PB hotel design editorial

Hongdae's energy — the art school crowds, the street music, the loose creative friction that distinguishes this district from Seoul's more corporate quarters — called for a hotel that could engage rather than merely shelter. RYSE Autograph Collection, which opened in 2018 within a sharp-edged dark-panelled tower on Yanghwa-ro, answered that brief through a collaboration with London-based Tom Dixon's Design Research Studio, whose involvement gave the interiors a distinctly Anglo-industrial sensibility that plays in productive tension against its Korean context. The glazed street-level lobby, visible in the images as a warmly lit volume of stacked stone, globe pendants, and loose seating clusters, signals a deliberate permeability — an invitation extended to the neighbourhood rather than a barrier erected against it. Inside, the property's 272 rooms carry copper-finish reading lamps, channelled velvet headboards, and dark-stained oak floors, while the suites layer in orange globe pendants and blue-tiled accent walls that track Dixon's signature chromatic confidence. The bar is the most theatrically resolved space: a walnut back-bar lined with amber pendants, cobalt velvet stools by Gubi, and a lounge seating area deploying fuchsia poufs and teal curved sofas in combinations that feel borrowed from a well-edited mid-century club. The restaurant ground level introduces polished concrete floors, perforated metal screening panels, and glazed subway tile — a harder material register that anchors the building's more exuberant upper floors.

"When I arrived at this hotel for my 3-night stay, I did not know what to expect aside from its enviable location right next to the hip Hongdae walking street. Despite being a Titanium member with Marriott Bonvoy, I felt a bit overwhelmed and out-of-place by the “cool vibe” and eclectic uniform on the young staff team. However, my first impression melted away the moment the moment I realised how warm and friendly everyone was! My room was a junior suite which even had a view of the Han River beyond. The room was spacious, stylish, quiet and extremely comfortable. Despite being quite full in December, I never saw other guests on the floor. There was a small matter with housekeeping and I was impressed at the speed of recovery. Mia from front desk was responsible for giving a room that matched my requests. She was kind, warm and welcoming. Nothing seemed to bother her. Such a pleasure! Breakfast was lovely and featured international and Korean fare. Restaurant manager (I think Kimmy, sorry if I remembered her name wrongly!) was jovial and professional. She even remembered my seat preference! I had accidentally locked jammed the room safe and needed help to reopen it. Katherine came swiftly and settled the problem quickly. When I thanked her, she very warmly replied “it is no problem. It is my job to assist”. The kindness and sincerity was genuine and this is attitude was clear throughout the hotel. She even gave me an extra Korean face mask as a treat! On top of its convenient location (I got to walk around and explore Hongdae and the airport bus limousine stop is just 50 meters from the hotel), this stylish hotel with amazing staff is simply perfect!"

"First time North American visitors to Seoul. Appreciated hotel quality but would come back for location alone. Stayed in two rooms as a family of 4 ( not connecting). Was only in Seoul for 56 hours as transiting from Canada to Bali. However the hotel turned out to have a perfect location, as Hongdae is much closer to Airport then Other areas and perfect for a quick explore. - took bus 6002 to hotel. Bus was easy and inexpensive and stopped almost in front of hotel ($16000kw pp , so about $60 CAD for our family as compared to the $140 uber was going to charge on a busy Saturday night). Easy to spot hotel from street with large “Ryse” lettering. - Lobby on 3 floor but easy to sort out. - Rooms well sized, lovely amenities. Seemed a little dark ( hallways) but modern. -arrived late Saturday and just to the side of the hotel at the back there is a great pizza place ( fantastic when jet lagged kids just want a slice of something familiar and bed). - had coffee each morning at bluebottle. Fancy, pricey, but worked well. - Did not eat at Char restaurant , as too many great options nearby - Olive young is around the corner, and fun night market/ vendors just up the road. Teen girls loved this. - Got Beauty treatments at Forena Clinic 500m away from hotel. Very foreigner friendly - prebooking required. - Large pharmacy near hotel had great selection of skin care, great prices and English speaking. - Had some of the best Korean Chicken and dumplings, can’t recall names but so many choices. - Felt very safe. Enjoyed evening street performances. - No issues with currency as used Wise card. Overall would return to hotel for any short trip. Great spot for an intro to Seoul, especially in short on time. Did uber back to ICN as was only $60 to get back to airport. -"

"Had a 1.5 weeks stay in the family room that comes with 2 queen beds. Check In was fast, however the room was not ready until afternoon. When the room was ready, the luggages were already inside the room. It was a nice surprise. Room was big enough for 4 pax with a sizable sofa and coffee table, which was a plus. We can work there, eat there. Room was comfortable, heated. Even the toilet bowl was heated. Every staff member in the hotel were friendly and helpful. Overall it was a good experience."

"We stayed at the Ryse in Seoul for three nights on our recent trip to South Korea, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The Ryse is a stylish and comfortable hotel in a cool part of the city, well located for shops, restaurants, and bars. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and well decorated. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We really enjoyed the breakfasts, which were part of our package, and we used the Coffee Shop in the lobby of the hotel a couple of times, which was quite handy. We also popped up to the rooftop bar and had a look at the terrace overlooking the city, which looks like it’d be a nice place to hang out in the Summer. In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay at Ryse, it’s a comfortable and stylish place, in a terrific location."
