PB hotel design editorial

At the heart of Gangnam, Seoul's most commercially pressurized district, a bronze-toned tower rising above the COEX complex has anchored the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas as one of the quarter's most legible landmarks since the property opened in 1988. The facade's warm-glazed curtain wall, visible in the aerial images catching the last ember light of a Seoul dusk, gives the building a presence distinct from the cooler glass skins of its neighbors — the tower carrying the feeling of a considered civic gesture rather than speculative office construction. The dramatic slot opening carved into the lower podium, lit from within and framing a lone figure at street level, underscores the architectural ambition at work in the base. Inside, the interiors navigate a tension that defines much of Seoul's top-tier hospitality: holding international luxury conventions in productive dialogue with Korean spatial sensibility. The guestrooms show this clearly — floor-to-ceiling glazing framing panoramic city views, with fluted headboard panels, brass-armed sputnik chandeliers, and deep cobalt bench seats giving the suites a tailored mid-century register. The Chinese restaurant takes a more formal approach, with rippling plaster ceiling forms, travertine columns, blue-patterned carpet, and blue-and-white porcelain centerpieces nodding to classical East Asian dining culture. Most quietly persuasive is the Japanese restaurant garden, where granite boulders, Japanese maple, and horizontal timber screens achieve an atmosphere of deliberate stillness — an unlikely counterpoint to the density pressing in from every direction outside.

"We spent three nights at the wonderful InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas and we can highly recommend this hotel. The hotel is a calm oasis in a large and busy city and it is located directly above an MRT station which made accessing anywhere in the city easy. We were upgraded to a lovely suite and had access to one of the nicest club lounges we have ever been privileged to visit. The services offered by both the hotel itself and the lounge, in particular, were exemplary. We highly recommend this outstanding property and would gladly return here in the future."

"I had a fantastic stay at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas. The hotel is elegant, extremely well maintained, and the staff were professional, friendly, and very attentive from check-in to check-out. The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, with a great view over Coex Seoul. The breakfast buffet was outstanding with a wide variety of high-quality international and Korean options. The location in Seoul is perfect, with direct access to shopping, restaurants, and the bus station. Highly recommended — I would definitely stay here again."

"AS IHG members we typically seek an Intercontinental when we travel. This property was a winner. It has a gracefulness, probably because of the culture of the team and people of Korea, and its location. It is attached to the COEX mall and iconic library. It seemed to be smack in the middle of a major hub of the Seoul and more development happening across from us during our stay. It was convenient to have the mall and food court adjacent to us along with metro access. The hotel itself is inside and major business building so the check in was a bit cold and away from the main lobby so you didn't get that wow factor right away. As you walk towards the elevator the stunning lobby appears and that wow factor happened, really beautiful. The rooms were spacious, well appointed and high tech and we enjoyed the separate sitting area. One of the reasons we cam to Korea was to observe the facial esthetics community so a nice touch was a facial mask placed bed side every evening during our stay. We also add the lounge access to our rooms and it is always well worth it. The lounge was pleasant and the team were very helpful. What was really special was the complimentary fitness center and spa privileges. It was a private sports club so it was huge and elegant with world class facilities and pool, cafe services and even a golf simulator. I really enjoyed the jacuzzi with cold plunge and sea salt scrub. Again, I highly recommend the club access for these benefits. As far as dining we typically do breakfast to fuel up and enjoy the city for other dining. The breakfast facility was also elegant, plentiful and delicious. Just about every option is available to hotel guests, included with club access. The club lounge also has a mini version for breakfast if you don't like the bigger crowd. The club lounge also offers tea time and happy hour with canopies. We had a wonderful stay and this property is highly recommended."
