"Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip. That sound encapsulated our stay at the Gorgeous George. The air conditioner leaked - constantly - including spitting out ice at one point. Despite alerting management - twice - nothing was done and we were told that our usage was the problem. (As an aside, we had no problem using the *exact* same model at a previous hotel). Our floor had water stains - indicating this has been a recurring problem. The air conditioner is emblematic of a broader pattern: the design is beautiful, but when you scratch below the surface, there is a lack of attention to detail. Coffee is (gross) instant (come'on, get a nespresso). There's no gym. When I asked the hotel stuff about a gym, the receptionist mumbled something about a gym nearby. She had *0* details when I asked how much the gym charged. The bathroom sink is almost unusable - no room to store skincare, toothpaste, etc. The shower didn't drain properly - again - when management was alerted, nothing was done. The hotel gets two stars for its design and food (breakfast is good!). Otherwise, our stay was a disappointment."

"I spent a night at this charming, quirky hotel in Cape Town's CBD at the start of a brief business trip. I am a demanding guest/diner/customer easily unimpressed by poor standards. GG won me over on every front. I booked a one-bed room/suite, the higher of the two main categories, and it was delightful. A very comfy bed, good toiletries, a lovely dressing gown, good wifi - everything I could want, and very reasonably priced. The staff are all superb. In an age where many public-facing staff in the hospitality world are uninterested, the staff at GG stand out for their genuine care for their guests, and their charming sense of welcome and help. Breakfast was also superb, and I have separately reviewed the 6th floor restaurant, in which I had both lunch and dinner (making three out of three meals in a less than 24-hour period). Most tourists head for the Waterfront - that's their loss. This place is a gem. And for those who do not know Cape Town, let me stress it is in an area that is utterly safe and a delight to explore."

"Rooms are large and modern with an updated bathroom. Large walk in shower with great water pressure. Area has lots of restaurants within walking distance and I felt safe with my two teenage daughters walking around at night. Restaurant:bar on the 6th floor is good for breakfast and the bar drinks were delicious. Customer service was excellent throughout our whole stay. I would recommend to anyone coming to Cape Town."
