PB hotel design editorial

Directly across Victoria Road from the white sand of Camps Bay beach, with the Twelve Apostles range rising sharply behind it, a five-storey building completed by Greg Scott of Scott and Partners in 2025 sets a new architectural pitch for Cape Town's most scenic coastal strip. Morea House, Autograph Collection brings 90 rooms to this address in a facade that layers travertine-clad volumes at street level with timber brise-soleil screens above, the warm grain of the woodwork softening what could easily have been an imposing street presence. The massing steps back in a way that draws Table Mountain into almost every upward sightline, and the pool terrace, tiled in deep cobalt blue and framed by Canary Island palms, positions the Atlantic as a continuous backdrop. Inside, Cape Town-based interior architect Tristan du Plessis has worked with timber, stone, and bronze across a palette that stays warm without straining for drama. Guest rooms show bleached oak floors, bouclé armchairs, and handwoven textile headboards that sit comfortably alongside the turquoise sea filling the floor-to-ceiling windows. The restaurant is the interior's most theatrical moment: curved banquette seating in botanical-print fabric wraps around dark verde marble-topped tables on spool-turned legs, a draped fabric ceiling rippling overhead in soft folds that carry the feeling of a Mediterranean sail canopy. It is an arrival point for the city's dining scene as much as for hotel guests, and it earns that ambition.

"This newly opened fine dining restaurant in a hotel on the beachfront of Camps Bay is exquisite in every aspect - The 2 ladies welcoming guests are efficient and will exhaust all avenues to place guests at their preferred dining area - Manager Chad clearly leads from the front and left a lasting impression - A must visit when in Cape Town and worthy of being considered a 1st choice for Camps Bay - The menu is varied and so too the wine lists - The food was great and the view over the bay was spectacular - The property is a short distance away from the more "noisy area" where most of the other restaurants are that attracts mainly the younger generation - Much appreciation for the Restaurant Manager, Fernando who exposed us to outstanding service - Will certainly return."

"Great location with beautiful views across the sea. We had a large suite which was beautiful with gorgeous bathroom. Staff were all extremely friendly. Breakfast was delicious and service was prompt. Pool area small but we were so busy didn’t have time to use it. Enjoyed drinks in bar but lots of restaurants within walking distance. Enjoyed the Camps Bay Area and would come back. Used Uber regularly which were quick and efficient and open top bus stops just across the road."

"Visited Morea House with my family for almost a week, and we didn’t want to leave! Our stay at Morea House was nothing short of extraordinary. For real - I found myself pausing multiple times a day just to take in the views! Golden-hour cocktails by the pool were a highlight of the day,..But oh, I have so many highlights to share, but need to keep it within TripAdvisor limits so lets start with the Rooms – as a family of five we had multiple rooms – and all of them were spacious, very clean and got everything we needed. We didn’t experience any noise at night at all, even as the street is right outside if you choose a an ocean view. So, no undisturbed sleep, which is very important for me. Throughout our stay, every staff member, from front desk to pool lounge, were always happy to help and made our stay feel effortless and special. Special shoutout to the SPA! The spa added a whole other layer of delight to our days, Thank you Shannon :) Not to forget to mention - the food is great! The menu on the pool terrace is sooo good, and with a great variety, which was appreciated as we had all our lunches there. And the OMRI restaurant offers Lebanese with a twist. The dining experience there was amazing and worth its own review... Overall - If you’re looking for a place in Cape Town that combines wonderful views, beautiful interiors, incredible food, and a team that truly cares, Morea House is it. Thank you, Morea House, for an unforgettable experience. We are already planning to come back."

"Lots of hype and nothing to back it up. Just spent 2 nights here before heading home to London. First impressions not great and one would think a new hotel, at the over priced top end of the market would be doing everything to make guests, especially those loyal to Marriott, feel valued, welcomed and delivering the highest levels of service and cleanliness. That’s not the case and certainly not what we experienced. Being a loyal Marriott fan for over 16 years and spending over 160 nights last year alone in Marriott hotels, I feel well placed to offer my review.
From the start the welcome at reception was half hearted. Papi was not helpful at all despite being the so called Front of House Manager.
Ambassador Elite status clearly means nothing (or no one has been trained on these important aspects) and no one interested in honouring despite much better rooms being available our entire stay and hotel clearly not at high occupancy.
Bad smell in room when we arrived from drains in shower - had to remove metal grating and clean. Silly sensor lights in the bathroom are totally impractical as they go off within seconds of you standing still or sitting down and don’t come on so easily when you need. I’m all for doing my bit for the environment but sensor lights in the bathroom? Surely sensor lights in corridors and public areas makes much more sense, offers bigger savings and doesn’t mean huge areas are left lit up 24/7 when there is no need?
Very noisy first floor rooms / beach facing so be aware as overlooking main road. There was a loud banging sound until around 2am resonating through the hotel - sounded like maintenance works somewhere near by but very noisy every 30 seconds or so and not conducive to a good nights sleep.
Rooms small and not particularly comfortable and some designer has tried too hard and failed badly.
Great place for Instagrammers not for people looking for a nice relaxing hotel.
Staff generally very nice and helpful especially those around pool. Pool food was good overall. Pool was absolutely filthy with a thin scum line around the edge and dangerously slippy, slimy steps which led to me slipping badly when entering the pool. Luckily I steadied myself just in time otherwise I would have easily cracked my head open! Incident witnessed by pool staff who came to check on me but really not the point. Was good to see maintenance then spend 2 hours cleaning the pool but really not what I would expect from a so called brand new 5 star hotel.
90 rooms but only 10 sun loungers around the small pool - clearly not thought through particularly.
Lot of hype and not a lot of anything to back it up.
Highly over priced considering other local options.
Not impressed and a lot of work to do."
