"Having been lucky enough to spend the evening with a member, I finally got to see what all the fuss was about. From the moment you walk through the doors, everything is welcoming, elegant and perfectly curated. We ate in The Spence then lounged in the upstairs members room with a Negroni and had a nightcap in Lamplighters. Everything was exceptional. Edinburgh has no shortage of beautiful venues, but Gleneagles Townhouse has created something genuinely special."

"Lovely hotel, great food at breakfast and central location. Pity they then ruined it by charging a £40 tip per night for the stay. This was automatically put on the bill and we were asked to pay it. This completely undermines any sense of hospitality - they clearly expect you to pay for the staff salaries in addition to paying for your stay.a National Insurance dodge? Would never go here again as a result."

"We recently stayed at Gleneagles Townhouse and came away with mixed feelings. There is so much to love about this hotel, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the high expectations set by the Gleneagles name. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The restoration of the former bank building is stunning, with many original architectural features carefully preserved and complemented by elegant interiors and exceptional furniture throughout. Our room was gorgeous, with wonderfully comfortable beds, luxurious linens, and a lovely welcome of a warm cookie. As we were travelling with our dog, we really appreciated the thoughtful touches of a dog bed, bowls and treats, which made us all feel very welcome. The food was a real highlight. The restaurant and bar were excellent, and breakfast was genuinely outstanding—one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had. The restaurant team were consistently warm, friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the service elsewhere fell well below what we expected from a hotel at this price point. There was no introduction to the hotel’s amenities on arrival, so we only discovered features such as the rooftop bar, pop-up space and gym later in our stay. Our room had no steamer, iron or weighing scales, which are basic amenities we’d expect in a luxury hotel. On one day we specifically requested room servicing, yet the bed wasn’t made and the complimentary water wasn’t replenished. The front desk and entrance team were particularly disappointing. They lacked the warmth, attentiveness and polish you would expect from a luxury hotel. On Saturday evening at around 6:40 pm there was no one at the entrance to help us arrange a taxi, and on other occasions staff appeared to be on their phones rather than greeting or assisting guests. The arrival experience and ongoing interaction with the front-of-house team felt surprisingly mediocre. At this level of pricing, we expected the hotel to create memorable moments through exceptional service and thoughtful touches. Instead, beyond the lovely cookie on arrival and the welcome for our dog, there were very few special touches that made the stay feel truly luxurious or worth the premium price. Gleneagles Townhouse has all the ingredients to be exceptional: a spectacular building, beautiful rooms, outstanding food and excellent restaurant staff. However, until the front-of-house service matches the quality of the surroundings, it’s difficult to feel that the overall experience justifies the cost."

"We were only there for a couple nights, but really liked the hotel. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, room was spacious, clean and well done, and the amenities were really good as well - one of the nicer fitness centers for a hotel. And the location is great - it's walkable (or bikeable - bring your helmet) to almost everywhere. The upstairs roof deck was fantastic at night - sunsets were beautiful, and they had a lot of great nooks and crannies where you could take a call, work, or grab a cup of coffee during the day. My only downside, and it's not a big one, but request an upper level room - we were right on the sidewalk (hello people) and the people above us were very noisy. Minor issue though - we would definitely go back!"
