PB hotel design editorial

Before Mango House Seychelles existed, this coastal bluff above Anse Aux Poules Bleues on southwest Mahé belonged to Italian photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri — a fitting provenance for a property that carries its setting with such considered visual intelligence. Opened in July 2021 as part of Hilton's LXR Hotels & Resorts collection, the 41-key boutique resort was designed by Dubai-based architect Joe Tabet of JT+Partners to honor the spirit of that original family home, arranging low-rise pavilions in arcs that follow the land's natural contours rather than imposing geometry upon them. The granite cladding visible throughout — raw and irregular, drawn from the Seychelles' own ancient stone — connects the buildings to the enormous boulders that tumble into the turquoise water below, making the architecture feel continuous with the landscape rather than planted into it. The interiors, by dsgnTM, sustain that same commitment to place. Nalau wood appears on headboards and wall cladding, its warm grain contrasting with the herringbone stone and pale tile floors beneath. Guest rooms are anchored by four-poster beds draped in sheer white linen and oriented toward full-height sliding glass walls that frame the Indian Ocean like a painting. In the bar, rattan fan chairs, woven ceilings, and botanical murals conjure the atmosphere of a colonial planter's retreat — more Somerset Maugham than resort catalogue — while the infinity pool at the bluff's edge dissolves, at dusk, into the sea.

"I went to the Seychelles for my birthday and the first property that I stayed at was the Mango House LXR. This stay was fantastic. From before arriving to my departure, the property was extremely attentive and responsive. This is one of the best properties I have ever stayed for responsiveness. Not one time, did I reach out during my stay, that I didn't receive an actual response from an individual within 2 minutes. Kudos. I stayed at the property for five amazing days. The breakfast buffet and A la carte menu was expansive and delicious. Service was incredible at Muse. Standouts were many, however, David, Anna, Emma, Mane-Ella made our mornings, relaxed, pleasurable and a great start to the day. Housekeeping was punctual and efficient, including nightly turn down service. We ate dinner on property for four out of the five nights, with my birthday dinner being done with private dining overlooking the pool and bay. I will honestly admit this was probably the worse meal we had. My beef medallions were excellent, however, the starter and salad, was just okay. Dinner at Kokoye was EXCELLENT. The salmon teriyaki was to die for. The octopus and chicken curry at Moutya was flavorable and tasty. Rachel, Violet and especially Mariam, Front Office Manager were so kind and generous with there time and smiles each morning. The buggy guys were great. Overall, this was a memorable stay, with an excellent stay, great location, wonderful service, and delicious cuisine. THANK YOU MANGO for making my birthday memorable."
