PB hotel design editorial

Before Mango House Seychelles existed, this coastal bluff above Anse Aux Poules Bleues on southwest Mahé belonged to Italian photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri — a fitting provenance for a property that carries its setting with such considered visual intelligence. Opened in July 2021 as part of Hilton's LXR Hotels & Resorts collection, the 41-key boutique resort was designed by Dubai-based architect Joe Tabet of JT+Partners to honor the spirit of that original family home, arranging low-rise pavilions in arcs that follow the land's natural contours rather than imposing geometry upon them. The granite cladding visible throughout — raw and irregular, drawn from the Seychelles' own ancient stone — connects the buildings to the enormous boulders that tumble into the turquoise water below, making the architecture feel continuous with the landscape rather than planted into it. The interiors, by dsgnTM, sustain that same commitment to place. Nalau wood appears on headboards and wall cladding, its warm grain contrasting with the herringbone stone and pale tile floors beneath. Guest rooms are anchored by four-poster beds draped in sheer white linen and oriented toward full-height sliding glass walls that frame the Indian Ocean like a painting. In the bar, rattan fan chairs, woven ceilings, and botanical murals conjure the atmosphere of a colonial planter's retreat — more Somerset Maugham than resort catalogue — while the infinity pool at the bluff's edge dissolves, at dusk, into the sea.

About

A contemporary & intimate home, providing the backdrop to a multi-layered experience.Creative ingenuity, expansive views enveloped in the rugged nature of the Seychelles.Rooted in the South of Mahé, Mango House sits in her very own bay of Anse Aux Poules Bleues “Bay of the Blue Chickens”. All 41 of our spaces have ocean views of the bay. Mango House has an abundance of stories to be told, thanks to its original owner Gian Paolo Barbieri, world famous fashion & life photographer whose curiosity for travel led him to the Seychelles where he had built three of his homes on Mahé of which Mango House was his last.

"Mango House LXR Seychelles delivered one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had — and we travel a lot as a family. From the moment we arrived, we were met with exceptional warmth and care, and the level of service throughout our stay was simply outstanding. During our visit, one member of our family fell ill, and the staff went above and beyond in every possible way to support us. Their kindness and genuine concern made a difficult situation so much easier. A special thank you to Anna and Michael at breakfast, along with the incredible chef, who took such great care of us. Thomas at the bar kept us entertained and smiling all day long, and Boniface (“Jambo”) is truly one of the kindest souls we’ve ever met. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. The design is top-notch, with beautifully styled rooms, gorgeous pool areas, and an infinity pool overlooking the bay that is simply breathtaking. There’s also a charming small private beach to the side — magical, even if a bit tricky for swimming. We also loved the thoughtful touches like complimentary juices during the day and a lovely happy hour in the afternoons. If we had to mention one small downside, it would be that the dinner options didn’t fully live up to the price level. But honestly, that’s the only minor note in an otherwise flawless stay. This is truly a hidden gem. Don’t miss it — we will definitely be back!"

"My husband and I had one of the best stays at Mango House. The rooms were beautiful, but the real highlight was the incredible staff. Edwin at the Bar Lounge and Joshua at Moutya were truly outstanding and made our stay extra special. We highly recommend coming to this hotel and experiencing this fantastic resort."
