it a five star as the guest amenities were those shared types, with no extra charm. Our double room had a very tiny wardrobe with just one drawer, so our clothes stayed in the suitcases for 3 days. (not comfortable at all) Check in wasn’t warm, concierge was only interested in selling expensive tours. The building is very beautiful with lovely belle époque architecture but unfortunately hidden by ugly dusty and artificial trees and flowers. Breakfast was good!"

"We stayed at the Marmorosch for 5 nights in May to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary. On arrival we were given complimentary prosecco and when we got to our room there was another chilled bottle waiting with two delicious desserts. The hotel is an old bank and still keeps a lot of the features. It is located on the edge of the old town, which is full of vibrant nightlife, cafés, restaurants and bars. Our room was clean comfortable and warm, the bathroom was great with an excellent shower, two bottles of water were refreshed daily. There was a coffee machine with a selection of pods. Breakfast was the star, excellent selection of both continental & cooked food in a delightful room. The Vault bar is the crowning glory, entry through a massive vault door and into the converted strong room. Booking is necessary as it is very popular and on the cosy side. If I was to return to Bucharest I would definitely look to book this hotel again."
